"Humble Apple Pie" During the course of showing homes in outlying areas to a potential buyer couple, they marked one off the list. In the haste to move on to another residence, I failed to call and cancel that showing appointment. Imagine my surprise when getting a phone from the owner of the home, giving it to me straight about she got up at 6:00 am to clean the house and get it ready. How there were no foot marks in her carpet... She was highly upset. I apologized but she would have none of it and hung up on me! I called her back, explaining the circumstances and finally she calmed down enough to have a conversation and we rang off. Still unsettled by my negligence, the next day, I went to Veyo Pies and ordered an Old Fashioned Apple Crumb Pie and hand delivered it to her door. We had...

A smart gobbler! While on the way to work, I looked to the side of the road and couldn't believe my eyes. A wild turkey was a mere foot away from Hiway 18. Upon further inspection, there was a sign around his neck so as I creeped closer at a slow rate of speed, the message became clearer. It said...  A smart gobbler that one is. Happy Thanksgiving all! ............................................................... For information on yearly activities and the sunny southern Utah area, contact me. Once you visit, you may decide to stay and I can definitely help with that because Wanda Can! A portion of every successful real estate transaction goes to Bed 'n' Biscuits to help fund Switchpoint, a local homeless shelter.

I like this post!  The Praying Mantis is a gardener's best natural ally and pest control. Though not often seen, they camouflage themselves to blend in with the natural surroundings. This little guy has started to turn the same color as the brown backdrop to be ever more elusive in capturing prey. He really did like this post! Happy day all! .............................................................. Know anyone thinking about moving to Washington City, Utah? Questions about the southern Utah area or any Washington County, Utah homes for sale? Please contact me at 435.632.9374 or wanda@buynsellutah.com. This ladybug likes my post. Though cute with their bright red and polka dot capes, Ladybugs are extremely aggressive, possessing a voracious appetite for aphids. They are a welcome sight, landing among the greenery before setting off to work.  Did you know that the Praying Mantis was the very first Yoga Master, able to strike a pose at any angle, even upside down for infinite amounts of time? So stealthy, they often go unnoticed by the human eye and unsuspecting prey.  Honey Bees not only ensure pollination takes place, they also carry pollen back to the hive for food reserves as a future means of survival. Watching them 'dance' among the blooms is quite captivating!  Some of nature's creatures work side-by-side independently, playing a large role in the healthy balance in a garden, the...

Bedazzled!  Seasonal rains drenched every available surface in southern Utah before journeying on, leaving many plants with beads of moisture atop and within their foliage. Some were adorned with ornamental-like spheres that reflected flashes of light as they sparkled in the sunlight. This leaf cluster appeared to be cradling a most precious gem inside its tender centerfolds. You may even say, it was bedazzled! Happy Sunday all.

Steve the Snowman makes another surprise visit to Veyo, Utah!     Sure enough, another arctic cold front blew into the area, bringing Steve the Snowman back for another quick visit. He had no time for conversation (again) but made his presence known in the swirling snowfall and freezing temperatures. Good thing I had my camera handy to snap a candid shot!   I do hope he makes it back to his destination safe and sound (again)! And to all of you experiencing adverse weather conditions, safe travels to you as well. I'm taking a Snow Day...Happy Monday!

Maximum saturation. Most refreshing!     As another seasonal Spring shower made it's way across the vast southern Utah skies, every available surface, crag and crevice became saturated.  I could almost hear this flower praise the late afternoon squall as it left the premises, "Hurry on back now, ya hear?"    No trespassing here, just a welcome presence, however fleeting! Happy Sunday all!

If I showed you my back side, would you show me yours? Well, here it is! In living color. Full on exposure even! This is what I see when I look out my back door, a view that changes with the seasons but is timeless and teeming with local wildlife such as: roadrunners, cottontails and hummingbirds. Where I came face-to-face with a coyote for the first time, where we spend time in our garden, a place our boys played for endless hours at a time, on the swing set, transitioning onto the trampoline. Racing laps around the bike track well into the sunset on many occasions. It still holds that special feel and appeal that brought us here so very many years ago and beckons us forward together. Ahhh! The best of times are yet to be experienced here. Now that I have shown you mine. Show me yours!

Can you see me now? Tuxedo, our kitten plays to extremes, frantically running here and there, grabbing the hand towel hanging in the fridge handle, jumping into the tub and out, through all the chairs around the table in the dining room, scritching the scratch post, batting the tweeting birdy on the pole toy, grabbing the shoes strings on dad's work shoes, up into the window behind the shades to play hide-n-seek! Whew! Then into my lap for a cat nap to gather strength up for another round. Here we go! Happy Sunday all, a nap may be order today for me as well to get ready for the busy week ahead. How about you?

Nerdin Gardens 2013: The beginning of a promising growing season.       Weeds are pulled, the raised beds are tilled, water systems ready to be placed and seeds to be sown for another successful garden. The soil, after many previous seasons is a rich combination of nutrients, absolutely perfect to receive nature's gifts.     It may not look like much right now but in a few weeks, this area will come to life with an assortment of fruits and vegetables that will carry us through the summer months, well into fall and winter.     The arbor has been tightened to withstand the weight of the grape and muscedine vines as they begin to green up anticipating the sweet clusters they will bear.     The herb garden has taken off without help and the asparagus has come and gone...mmm-mmm! Fresh rosem...

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Steve the Snowman visits Veyo!   After a cold front blew through the area, leaving behind frigid temperatures and 7 inches of snow, we received a visit from a most unexpected guest, Steve the Snowman! He usually resides in northern Utah where snow and freezing weather are a norm this time of year.   He moved ever so swiftly, almost a blur and I was oh so lucky to catch a glimpse, much less a photograph. Call me lucky to be at the right place at the right time! I hope he made it home safely, last I heard the Utah Highway Patrol was looking for him...hmmm...wonder WHAT HE DID?   Happy Sunday all!

Speechless Sunday (almost!): It was so cold in Veyo... How cold was it, you ask? It was so cold that even Frosty the Snowman caught a cold and his nose was running nonstop! That's how cold it was! He could have used a kleenex or two in my opinion... ewwww! An unexpected cold front came in adding a thick blanket of snow in our area of southern Utah. It was pretty for a day and my mood brightened when it disappeared, giving way to warmer temperatures.  Happy Sunday all!

Nerdin Gardens Revisited August 2012 ~ Much to be thankful for! Zucchini, crook neck squash, lettuce and cucumbers galore as we pick daily from the garden. Summer fresh salads have been an almost daily addition to our meals.  The sunflowers standing high above all else resemble sentries standing at attention looking about. Their bright faces bring nature's light into the darkest corners of every space. The basil, oregano, thyme, onion chives, garlic, sage, chili peppers, okra, cabbage, strawberries, asparagus, have all made their way into our cooking or meal preparation. The artichokes were tender and also decorative when their pods boasted bright purple spiky do's! Green beans, snow peas, red potatoes, eggplant, bell peppers and purple cabbage have been the highlight of this above grou...

Nerdin Gardens Revisited July 2012 ~ Much to be thankful for!  We are in full swing of our growing season here in sunny southern Utah  and as some of you know, we plant over 40 varieties of fruits and vegetables.  The zucchini, crook neck squash, green beans, snow peas, peppers, artichokes and strawberries are coming on quickly now!   We have had a fair share of sweet-n-spicy radishes and turnips will be put in their place.   We have pulled more than 40 artichokes, grilling some and giving some away to family and friends.  This year Mike has planted a variety of Sunflowers who resemble sentries, standing guard over most of the crop. They are fast growing and their stalks are thick and healthy.  The tomatoes, carrots, beets, onions, garlic are starting to come on and we will have fresh v...

Nerdin Gardens 2012: How does your garden grow?   As we prepare the soil for another growing season, we give hope to an abundance of food once again. I have been blessed with a husband who has a green thumb and has the ability to create beautiful spaces with plants, bushes and trees.  We also realize the importance of planting the seeds with care, nurturing the tender plants, weeding to create room to grow and feeding them nutrients they need to eventually put food on our table.  Our list of fruits and vegetables is long and we enjoy every single one of them once they ripen well through the fall months.  Fresh rosemary, thyme, sage, onion chives, garlic, parsley, basil and oregano are just a few steps and a pinch away.  We love the nutritional value, money savings and of course, a home ...

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Spring interrupted. Tomatoes planted, decorative pots overflowing with blooms and along comes a cold front that laid down several inches of unexpected powder. It is a good thing my husband watches the news as he went out prior to the inclement weather and covered the exposed plant material. We shall see if his efforts worked once it melts. Hoping for the best. Happy Sunday to you all!
