Doty River Estates is a rural residential subdivsion that is located on the Colorado River side of Highway 71 just before you reach Smithville.  This small subdivision is unique as some of the homes actually have access to the Colorado River.  The roads are paved.  There are some light protective restrictions ( one of them specifies no mfg. homes ). Some of the lots are appropriate to have horses.

The Hidden Shores subdivision located a few miles outside of Smithville Texas offers a relaxed river and getaway lifestyle to landowners.  There are a few site built homes in Hidden Shores but the majority of the lot ownera are developing their properties into seasonal or year round  RV ports that have electric and telephone service, private wells, and septic systems.   Part of that river lifesyle are the two private parks that each have river access to the Colorado.  These are great parks for, picniks, fishing, or kayaking/canoeing, or just plain old relaxing!  Each park has gated and locked access.  If you are looking for property along the Colorado River in a subdivision, or just looking for waterfront property in and around the greater Austin area please contact me.  I would love to...

I am ready to get my hands dirty.  I have Spring Gardening Fever!!!! and yesterday I drove through Smithville in Bastrop County to show a great rural residential property.  After my showing ( great property BTW!) as I  drove by Grandma's House on Hwy 95 and saw all the beautiful color and plants I had to stop.  This is one nice nursery!  The plants are all so happy and healthy.  Great choices for a rockin' veggie garden and oooohhhh so many lovely flowers!  There is a huge selection of fruit trees too!  I would suggest a stop at Grannys to anyone looking to get their hands dirty in their spring garden in Bastrop County!

Smithville Texas has some great old homes in and around it's historic area.  The town of Smithville was established along the Colorado River in the mid 1800's and became a rail town towards the end of the century.  Now it is known as one of Texas' most film friendly towns with it's tree lined streets filled with period homes.  If you are considering the purchase of a historic or vintage home in Central Texas you should consider looking in the Smithville area.

Things have been tough here in this/our part of Central Texas with the drought!   Grasses are brown, trees are dry.  Tanks are drying up ( makes for some good fishing but not as much sport as when the tanks are full!)  People like my husband and I, who have hay fields, went thru a whole growing season last year and with out one cutting to supplement our feed program.   It is that way for all the local ranchers.  Hay is being brought in from other areas and of course the prices are escalating.  Tough on top of  tough in these economic times.  And here in Bastrop recently  we had a very large wildfire that ravaged lots of acres in the pines as well as pasture land destroying homes and businesses.  But the weatherpeople( being politically correct here!) are telling us that we will have our...
