Nerdin Gardens: Hang In There!  My husband creates these beautiful hanging baskets that are sporadically placed around the yard to create a pop of color in places that need it most. They remind me of a loved ones words. I remember back when my little sister had small cell carcinoma, a fast growing cancer that ravaged her physical body but had yet to destroy that beautiful, positive mind. I'd call and ask how she was feeling and the response most days was, "Oh, I'm hanging in there." It was an open, honest conversation, intentionally sincere, not just filler for chatting's sake. She didn't want to burden anyone with a litany of complaints, instead remaining ever upbeat, hopeful. In my heart, I prayed every day that she would 'hang in there' and beat that horrendous disease. During her la...

Nerdin Gardens: Busy bees better be.  Awesome blossoms have come alive again in the St. George, Utah area! Just as I was admiring these vibrant orange Marigolds, a bumble bee came floating by, touching down ever so lightly. Cooler, fall evenings create a sense of urgency for nature's creatures as they intently forage during the day. Soon, they will have a large cache of stored food for the winter months at the nest. Inspiration is everywhere when we pay attention to our surroundings. For those looking to purchase a home in southern Utah, please contact me. I will find YOU a soft place to land as well! Bumble bees work year 'round, much like real estate professionals who feel the need to succeed. Happy Monday all! .................................................................. Questio...

Nerdin Gardens: 50 Shades of Greenery This is a re-do of a past post. Now that the growing season is at an end, I am reminiscing the ways a garden affects the senses. Hope you enjoy it the second time around as much as I did writing it!    At the moment the titillating is initiated...er, I mean, the tilling starts, a new growing season begins. Nature bestows harmonious growth with lush endowments of plant life.  Sensory stimulation sets about the sight-line, reaching out to tender buds unto plant maturation, in-taking, interpreting integrated and independent sensory stimuli simultaneously. Home gardening ignites the senses through:   Touch:  Dark, fertile loam held in ones grasp, gently massaged through to the the fingertips, eager to accept sowed seeds, anticipating growth.    Smell: I...

Nerdin Gardens: Making Agro Great Again  Home gardening has been making a strong comeback across the country. People want to experience results, often enjoying fresh fruits and vegetables more-so, when their efforts produce them. From seed to sprout to maturity to table, the growing excitement is palpable on a daily basis! Trial and error plays an important role as well. Location of plant material can make or break the cycle. Adapting and adjusting serves a gardener well, as well as self-education. Reading, learning and implementing from reliable sources can create successful outcomes more often than not. Patio gardening is an option for those who lack an expansive, in-ground scenario. We have been successful with planting lemon, lime, grapefruit and kumquat trees in large clay pots. In...

Nerdin Gardens: A Reservoir of Wealth  Living creatures enjoy fortuitous means within the perimeters of a garden. This zucchini bloom became a catch basin for later use after a good downpour occurred.  Nourishment is a non-issue as nature provides sustenance and concerted harmony for all. Of course, some become prey and some continue to pray, achieving daily goals. Abundant resources are plentiful and Nerdin Gardens certainly offers accommodations to all who visit and remain. We welcome all comers possessing good intentions. No reservations needed!  Looking for a top producing Realtor that will go to work for you? Nerdin Gardens: Simple Scentual Pleasures  Ever smell the heady aroma of freshly crushed tomato leaves between your fingers or the fragrance of a lushly sweet cantaloupe ready to be harvested? All senses become stimulated upon entering this tranquil space.  Nothing subtle about the sensory delights offered by nature every day in the back yard garden, from birds singing lovely melodies to buds bursting forth with rich perfume to flavorful explosions upon the taste buds. All shades of colors tantalize the eyes, dotting the interior landscape. Most creatures within live in peaceful harmony, taking advantage of the growing season to thrive, then reproducing, anticipating new life for future generations. Nerdin Gardens: Standing Up Bright  This single red rose stood up bright in the garden. A quick glance caused my heart to startin’.  At once your presence became well known, that familiar aroma, what was your own.  The breeze stirred up, carrying it away. Hope you again pass this way someday.  Red roses were my mother's favorite flower and we planted them in Nerdin Gardens as a reminder of our love. She occasionally makes a brief appearance and then quickly spirits off to parts unknown.  I miss you mom.   Looking for an experienced Realtor that will go to work for you? Nerdin Gardens: The Spirit of Cooperation  When harvesting Muscadines in Nerdin Gardens, I found myself dodging yellow jackets, wasps and honey bees at every turn. While they dove toward me and after several attempts to cut free the deep purple orbs of deliciousness, a different strategy had to be implemented. Most bees will die once they sting. Not wanting to end their cycle, I said to them, “In Nerdin Gardens, we appreciate the life you bring to us every growing season and we are more than willing to share.” Once they knew that no harm was meant, that we wanted to enjoy the fruits of our labor as well, they suddenly went about their business.  We were all working side-by-side toward similar goals. Once that was understood and respected, the spirit of cooperation came fully into play. ...

Nerdin Gardens: By The Seeds Of Our Plants.  A strong work ethic matters when growing a garden. There are no days off unless inclement weather threatens, pushing everyone indoors, but even then, the most dedicated will ensure all chores are done before doing so.  There are only three seasons for avid gardeners: Before harvest Harvest and After harvest  This means much patience in waiting for what was put in the ground to come up vertically. Planting requires being on time, every time or be late in everything and nature strongly disagrees with loosely laid plans. We continuously reap a bountiful harvest, by the seeds of our plants! Happy gardening all.  Looking for a top producing Realtor that will go to work for you? Nerdin Gardens: Making a Beeline!  Honey bees consistently utilize their time expeditiously during daylight hours by seeking out flowers to collect food for the survival of the hive. Worker honey bees have a life span of six weeks so it is imperative they make the best use of time to benefit the colony. It is fascinating to watch them 'dance' around the center of flowers, collecting nectar as the pollen sticks to their saddlebags. No time for dilly dallying, just a strong work ethic instinct en-grained to achieve the goals set forth. So, next time you see one, just let it be. It might be making a beeline back home, where we all want to be at the end of the day, right?!  Looking for a top producing Realtor that will go to work for you? Nerdin Gardens: A Pro Preyer  Nothing amateurish comes to mind when thinking of these stealthy creatures. Every move is carefully planned for maximum gain. Never straying far from its perch, the praying mantis declares its territory, unchallenged. Exuding the patience of a saint, while remaining perfectly motionless for extended periods of time, guarantees a meal is within short reach. Its long spindly raptorial forelegs are mainly used for grasping unsuspecting prey. Happy to glimpse these wondrous living beings, though they spot me long before I notice them. A home garden's friend, they are a welcome sight and glad they feel at home just hanging around. Happy gardening all! The mantis's work ethic is similar to good real estate industry practices. Ensure that every step you take towar...

Nerdin Gardens: We Wet Our Plants  My husband and I pulled a record amount of produce from Nerdin Gardens in several hours one day. It is time consuming, especially when picking the Sweet Million cherry tomatoes. These bushes are heavily laden with these tiny clusters of flavorful orbs! And then there are santaorange roma tomatoes, heirloom and early girl tomatoes, midnight snacks, citrusy lemon cucumbers, straight eight cucumbers, crook-neck squash, zucchini, green chilies, jalapenoes, dwarf green peppers, sweet red peppers and more... We were so excited over this abundant harvest that we both wet our plants! My thoughts: Successful gardening and running a thriving business means a grateful and thankful spirit for accrued abundance, being prepared for leaner times and maintaining a hea...

Nerdin Gardens: All Our Maters Matter  Some top producing, attention seekers have been creating quite a stir by vying for the coveted #1 spot in Nerdin Gardens. The all-star line up sports a wide array of tastes, weights, colors, compact or rotund, round and oblong.  The competition is fierce with capable challengers, playing to strengths rather than their opponents weaknesses. No two are alike, each offering up a delicious flavor-packed punch, targeting the taste buds after hitting the tongue.  In the left corner, we have:Roma Tomatoes - Most popular in Italian cooking, especially in sauces, these tangy, oblong fruits are very red or bright orange in color, also great in salads and canning because they are meaty and full of flesh. Very deserving of the Big Acid Award! In the right corn...

Nerdin Gardens: A Shy Sunnyface Fearful that all the other garden flowers would outshine her, Sunnyface hid among the large, tri-lobed leaves, refusing to fully show.   Thinking if she waited long enough, all the other gorgeous blooms would wither, allowing her to present quite spectacularly.  Day in, day out, she expectantly peeked from the hiding place, only to spy new blossoms taking the place of older ones.   Nature continued performing the cycle of life, bud to bloom to seed. Due to constant worry, Sunnyface forfeited her intended potential. Her petals, once a vibrant, resilient yellow lost their hue, the edges turning a softer shade, curling away, the finality from life to death.  Moral of the story: Avoid allowing fear to be a guide and worry less when planning to make an impact....

Nerdin Gardens: While Harvesting Hollyhock Seeds...  Hollyhocks are a Nerdin Gardens favorite, among many flowering plants and can reach 10 feet tall with blooms that travel upward, along the stalks. After cycling through their growing season, I gather the dried seed pods to plant, once springtime again arrives.  While diligently using the grab, squeeze and pull method, suddenly I felt to be the target of a most watchful eye. Perched high upon the next plant over, remaining absolutely motionless, a Praying Mantis diligently worked to achieve the day's food goal. They are very welcome and a natural resident of our back yard garden. I respect their boundaries and am in awe of the work ethic they possess. For them, it's not a choice, if they fail to accomplish the tasks set forth, it could...

Nerdin Gardens: Orange you glad?  While red is a typical color for most ripe tomatoes, these brightly hued fruits are just begging for attention! Santorange Roma Tomatoes are crunchy, orange, plum or grape shaped, with excellent taste.  Fantastic on sandwiches or in a dinner salad, they are amazing in any spaghetti sauce as well. We are excited to grow them in Nerdin Gardens along with many other varieties that aim to please the palette. So, orange you glad to know more about these Santorange Roma Tomatoes?
