Instead, they have become extremely self-entitled, dependent upon the system to carry them or the kindness in others. The work ethic has taken a permanent leave in these cases. For those who continue to get up, dress up and show up to make a living, THANK YOU. A day's hard work neve...

Today is Worth Singing About! Caturday's are meant for catching up with paperwork, house chores or for spending time in the garden. Slinky and I would meet quite often in Nerdin Gardens. She would happily supervise in between cat naps and chin scratches, while her tiny paws gently padded their way into my heart. Every day is an opportunity to improve relationships by reaching out to those who matter, even if it's just a satisfying belly rub. Happy Caturday all!

Putting the NERD in NERDIN GARDENS! Every growing season, we unleash our inner 'nerd' into the back yard garden, encouraging nature to be bountiful with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. This Spring, we will till the soil, prepare it for growth, plant, then eventually reap the delicious rewards of all our hard work. A robust home garden takes much effort, passion and dedication, much like running a business. Maintaining the work ethic for both is crucial for success, along with implementing good daily habits. We put the 'nerd' into our back yard garden by: Tilling: Rotating natural fertilizer into the already back soil, loosens any compacted earth to allow for proper drainage, air circulation, providing space for plant root growth. Preparing: Water systems are re-installed every...

Nerdin Gardens: Lettuce Romaine Calm What happens when flora and fauna in a back yard garden cause an uprising of epic proportions, with seemingly unjustifiable demands? No amount of reason could tamp down or beet the unified, emotional turmoil in the nutrient rich soil. All-seeing, with eyes in the back of his head, Spudnik, the leader of the russet potato clan and Cornpop, who's all ears, led the charge. They demanded more productive appreciation and ingrained respect for giving their all, season after growing season! Eggplants, in full-scale rebellion-mode began lobbing cherry bombs as a defensive tactic, aphids willing to sacrifice themselves, threatened an all-encompassing leaf invasion, the likes no one has ever witnessed before. Radishes created a series of tunnels designed to bu...

Pink is... Fourteen more days until spring arrives, to once again, wow us with an undeniable presence. Longer, warmer days, filled with new beginnings. Trees budding out with growth, flowers blossoming and a constant, honey bee work flow. Occasionally, I am inspired to write little diddy's about things to come, especially sun-soaked days. Little discoveries become a delightful part of a crisp morning or an afternoon spent going from bloom to bloom, taking them all in. Pink is... Pink is a fresh rose,  That tickles the nose. Pink is a pig’s snout, Breathing in & then out. Pink is a cotton candy treat, Light, fluffy and sugary sweet. Pink is a blushing, lover’s faceKissed in a passionate embrace! Earth & Heart Have the Same Letters As an avid gardener, two words correlate well, H-E-A-R-T & E-A-R-T-H. Each has a place in determining the overall progress of Nerdin Gardens. Successful back yard garden requires diligent care and follow through. Growing season is a sincere commitment for us here in sunny southern Utah and as some of you know, we plant many varieties of fruits and vegetables. Both of us have enjoyed many meals that included zucchini, crook neck squash and fresh tomatoes straight from garden to table! One of the best salads that I have ever eaten is very simple and made with crisp, romaine lettuce and peeled, sliced Roma tomatoes. The dressing is made with fresh, minced garlic cloves, apple cider and basalmic vinegrette and olive oil. Marinating the Roma tomatoes in th...

Nerdin Gardens: Growing Season 2024 Soon, My Honey aka Mr. Green Jeans will till the raised beds, introducing fertilizer to further enrich the dark black, nutrient-rich soil. Drip lines are installed once we decide on what to grow, maximizing fruition. Successful back yard gardening takes some proper planning and preparation, avid gardeners understand that. Same goes for maintaining a thriving business. Consistency and care go into achieving clients goals. All-natural processes and procedures, means we know what goes into our plants, unlike products purchased at the grocery store. A package may claim to be 'organic' but does the consumer really know? A green house may be in the near future, so we may cut out store shopping for produce altogether and, instead, grow them from garden to ta...

There's always rainbows in my clouds. Yours? Though some real estate markets may still be brisk, others have slowed or even stalled across the country, potentially driving people out of the industry. Take advantage of the down time to contact past clients and trusted affiliates in an effort to create new business. Professionals understand the importance of reaching out and implementing tried and true methods during these times. Your mama and daddy ain't going to do that for you. At least, I hope not. And while many will remain, others will seek employment elsewhere! Fleeting rain showers ignite a vibrant spectrum of vivid colors stretching down from the heavens. ~ Wanda Kubat-NerdinThere's always rainbows in my clouds. Nerdin Gardens: Top Producer A-peel Nothing better than plucking oranges off our tree in February and eating one for breakfast. Yum, so delish! Though citrus trees usually thrive in lower elevation locations, we have managed to grow them in Nerdin Gardens. Once spring arrives, we transport the lime, lemon, orange, grapefruit and kumquat trees from an outbuilding to a specific place, where they will thrive during the growing season in direct sunlight. Honey bees pollinate their blooms. The results are amazing as we pull the lemons and limes and use them in dishes and as a garnish in beverages. Our kumquat tree produces twice a year and those orbs of goodness are best popped in the mouth whole, to fully enjoy. We always look forward to the planning and preparation of our gardens as temper...

Sunshine and buzzes fill the air... Walking outside to the garden area, I noticed several honey bees darting past, busily foraging on a warmer, southern Utah winter day. A practiced landing at the hive to unload saddlebags, heavily laden with food, then setting off again to collect more. Am excited to see their proactive spirit, perhaps a lesson for humans on self-sufficiency rather relying on outside means for sustainability. Bees have the best work ethic of most creatures that I know, other than the dung beetle and we all know what he deals with, day in and day out. And that’s no bull!

Here until the cows come home. Each day, in good weather, the dairy farmer turns his cows loose to graze in the pastures or nearby meadow after milking. Though they may wander as far as the land takes them, when it's time to return the the shelter, an internal clock strikes, encouraging a mass movement back to the barn. Agents get up, dress up and show up to work, traveling to places within a selling area in order to achieve buyers and sellers goals. Ultimately, they instinctively gravitate toward home at the end of the day to eat a meal, catch up on paperwork, eat, then prepare for the next day of the work week. Much like ourselves, cows thrive on routines, are social animals who also prefer their own company. They remain curious and seek comfort within the herd. Quite often, we encour...

It's INTERNATIONAL HUG DAY! Did you know that the average hug lasts just over 3 seconds and that hugs can alleviate stress and elevate the mood? Apparently single people benefit from hugs much more than married couples and can also reduce fear and pain. It's said they may also support immune and cardiovascular health. I'm no doctor but can agree with the above information. So, follow the  "Monkey see, monkey do!" practice today, give some hugs and see what it does for you and for others!

We're All Here Because We're Not All There! Talk about a double entendre if ever there was one and on the flip side, thank goodness I'm here instead of not all there. Commonality continues to bring us all together, forming a diverse and vibrant community here in the Rain. January 14, 2024, marks 15 years of posting and commenting, though I became a member in late 2008. A little hesitant to put anything 'out there', for a short time and then decided to take the plunge with a story of Leased Resistance. At that time,  was in 1300+ place and now am the #1 blogger in Utah and #1 in Washington County, Utah & St. George, Utah. Referrals from fellow members means a higher  level of trust in me to help clients realize their real estate goals. ActiveRain offers an abundance of benefits, ranging ...

A flash of brilliant sunlight In a world where complaints roll easily off the tongue, dissatisfaction is at a high point, unhappiness rules over mediocre customer service, salacious, media headlines that are designed to incite, be that bright spot that people generate toward, instead of away from. That is my plan for the rest of the year and for 2024! What is yours? A flash of brilliant sunlight between heavy vapor brings the eyes up right, elevating the spirits concurrently.  ~ Wanda Kubat-Nerdin ***Photo is of a captivating light show in southern Utah near my home. Am so lucky to capture such a sight and another reason I love where I live. Light it up, up up!
