Ain't NOTHING like the REAL THING! What do Bioengineered Foods & Artificial Intelligence have in common? They are both modifications of the real thing, meant to be beneficial. Also, when someone claims to be smart but are instead, artificially intelligent, lacking in the brains department, that can be extremely dangerous. 👀  Initially, bioengineered foods were scientifically designed to be grown larger, to feed more people, up the anty on nutrition and mineral benefits but instead, has caused severe allergies in humans. Though these plants tend to be disease resistent, they can also be harmful to beneficial insects. Back when I was growing up, there were no cow's milk, gluten, peanut or strawberry allergies, which is why an all-natural approach is best. Our garden produces quite a bit o...

A High Desert Love Affair in 5️⃣3️⃣ WordsThis month’s ActiveRain challenge brought about so many ideas to think about. At first, I thought perhaps to write it about my real estate career, then thought maybe I’d write it about our kids or those amazing grands and then realized that my relationship with Michael is everlasting and so special.  Donning the creative writing cap, the 53 words came quickly, turning into over a hundred or more, then I had to take it down several times because the words were plentiful. Every day revolves around the life we built together here in the southern Utah area. Going strong since 1998 with future plans. Here is the result: Beneath the vast, star-studded skies of Southern Utah, a love story unfolds as lively and untamed as the wild west of yesteryear. Fin...

Nerdin Gardens: Nature's Reservoirs Did you know that green, red, orange peppers aka bell peppers are small, water storage tanks? Quite often, during growing season and I cut the tops off, then stuff them with Philly cheesesteak ingredients or a hamburger mixture, parmesan cheese and chunky tomato sauce-based filling.  The peppers are pretty much watertight while growing, absorbing water up through its roots in Nerdin Gardens. I’m thinking that it’s a pretty good sustainable mechanism to collect and store water, just in case they're deprived for any amount of time. It’s like a built-in survival system.  You could say it's a 'use some now, save more for later' type use.  I am in awe about how nature continuously produces, survives and flourishes. If only humans would or could emulate the...

Peanut the Frenchie PrincessPeanut, our first Grandbaby girl, who grabbed our hearts and squeezed tight from the start, crossed the rainbow bridge on July 11th, 2024. Though her time here on Earth was limited, the love she shared was boundless and will last forever. Peanut leaves behind a heartbroken family. We are so grateful for all the affectionate wet kisses, the endless enthusiasm for car rides, running and exploring, chewing on sticks and rocks, plus the unwavering loyalty to all her loved ones. She had a knack for making every day brighter, her Frenchie charm and upbeat spirit was a constant source of joy. Peanut may be gone, but the unbreakable bond she forged will forever hold a cherished place in our hearts. We love you Peanut. 🐾🖤🐾

Nerdin Gardens: Talk Dirt To Me It's thirsty work to keep all plants watered properly in Nerdin Gardens and I always pro-seed with caution. Too much and bottom rot occurs, too little and the leaves on plants wilt and then there's pesky pests to contend with, specifically those that bore into the stems.  There’s never a dill moment around here plus remembering to sow between the lines makes plants happy. They will talk dirt, out loud even! This is what was heard this morning when picking fruits and vegetables for a garden salad later today for me and My Honey... "I love you so bunch.""My rooting heart beets for you!""It’s party thyme, I be-leaf in you.""I love peas and quiet.""You are one in a melon!" A well tended garden pays off in gratituitous affection especially when we are mint to ...

Nerdin Gardens: Sunday's Grateful Harvest Despite the heat of the summer, we managed to pull in an abundant day's harvest this morning, thanks to My Honey's green thumb and some extra TLC! Rather than allow our garden to become wilted or succumb to hot weather, a little extra watering and weeding is the solution. We are ever grateful for nature and the gifts from Nerdin Gardens that are bestowed upon us season after growing season. I predict a few fresh salads in our near future from garden to table. Happy Sunday all!

If It Looks Like a Duck... First thing this morning, a family of ducks visited Nerdin Gardens for a quick rest before heading out to Pine Valley Reservoir.Aren't they adorable? 💛😆💛 Using a common sense approach, anyone can clearly see that those are not really ducks. They are crook neck squash from our back yard garden. Verification is necessary to reach a rational conclusion, if that is the goal. Small children may not be able to decipher reality from fantasy and because the squash does mimic the shape and color. To them they are indeed ducks! Some adults will agree with the premise rather than seeking the truth or questioning the validity of the claim. For them, it's easier to avoid a potential confrontation. In real estate, passive behavior serves no one in either party. Clients depe...

Moving Forward With Purpose Spending a cooler morning in the backyard garden, I am often awed when met with a Swallowtail or Monarch butterfly as they pass through. They tend to use Nerdin Gardens as a much needed rest stop, then off they go! Be more like a butterfly and move with momentum, on the go, prioritizing time, knowing its own expectations will be met. For us humans, there is no time to be still when loved ones and buyer/seller clients are dependent on us.Greeting the day with a Can-Do mindset and constant movement gains positive results. Just look at the life of this amazing creature, flitting here and there, taking little time to refresh and then moving forward with purpose.  Happy day all!

And then she said, "The Chicken Is Dry." Once upon a time, using the good manners that momma taught and common courtesy were expected and respectfully carried through. Seems there is a disconnect today and some people think they are entitled to say whatever they wish with no consequences.  Our practices are old school, especially when it comes to entertaining. We make everyone feel welcome, feed them, play games and provide live music with some of the best bands in southern Utah. One woman was there only because her husband was playing on stage.  While heaping a plate with a variety of food, she said, "The Chicken Is Dry." My mother, a true, Georgia southerner, would have verbally cut her in half with a witty comeback or a swooning, Well, Bless Your Heart but she was told instead, "Then...

Nerdin Gardens: Thankful From My Heart and Soil! Our backyard garden has always been a true labor of love. Much time and effort toward preparing the soil, planting, nurturing the fruits and vegetables shows once harvesting begins. Being responsible gardeners rates high. Hot temperatures stalled new life momentarily, plus a wind storm snapped stalks and shredded leaves on the zucchini, watermelon and other squash varieties in some of the raised beds. Luckily, nature will overcome some of the destruction. Pulling the weeds manually as an all-natural method that takes diligence. Marigold flowers, praying mantis' and ladybugs work as pest control. Preventative maintenance allows optimum results during the growing season. As the fruits and vegetables in Nerdin Gardens begin to thrive, the fe...

Nerdin Gardens: Bay Leaf in Yourself In a few days, I will, once again, make homemade Split Pea & Ham soup. Perfect for those days when we both work late or just feel less than enthusiastic about getting in the kitchen and cooking or grilling in hotter temperatures. I freeze most for later use. This most delicious recipe is made with yellow squash from the raised beds and fresh bay leaves & basil pulled from herb planters in Nerdin Gardens and includes the sound, see, smell, taste, and touch sensations. The melodious singsong of chirping birds, the consistent buzzing of honey bees diligently collecting pollen from blooming flowers to nature's bright colors, to the distinct scent of herbs and vibrant tomatoes ripening on the vine. Popping a sweet & tangy, orange orb in my mouth while pur...

Happy Father's Day to All, Especially My HEROES!   Ironing my dad's Army fatigues when he was still active military, was the least I could do for a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. Thank you for loving my mom and taking on 7 kids, sacrificing your wants and needs to ensure we had what was necessary, often working two jobs to provide. You are my hero, my rescuer, my saving grace and will always remain in the most favorite part of my heart. Thank you for everything dad! Thank you My Honey for always putting our family first in everything. You are the best husband a woman could ask for, my heart still skips a beat when I think of you! I love you, admire you and laugh more often because you are in my life. It's NATIONAL WEED YOUR GARDEN DAY! Taking a natural approach to gardening means physically pulling weeds that crop up almost daily. Otherwise, intended plant material gets choked out or taken over by invasive creepers. A few minutes a day can make all the difference! Besides, you can bond with nature while enjoying the great outdoors. A trowel, good set of gloves, 5-gallon bucket and a hat are all the tools needed to prevent the weeds from going to seed and reproducing. It can be a vicious cycle! Jake Woodard understands the true gardener mindset: Imagine your mind like a garden and your thoughts are the words. You get to choose what seeds you plant in it. You can plant seeds of positivity, love and abundance. Or you can plant seeds of negativity, fear and lack. You can spend time tryi...
