City of Tomball's 2nd Saturday at the Depot, November 13th, 2010!  This event happens at the Depot every 2nd Saturday.  Turn at this sign at the Railroad tracks and go to the depot.  Sometimes you will see this sign around Tomball when the 2nd Saturday is approaching. The depot is decorated for Christmas. The caboose is decorated as well. The activities started at 5pm and the bouncy house was one of the activities for the kids. Tomball Fire & Rescue attended as well, making a grand entrance with lights flashing and horns blaring. After dark they showed a movie for the kids on this screen. There was a meal served or you could pay $4 for a hamburger plate from HEB.     See part II of this blog for more information about 2nd Saturday at the Depot and pictures of the inside of the depot.

Tomball Farmers Market -- 2nd & 4th Saturdays!  The Farmers Market is held at 2920 and Cherry Street on a lot across from the school admistration building. Usually on the second and fourth Saturdays there will be a person holding a sign up so the people passing by in their cars can see the Farmers Market is going on. This booth was selling local honey and all sorts of pickles, and canned goods. The farmers market does take place in Old Town Tomball, about 5 blocks from the rail road tracks at the intersection of 2920 (Main St) and Cherry St. Here are some good smelling lotions and candles.  I see she takes credit cards.  Good to know. Here are some interesting tiles or countertop samples.  It almost looks like Silestone. One booth had fresh herbs for sale.  I had to resist rubbing my fi...

I just love Panera Bread, and was excited to see it listed at #1 in an internet article a few weeks ago about Healthy Fast Food. Here is the menu.  There are lots of good selections.  One of the reasons it was touted as being so healthy is that the chicken is natural, no antibiotics etc.  Also, they give you the option of chips, apple or bread to accompany your sandwich. Do you see the little red sign at the bottom left of the sign?  It says you pick two and it is a great way to get a salad and a sandwich or soup.  I haven't tried the mac & cheese yet, let me know if you have and if you liked it. Here is my you pick 2, I got a classic cafe salad and black bean soup in a sourdough bread bowl.  The bread bowl cost extra, but it was great.  I usually get an artichoke sandwich, those are a...

Night At The Movies: "Skyline" At Silverado 19 in Tomball, Texas.   This is a relatively new theater in Tomball.   It sure is handy for those in Tomball, Magnolia and Houston.  They also have an IMAX theater where they sometimes have 3D movies as well.  This theater also has something called D Box.  Check the Santikos website for more information.  I saw skyline tonight.  It is the sci-fi thriller about the people disappearing into the white light (sounds like people when they die, right?).  It had a lot of the same features as the new "War of the Worlds" movie with Tom Cruise.  There were some cool looking mini UFO ships that looked like metallic mosquitoes and another set that looked like they had octopus arms.    The black stealth bomber made a good showing for our side (humans).  So...

Veteran's Day Celebration At Lone Star College -- Tomball, TX -- Nov. 9th, 2010.  This rousing salute to the Veteran's took place in the Commons area of Lone Star College -- Tomball Campus on Tuesday November 9th, 2010 at 12:30pm At each of the entrances to Lone Star College -- Tomball, a succession of small flags was placed along the curb in honor of the veterans. Here is a second view of the color guard before the Veteran's Day Program began.  Several branches of the armed services are represented.  There were several patriotic songs sung.  Last year they had veterans in attendance going all the way back to World War II.  I thank all the veteran's who have helped secure the freedoms I hold so dear.  Thank You for your sacrifice.

Fall Fest 2010 My movie question was: "What was the famous movie starring Janet Leigh with a shower scene?" I answered "Psycho" right after the words Janet Leigh.  I won a body part, I chose a chocolate eyeball. Here was the prize desk of the penny toss.  Like the black cat? I got 4 pennies in the containers and won the brown bear with the joy star. I didn't do so well on placing the organs on the skeleton in the right place while blindfolded. You have to have face painting at a festival.  I had a butterfly painted on my cheek. Here is a unique pumkin carving for the pumpkin carving contest. A far off view of the halloweeen balloons for fall fest 2010. Just couldn't resist putting these cute goats in this blog.  They were from the petting zoo at the Renaissance Festival last saturday, s...

Want To Meet The Texans Cheerleaders?  They were at Chick-Fil-A last night from 6 - 7pm.  What a nice group of young ladies they were.  I think they go to Chick-Fil-A on a regular basis during football season -- maybe once a month they will make an appearance. They were so sweet to autograph pom-poms and posters for anyone who asked. Here is the poster they signed for me.  I also asked them to sign one for my brother Bill.  I'll give it to him at Christmas.   Here is one of the Texans balloons they giving away.  Even the Chick-Fil-A cow got in on the action, dressing in a cow size cheerleading outfit -- complete with pleats. Aside from the pom-poms, I got a chuckle out of the red and white bows on cow's ears.

What would we do without pets in our lives to entertain and amuse us?   After a stressing day of driving around evaluating properties or looking for just the right one for a particular client, it is a calculated part of our homecoming to find our two indoor cats and two outdoor cats waiting for us as. Even on the days when we have been out looking properties over , we can still count on the faithful kitty's to greet us and share a part of their day.   We secured the services of these two five years ago this month at the Durango animal shelter. We had made our move to Durango with an elderly cat and dog who had gone on to their rewards during our living time there. We missed them, but figured that since we were at work almost all the time we really did not need companionship. After all...

Open houses have been around forever and everyone does them differently. One thing they almost all have in common is refreshments.   What do you think is the perfect open house refreshment? It needs to be appealing, convenient, easy to prepare and serve, neat and tidy. Inexpensive is also a plus, but clearly we cannot have everything.   Weekend opens require different fare than an open house during the week. The target audience is different for those two times. During the week you are most likely trying to attract fellow Realtors. The time of the day is also usually around noon when casseroles and sandwiches are pretty standard. Saturday and Sunday afternoons lend themselves to snack foods, or coffee cake, cookies and punch.   If you are health conscious, you will want to serve someth...

When we moved to the majestic woods north of Houston after having lived in the city all my life, it never occurred to me that there were basic tricks to surviving in the country. One would think that since I had read all the “Little house on the Prairie books, that I would have seen there were some basic comforts we might be without in certain circumstances. Nope. Never gave it a thought. For several years we did not have any remote problems. Not once did it occur to me that many of the conveniences I held so dear, hinged upon the adequate and constant supply of electricity.   In many country homes, things such as plumbing, heating, cooling and water are often on the electrical system. These things can suddenly run a muck. Power surges and brown outs can alter your life in a nanosecond....

Since much of our Real Estate careers has been centered around predominantly country properties, we periodically find that many city dwellers would like the country life, but are fearful about the unknown things such as septic systems and wells.   Most everyone is a creature of habit, and we have a tendency to feel more comfortable with things we are familiar with. The good news is that you can have the serenity and beauty of the country and still have comforts. The inside plumbing that you have grown to know and love can be teamed up with outside extras that work well. In fact there is little chance that your mortgage company would let you purchase a home without modern inside facilities. There is a good reason to proceed with caution.   Many country properties are on some sort of pr...

Have you ever noticed that there are many jobs associated with the home buying process? There sure are! The seller has a job. It is to put the house they are selling into top notch condition, to pack things up, to remain calm through the process and to move out when the transaction is finished. Appraisers have a job. It is to arrive at the fair market value of the house that is going through the other processes on the way to closing. Inspectors go over the prospective purchase to be sure that it is what it appears to be, or is what it is represented to be. The title company has specific functions to be sure that all the liens that exist are discovered and paid off. Real Estate agents have numerous functions which we will discuss at another time. Lenders are essential to the process, a...
