Technically The Habit shouldn't qualify as a localism post, it is a chain out of Santa Barbara, but they do almost no advertising.  I had never heard of this wonderful chain until Darcy and I decided to give it a try one afternoon. There was a fairly large line, and we thought, well, it must be good.  We weren't wrong!   They call their hamburgers Char Burgers and you can decide what you wish to have on them.  I recommend the Santa Barbara Char Burger.  I really liked this place, the food is prepared to order and the Onion Rings only cost a dime more than French Fries!  If you do go, you have to be sure to try the little yellow wax peppers. That is if you don't mind some real heat! The nearest Habit to us is located in Farmington Station, west of Interstate 15. Try it, I promise, you wo...

If you have ever driven north on Interstate 15 in Davis County and looked atop the mountains to the east, you have undoubtedly noticed the round shaped radar components atop Francis Peak.  This is a radar sight which provides weather data to the University of Utah and the National Weather Service. It is a beautiful, yet sometimes nerve racking  drive to get to Francis Peak, but the views once there are spectacular.  I used to have a lot of pictures taken from up there, but they have become part of history in the moves that we have made.  The peak its self is about 9500 feet above sea level.   In the vicinity of the radar site there is some great camping places and some wonderful hiking trails.  In my opinion, a four wheel drive vehicle is needed to drive up there, the road is well trave...

Today I am featuring Utah's Family Fun Park, (at least according to the advertising), Lagoon.  Lagoon is located in Farmington, and it is Northern Utah's premier amusement Park.  Lagoon has been around since the late 1800's and on it's current site since 1886. I honestly had no idea that it was that old!  My older brother worked there one Summer when he was in High School, so much of the mystique was taken away when I was pretty young.  There are several great roller coasters and other attractions including Pioneer Village. I will admit, I am not a huge fan, my neck doesn't react well to roller coasters anymore, knowing that, I haven't seen a lot of need to go.  That being said, if you're into roller coasters, they have some great ones!  Including the double looping Collossus, Wicked an...

This Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Evening will be your last chance to visit Lagoon Amusement Park before next spring. Lagoon is located in Farmington, about 15 miles north of Salt Lake City and about a 45 minute drive from Park City.  Visit the Lagoon web site for more information.  Lagoon will be open from 5-10 PM each day and will be celebrating the upcoming Halloween Holiday with Frightmares.  Frightmares is a great event with something for the whole family.  From not so scary haunted houses for the young ones like Spook-A-Boo Walk Thru and Scary and Crow's Straw Maze to screamingly scary haunted houses for older kids and kids at heart like Zombi Lockdown and Nightwalk among others. Most rides and attractions will be open as well so take advantage of the last few days at Lagoon befo...

Home Loans Farmington Utah Home loan options in Farmington, Utah Want to know different mortgage options near Farmington, Utah? Here's your guide. Conventional Fixed Rate Mortgages are the most popular of all the mortgages in Farmington, Utah. Conventional Fixed Rate Mortgages (or "FRM" for short) offer constant interest rate for the entire life of the loan and monthly payments remain constant. Usually this loan requires a 20% down payment, but it is not always required!  You can expect this mortgage to last between 10 and 40 years. The opposite of a Fixed Rate Mortgage,Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARM) are not fixed. It's only fitting that they call it an 'adjustable rate'. The interest rate you pay changes as the market changes. Every year, your interest rate is recalculated. This means...

Blogging From The Road - Lagoon Amusement Park   In case you don't always follow my blog, our boys and I (Gretchen) are on a month-long trip to Utah to visit family. We spent a week in Ogden, Utah and probably the high point of the week for the boys was our visit to Lagoon Amusement Park. To us, amusement parks are just so very "summer". Talk about one adrenaline rush after another! The boys were in heaven and I even tried a few rides including "Wicked", a pretty intense roller coaster (and I use that term lightly), that takes riders straight up then plummets them straight down before twisting and going upside down, all at break neck speeds. This is significant because I don't ride rides. The last I went on was 8 years ago and that was the ferris wheel. We've moved on to Moab, Utah no...

Lagoon: Utah's version of Disneyland.  OK, I will have to admit it has taken me almost 9 years to go to Lagoon. For anyone not familiar with Lagoon, it is an amusement park that features roller coasters, a water park and all different levels of rides for the entire family.  It is located in Farmington, Utah which is about 40 minutes from where we live in Sandy, Utah.  The park is open to different venues, events, (my daughters dance team, Studio 56 dance has had a competition there before) school events and they even have a campground for those who love to camp.  During the fall season they offer Frightmares as a Halloween type treat. Lagoon has over 45 rides to choose from, truly something for everyone!  So back to why I went: The kids' school (grades 6-8) had a Lagoon day and needed d...

Farmington, Utah's Lagoon Amusement Park in Infrared   Being an Infrared Thermographer, I find capturing most all things in Infrared to be interesting. After doing an Infrared Home Inspection in Farmington Utah, I couldn't help but get the desire to see some roller coasters in Infrared. I was standing outside the fence taking images and then I was run off by security. Taking pictures of park goers is apparntly not accepted which is quite understandable. Here are a few of the Infrared images I did manage to capture

Farmington, Utah Equine Thermal Imaging at the Legacy Event Center If anyone lives around Farmington, Utah than they are well aware of the large horse community and popular equine events that bring in horse enthusist from hundreds of miles away. Yesterday was the 2nd of the 3 day Easter Weekend Equine Events. Over 218 horses competed in the barrel racing event alone. It was a long but fun filled day for horse owners and especially for me being an Equine Thermographer. Being able to show horse owners things about their horse that they could have never seen without thermal imaging doesn't ever get old.   For several years, Utah Infrared has been saving home owners and home buyers thousands of dollars by providing infrared home and building inspections. Recently Utah Infrared became the Sa...

Renting Vs. Buying a Home in Farmington, Utah With the financial turmoil the country is in many of my clients are asking me is it still a good time to buy a home?  With home values dropping the past three years and many critics projecting them to drop again this year many think investing in real estate is to risky.                                                                                                                                  However, we must look at the whole picture when considering renting vs. buying a home.  With anything there are advantages and disadvantages.  The advantages of renting an apartment are obvious, you have little to no maintenance and it is very easy to pick up and move.  On the flip side there are several advantages to owning a home.  Do you know tha...

Over the weekend I was able to get some new photos of the Station Park development (finally a near sunny day) and also get an update on anticipated timelines for some of the early openings. Harmons continues to plan for a May opening.  Based on construction to date, it certainly looks like that will be a realistic timeline.  As you see from the photo, the main structure's walls are now well developed and with a good deal of the brick facia Harmon's stores are known for already in place.  A good deal of interior work is also being completed as roofing has been put in place.  Some of the interior concrete has also been poured.  Harmons' construction crews are busy this year as they are working on both the Station Park and City Creek projects. The Cinemark building is also taking shape in ...
