A recent Washington Post article began with the words "In the midst of the worst real estate market in years..." and continued on to indicate that the largest privately owned real estate firm in the country had just named a new president and chief operating officer to lead that company through "these difficult economic times."   While I acknowledge that the economy poses some real challenges for a lot of us, I would argue that the real estate market is actually showing signs of improvement in Northern Virginia.       August sales statistics indicate that while the average sales price has dropped since last year, the number of homes sold has increased by 6 percent over 2007 (1,812 homes sold in 2008 versus 1,713 in 2007), and the inventory of homes for sale has been declining steadi...

As an Estate Planning and Probate Attorney I handle many cases a year involved in litigation where real estate is involved.  Too often individuals try to prepare a Last Will without an attorney, or fail to prepare a Last Will, resulting in substantally more expense to the ones they love.  Utlimately, this costs the beneficiaries (this is the people they love such as a spouse, children, parents) a lot more then they would have spent for an attorney to draft the Will, and supervise the Will signing.  For example, in Virginia if you do not have a Will the Adminitrator (also referred to as Executor  - this is the person in charge of your property after you die) does not have the authority to sell real estate.  Imagine the situation where a spouse, and children from different marriages all o...

I graduated in 1988 from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia.  I was Chris Ann Balulis (pronounced Ba-LOO-less) in those days.  I wasn't even thinking about our twenty year high school reunion.  But there it was, in my mail....a solicitation-looking postcard advertising the 20th reunion.  I almsot through it out because I thought it was some lame direct mail piece to help you find old classmates. If you are a member of the Fairfax High School Class of 1988, and didn't receive your postcard invitation, the information for the event is below.   Fairfax High Class of 1988 20 Year Reunion Saturday, October 11, 2008 Hilton Old Town Alexandria-Alexandria Virginia Reunion Starts 5:30pm $89 per person before Sept 12th at 5pm. $99 per person after. When is the last time you thought about your dryer vent? Few people realize the lint from your clothes ends up not only in the lint trap but also flows into the dryer vent where it accumulates over time. Highly combustible lint combined with excessive temperatures from the dryer is a recipe for a fire.   Dryer fires usually start beneath the dryer when the motor overheats. Overheating is caused by a build-up of lint in the duct that increases the drying time and blocks the flow of air. Other contributing conditions may include lint inside the dryer, a missing or damaged lint screen, an excessively long vent, non-code vent material (plastic, vinyl and non-rated foil) that may kink or stop airflow, or a bird's nest or other debris blocking the vent.   The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Comm...

Recently my team and I satisfied another buyer in the Fairfax Virginia area. They even provided a testimonial and a referral of a close friend within weeks of our working together. The search process lasted a little over a day when this gem surfaced. It met their precise criteria and in addition was meticulously maintained offering move in condition to my buyers. They instantly fell in love. Fortunately the stars were aligned and the seller was happy to negotiate a lower price and coordinate move dates to accommodate my buyers current lease demands. We settled in a few short week with a rent back. Today the new owners couldn't be happier!         Whether youre looking for townhouses or single family home or a fee simple condominium we can help.
