Nyah nyah ya missed me Uh,oh that was close and nyah, nyah, ya missed me from Swat that Fly (Western Publishing Co Inc) make their way into my light hearted study of seismic activity today in Utah Holiday weekend or no, earthquake activity continues in my area of interest as normal (or less than normal ~ a mere 24 incidents for the week, and relatively minor ones at that). All activity for the week has been in the micro or less ranges. I realize that I have indulged in a flight of fancy by mentally superimposing the "Swat that Fly" board over my area of interest map. But even the most serious pursuits manage to have a degree of levity attached. Try Googling "Cemetery Humor" and you will see what I mean. When once again next week I return to straight-faced seriousness, at least you will...

A bit of something for everybody Our current growing season in Sandy UT looks like being shortened from both ends. We had snow falls into May and now the nights are indicating that the Cool is on its way. The last several days have been decidedly cooler, and the summer heat has been tempered. A real lack of bees at blossom and flowering time has had a severe effect on garden produce. Garden beds have begged for ever increasing amounts of water. After all, we are high altitude desert. Rain is measured in drops per acre. Squash and zucchini are still without product, and look like missing the boat entirely. To fill the salsa gap, tomatoes are abundant in numbers, size and quality, but peppers of all colors are rather poor and minuscule. Onions, garlic and most herbs appear to have had a y...

Holiday weekend feelings in Sandy UT Excitement in the air. Afternoon traffic has intensity and purpose - more than the usual number of trailers and motor homes on the road and suuee-ee-zing into gas stations with the hesitancy of having not been driven for a while. An holiday is in the offing. More than the usual number of shoppers in supermarkets - snack foods seem a necessity, but any food is fair game. Even temperature have declined a little, promising a beautiful holiday weekend in Sandy UT. Perhaps Fall is not too far off.  I harp on local feelings, because that is where I shall be - some of us have to work. Two all-nighters will take care of a large part of my weekend. Not that I complain ~ I get to meet a lot of visitors from other parts as they visit my city (some even looking ...

September challenge and localism I'm all for a challenge. It's rubber and road time. and there are others, equally insane, across the country, validating my instability of mind by joining me in this endeavor. And to think I have participated in several 30 day challenges before always ending with "never again" only to weaken with growing excitement. With these challenges I learn a lot about people and lifestyles. With this dedication to Localism I expect to learn about places as well. I promise you, come October 1, if you paint by the numbers and pay close attention, you will not only know heaps about Sandy UT, its environs, and inhabitants but you will become strangely desirous of visiting for a more intimate knowledge of the city that will become your "home awa...

Sandy Amphitheater, Plays,  Broadway Musicals, Concerts and Entertainment.  Last night was my first time attending the Sandy Amphitheater.  Now I'm asking myself why I waited so long to go.  About 5 minutes from my house the Sandy Amphitheater is a fabulous place.  The amphitheater was easy to get to (I drive by it almost everyday) clean, wtih a friendly staff and a fabulous performance.  They have a large concession stand and offer everything from premier seating to lawn (blanket or chair areas to choose from) .  Its a very affordable way to spend an evening.   Last nights performance of HAIRSPRAY was fantastic.  I'm so jealous of their ability to sing.  I will be back and watching more performances for sure.  So spread the word, this is a fabulous place to go and hang out.  Utah offer...

Sandy Utah Home SOLD! Yippee, Gotta love it when a deal comes together. Finally and believe me this home had its challenges.  The sellers went on vacation during the middle of the deal neglecting to tell their agent or to consider this during negotations and happened to fall during two of our deadlines.  The sellers also disappeared after they signed papers and went on another vacation.  The only problem with this is that they still weren't moved out.... Minor dilemma for my buyers.  After days of begging, negotiating and working with the other agent to make the sellers realize they need to move out ASAP, it all came together.  The buyer received her keys and has moved in.  A little stress, a little drama and some more gray hair = another happy customer! I love working with buyers!! If ...

Sandy Utah Housing Stats from 2005 to 2011.  Very interesting to watch how the price has fluctuated.  This has been a great report to show my sellers in the Sandy area.  Visually seeing the numbers helps them understand the true pricing for the Sandy area.  This is especially usefull when you have sellers that want to price high to "test" the market.  Unbelievable the drop in average price sold .

I got to see the penguins! Today was the last field trip of the year for my daughters 4th Grade class at Grace Lutheran School in Sandy, Utah. We had a blast thank you so much to the Living Planet Aquarium for arranging the school tour/field trip.  It was fabulous! The penguins are new to the aquarium within the last year.  They were so playful and I could have stayed there all day watching. They are so strong and you can really tell when they go from plunging into the water, swimming around to flying out of the water back on to their land.  You've seen it on TV or on Happy Feet, but to see it in person was really fun. The kids loved it. THey have a shark tank, a couple touch tanks and a large area where you can pet sting rays!   Here's a super short video of some of the penguins swimmi...

Memorial Day (plus 1)For Memorial Day our local cemeteries attract a large number of floral tributes. This may be common across the country, but I have only Utah for my reference, as I  am "new" resident and seem to be here for most major holidays. The Sandy City (UT) cemetery  is less than 300 yards from my home.Since Thursday the floral tributes and pinwheels have been arriving to make its peak display ready for Memorial Day (yesterday). Not wishing to intrude on personal grief and remembrance, I made my photo record on Memorial Day plus 1.I am relatively unfamiliar with cemetery decoration in my life, so the bursts of color intrigue me in every Utah cemetery I pass, suggesting care and attention by families for their ancestors and loved ...

In Reach of my ChairMy days can be hectic with lots of comings and goings (or is it vice versa?)But my home provides the rest and relaxation that I need to recharge. I often trundle around the yard to investigate the happenings in nature, and to see what plants are now guests at "our place". For most of my life I had "a home among the gum trees". Now in Sandy, Utah I find my surroundings to have a perpetual freshness.I appreciate the mature trees with their new foliage, I delight in the small plants and their struggle to make themselves known, and I can invite the snails and slugs to live elsewhere.Springs brings much activity; so much and so varied. With the soil being super-saturated, I keep my chair to hard standing and pathways. Abundance is with...
