Northern Virginia is dotted with churches that hold memories of the United States Civil War that raged on their property and outside their doors.  The Jerusalem Baptist Church in Fairfax Station is one of those churches. All I Wanted Was an Ice Cream Sundae?  Is That So Hard? It was near one-hundred degrees in Northern Virginia today, but felt much worse with the heat index.  Can't tell you what exactly.  I'm pretty sure my brain melted at the door step of my 10:30am appointment in Bristow.  Even my car was little comfort with the A/C blasting over me.  So after a long morning/early afternoon in the car I made a melted brain decision.  ICE CREAM FOR LUNCH.  It's not every day that I get to pass a Friendly ice cream parlor in my travels.  Seems to me there are only two in the tri-county area.  So since my travels took me past Burke, it was time for an ice cold, sweet lunch. After checking in on my listing at the Forest at South Run today I decided to make a quick stop at Burke Lake Park.  If you follow my blog it's one of my favorite spots when there is free time in my schedule to walk the 4.7 mile trail or a quck out and back.Today I was stopped in my tracks when I realized that the Cherry Trees in the park were almost in full bloom..  It's FEBRUARY folks.  Normally in Northern Virgina at this time of year we are still bundled up in our down jackets or shoveling snow.This year the National Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for March 20 – April 27, 2012.  Hope the blooms on the trees at the Tidal Basin don't reach full bloom weeks before then.     02/27/2012

Fortunately my day did not end with a Ferrari crashing through the garage window but I admit I did play hooky most of the day.  In my case it was off to Burke Lake Park. Burke Lake Park is located just off of Route 123 and a few miles from the City of Fairfax. With over 850 acres including a 220 acre lake there is plenty for everyone to enjoy. For the walkers, joggers and bikers the 5 mile dirt loop around the lake is a great way to take in all of the vistas. For the youngsters the miniature train ride chugging along at 10 MPH is a hoot. Want to get in a round of golf? You can do that too at the 18 hole Par 3 course. Residents of Burke VA have a game they like to play.  It's called name everything with the word “Burke” in it.  Between streets, shopping centers and parks you could easily come up with a 100 locations with the name Burke.  Considering Silas Burke’s role in the development of the area it makes sense. What may be surprising to many is that there were a number of families and are homes in the area that predate the landmark Silas Burke house built in 1824.  One of those homes is Kings Grant. Kings Grant was built on 21 acres of the original Ravensworth Estate.  Ravensworth Estates encompassed 24,000 acres purchased in 1685 by Col.
