If you've walked through a labyrinth laid out on the floor or ground in a church, public park, hospital, school, retreat center or even progressive businesses, you've joined millions of people who've discovered this wonderful tool for personal, psychological and spiritual transformation. Labyrinths date back at least 3500, and it is only since the early 1990‘s that they have undergone a dramatic revival into non-religious settings springing up all over the world in diverse places such as Central Park in New York City, Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, Grace Cathedral in San Francisco and the Riverfront Walkway in Naperville, Illinois to name a few. They are made out of all kinds of materials - snow, sand, chalk, fragrant flowers, woodchips, tiles, stones, some are mowed into fi...

Pflugerville has one of the best public park system around offering a total 28 miles of scenic trails. Many of these trails wander throughout the city, under bridges and along the banks of Gilliand Creek. The trails have numerous entrances that feed into several neighborhoods and loop around tree-shaded parks, playground and picnic areas. Many of the trails are concrete surface making it easy and enjoyable for joggers and bike riding. On any given day, your bound to see all sorts of activity here with a basketball court, sand vollyball, two plays cape areas and several picnic & barbeque pit locations. We often walk our dogs and ride our bikes along these trails and find that it's a great alternative to the busier Town Lake trails. Children love to play in the shallow areas of the Gill...

Today marks 7 years since the 911 tragedy. A day that we remember and honor those who died that September 11 and the many more who gave their life serving for our peace and freedom. Pflugerville has lost three of its own since that day and nine more dating back to World War I who died in war. Through the efforts of a group of citizens, The Pflugerville Fallen Warrior Committee was formed in 2004 to plan a way to memorialize those soldiers. Thanks to them and the many other citizens, $100,000 was raised to fund the project. As a result, a life-sized bronze sculpture honoring three generations of fallen Pflugerville warriors was dedicated on Veterans Day 2005. The sculpture, named The Fallen Warrior, stands proudly in Pfluger Park with the names of those eleven men engraved on a granite p...

It goes without saying that Pflugerville is a growing, energetic community. Once small and off the beaten path, the town experienced several growth spurts over the past three decades from a population of 664 in 1980 to 40.030 as of Jan 1, 2008. For people relocating to Pflugerville, the population growth has brought plenty of newer home communities to choose from. At my last recent count, there were 16 new homes subdivisions being developed here and now. The truth is, Pflugerville is full of wonderful neighborhoods - both new and old. One of my favorite established communities is a development composed of three adjoining neighborhoods built out during the 1980's thru mid 1990's - Saxony, Katymead and Willow Creek - consisting of about 971 homes in all. These three neighborhoods have ma...

By the summer of 2009, Lake Pflugerville is set to receive a number of improvements, to the tune of $800,000.  Included in the project will be a park on the north shore, gravel beach, pavilion, two covered and lighted picnic tables, a boat ramp, boat rentals and additional parking.  Yes, that is an actual picture of the lake to the right. Thankfully for those of us who pay taxes in this area, this money will not be coming from the city itself.  Instead, the funds will come from a number of sources, including the LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority), the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation, and local developers.  Lake Pflugerville is about five minutes from my house.  We actually spent this past Fourth of July there as a family, enjoying the huge and impressive fireworks show...

Got a dirty dog? The stylists at All God's Creatures are ready to give your pet a magical makeover. From bath and cut to trim and brush, they do it all. Located in the heart of downtown Pflugerville, All Gods Creatures is a small and friendly full-service pet grooming studio. Owner, Lisa Delgado, opened her dog doors shop 14 years ago and has been pampering pets ever since. And just as the Pflugerville population has grown more than double the size during that time, so has her pet clientele. Last October, Lisa relocated to her business to a larger space and has three other stylists with 38 combined years of pet grooming experience. "We have a long list of furry friends that have been coming to us for years, but we always welcome new friends" stylist Robbie tells me. "We have to earn th...

I noticed a few days ago that they began vertical construction (i.e. walls) for what appears to be the new Super Target within Stone Hill Town Center in Pflugerville.  Since I live about 1.5 miles from this soon-to-be shopping center, my wife and I are anxiously awaiting its grand opening.  I found the rendering on the left on the website for the developer, New Quest Properties. Currently, the only store completed and open is Home Depot, but it looks like that will probably change in the near future.  There is a free-standing retail building on the eastern edge of the (giant) parking lot.  From the developer's map, I believe that part of this will house a mattress store.  I guess there aren't any other mattress stores nearby - yet.  As a humorous aside, please feel free to read my opini...

I can honestly that I never get too excited about shopping for tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash and zucchini in our local supermarkets. But take me to a Farmer's Market and I'm like a little kid in a candy store. I love Farmer's Markets and I'm happy to see that Pflugerville now has one of our own thanks to some pretty fine local sponsors. I went to our Farmers Market last Tuesday and the truth is that you just can't trade the experience of chatting with people who grow their own food, bake their own breads, can their own jams, and create their own crafts. It was fun to see stands of fresh food, homemades and handmades, people waving and saying hello to those they know, and vendors talking to complete strangers - each has a unique story. Take for example, Larry & Pam Hill, purveyors ...

The smell of wonderful scents is your first introduction when you step into this charming shop. But it's the assortment of wonderful products that is most appealing. Leave plenty of time for browsing because the selection of merchandise deserves close attention. The store offers a unique and quality collection of crystal, china, stemware, linens, floral arrangements, jewelry, accessories and a array of other items for the home and any gift-giving occasion. Noteworthy of mention is the complete line of Tyler Candles, Bohemia Crystal and Le-Tee-Da Fragrance Lamp Collection. The husband-and-wife team of W.C. and Barbara Kolinek opened The Old Prague Market in 1995 as the result of a trip to their own heritage land in the Czech Republic and seeing the beautiful decor and art not common fou...

Where to make your new home is an important decision. And if you talk to residents living in Pflugerville Texas, they will likely cite outstanding schools, friendly folks, and affordable housing prices as primary reasons for picking Pflugerville as the community to call home. And like many cities, Pflugerville is being developed from its center outward with a unique blend of established neighborhoods alongside new developments. I finally experienced Dot's Place cuisine for the first time tonight, and I left happy.  We were looking for a place nearby to take our three children and my mother-in-law, Jackie, who is in a wheelchair now.  It turns out that Jackie had been there a good number of times before, so she was excited about the prospect of returning.  The original Dot's in north Austin burned down, and they moved to the new location on Heatherwilde Drive this past year.  I had heard good word-of-mouth about the food, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was even BETTER than I expected. The location is pretty plain, to be frank.  The decor is very basic inside.  They inhabit the former Mr. Gatti's location facing Pecan Street near the Sonic, and it appeared as though they kept all of the old furniture.  W...

In Pflugerville, along I-35, just north of Grand Avenue Parkway, sits Austin's Park (formerly Austin's Park and Pizza).  Although they still serve pizza, they changed the name awhile back.  I have taken our family there on a number of occasions to enjoy miniature golf, bumper boats, video games, and the batting cages.  They have two full mini golf courses, and they are suitably challenging and fun. There is also a go-cart track which I think I am too tall to try, along with laser tag, a rock climbing wall, and a tea cup ride, a la DisneyWorld.  Although my kids had a tough time with the miniature golf course the last time we tried it (lack of patience and fine motor skills, primarily), I think I may take them again soon, since it has been awhile.  The bumper boats are crazy-fun, and an ...

As a former resident of Steeds Crossing, and a current resident of nearby Blackhawk, I typically try to keep an eye on the property values in the area.  When I was first licensed in real estate almost 12 years ago, my business partner and I walked the neighborhood in order to meet my neighbors and to try to drum up some business.  We did it both when it was so cold that our noses were running, and when it was so hot that I still can't believe I wore a tie back then.  I guess I am just saying that Steeds Crossing will always hold a special place in my heart.  Currently, there are 4 homes available on the MLS in Steeds Crossing, with an average asking price of $140,450.  The average square footage for these homes is 1,668, for an average price per square foot of $84.20.  There are 3 home...

Before getting into real estate, I was a retail and restaurant manager for a few years after I graduated.  My first job out of college was as a rental car manager, then I worked at a local soup and salad restaurant for about two years, then at CompUSA as the customer service manager.  As a real estate agent and broker for the past twelve years, I have seen and solved MANY service issues. Tonight, I experienced what I believe to be the worst service on record at a restaurant just a few minutes from my home.  My children were frightened, and my wife and I were irate at being treated so badly. Camino Real Mexican Restaurant and Cantina on Highway 685 in Pflugerville has been officially removed from the Crouch family dining choices forever.  There is only one other local restaurant that I w...

Falcon Pointe is home to three on-site schools, all part of the highly acclaimed Pflugerville Independent School District. Currently, there are 32 new and resale homes available on the MLS in Falcon Pointe, with an average asking price of $263,876.  The average square footage for these homes is 2,970, for an average price per square foot of $90.43. As a six-year resident of the Blackhawk area and a 13-year resident of Pflugerville, I like to keep an eye on the market values here in the area.  When the toll roads opened about a year and a half ago, the prices started trending upward and they certainly have continued to appreciate, even in a slower market.  As a fellow homeowner, this stuff is important to me, too!  Currently, there are 17 resale homes available on the MLS in the Fairways, with an average asking price of $246,292.  The average square footage for these homes is 2,638, for an average price per square foot of $94.25.  The number of homes is quite a few more than normal right now - last quarter there were just 6 on the market when I ran these numbers. Presently, there are 2 homes under contract in the subdivision, with ...
