"I write to you from a place, 90 miles from Monticello, near the New London of this state, which I visit three or four times a year. I stay from a fortnight to a month at a time." -Thomas Jefferson   I live three miles from Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson's summer retreat located in Forest, Virginia. This is one of my favorite local destinations and it will be re-opening to the public April 1, 2009.  The Poplar Forest estate originally consisted of over 4800 acres. Today, there are 50 remaining acres and the subdivision of Poplar Forest and the Poplar Forest Golf Course surround the property. The property is noted on land records as far back as 1745. Construction on the octagonal shaped home wasn't started until 1806. You'll notice many similarities to Monticello though Poplar Forest is...

Lucky Me- Mom had a gift certificate to Lil Cucci's and she took me there for lunch. I love this Italian Restaurant in Forest, Virginia. Lil’ Cucci’s is owned by Maurizio and Shari Cucci and has a great family atmosphere. Not only are you greeted by Maurizio when you enter the restaurant, he calls you by name. Located in the Forest Square Shopping Center, Lil Cucci's does a brisk business so you may have to wait for a seat but it's worth it. The food is awesome- we had the Lil Cucci's Special Calzone which was stuffed with pepperoni, peppers, onions, cheese and a whole lot of yum. Lil’ Cucci’s offers great pizza’s (my favorite is the veggie), appetizers, calzones, salads; dinners including spaghetti, lasagna, chicken & eggplant parmigiana; cheesecake & cannoli and a children’s menu. When you take a new listing, your goal is to sell that home. You market, you show, you hope for an offer to come in. The longer the home is listed, the more you learn about the seller, their hopes and dreams, their fears. If your fortunate, the time comes when an offer comes in and is accepted. What you don't always expect is to become friends with the seller.    Today we closed.    My clients have moved on to an exciting new phase in their lives having become grandparents just this month. Another family is thrilled with their new home and are busy moving in and making plans. It was a pleasure to represent the sellers and I wish them well. But, I will miss my friends.    Debbie Malone, Realtor ® RE/MAX 1st Olympic Malone1981@ol.com (434) 546-0369
