Thankful Thursdays: A burst of sunshine! Overcast skies with opaque cloud play create a monotone atmosphere until a small amount of sun begins to burst through lighting up the blue! Everything that it touches comes alive while yearning for more of its concentrated efforts. As I rounded the volcano right before getting home in Veyo, Utah, this was a gift and wanted to share it with all of you! Thankful for small bursts of sunshine this day!

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Rose colored glasses not necessary! After a day of work, I was in 'go home' mode and as I crested the hill, the entire countryside before me was immersed in a pink glow. The snow on the hills and volcanoes took on the same bright hue, this was definitely the 'highlight' of the day! Veyo is known for its numerous cinder cones and lava flows that litter the landscape. Also home to the world famous Veyo Pool and Crawdad Canyon, Rock Climbing Park.

We have much to be grateful for here in sunny southern Utah and love to take advantage of the exceptional weather by planting an annual garden. With over 40 varieties of fruits and vegetables to choose from, we will have a plentiful harvest throughout the summer and well into the fall. Gardening has been an enjoyable past time of ours and while there is a lot of work involved to prepare the area, it is now very low maintenance with auto-timers for accurate, no-waste watering. Weed barrier and gravel prevents an over abundant amount of weeds in the commmon areas. We are looking forward to canning the tomatoes, eating fresh corn and using the herbs in everyday cooking. We have much to be grateful for indeed! This is the garden shortly after it was planted: http://activerain.com/blogsview...

When spotting an interesting example of unusual architecture while driving, I usually pull over (if time allows), grabbing my camera to capture the shot. This old barn and animal pen in Veyo, Utah has weathered many seasons but still seems determined to stand tall even though it leans way to the left! Perhaps it leans because of the wind or just that it's getting tired...maybe a little of both. It would've been great to see it alive and utilized in better times; Hay stacked high, pigs in the pens, horses in the corral, chickens clucking instead in a state of disrepair, just sitting alone waiting for its time to go.

The 32nd Annual St. George Marathon is just a little over a week away! On October 3rd, 2009, approximately 7,200 participants will be at the starting line at 6:45 a.m. (wheelchairs at 6:40) with eager energy and dreams of winning or placing, or for some, just crossing over the finish line. The first St. George Marathon was held in November 1977 by a man named Sherm Miller who worked for the Parks & Recreation Department of St. George City. A marathon runner himself who participated in the Deseret News Marathon in Salt Lake City came up with the idea of hosting a marathon in St. George. The starting line is in Central, Utah and the finish line is at Vernon Worthen Park in St. George. He had 58 participants that year and 38 finished (57 runners and one wheelchair racer) 38 people finish...

The Power of Flowers! More Southern Utah Flowers! Enjoy! I saw these daisies on the side of the highway and had to turn around to take a picture. They really are vibrant!  This Lilly is in our flower garden at home. They only last a few days and close at night and open again in the daylight. I had to take its picture!  These yellow lillies are used often in residential landscaped areas in southern Utah and truly add a splash of color! I love flowers and often stop my car and pull over in order to take a shot of what nature offers us everyday! I hope you enjoy!>>>0<07/02/2009
