SUNDAY BLESSINGS ~ ON THE BACK OF A HORSE Sometimes the best blessings are those simple, unexpected adventures in life.  Today I was able to ride on 3,000 beautiful acres in Montgomery, Texas.  Sitting atop a horse is the only way to truly see the land.  It was the perfect day with blue skies and temperatures in the 70's.  i also was able to see some old friends and catch up on their lives.  What a wonderful blessing while riding a magnificent horse.  I am truly blessed.  Hope you all have a super blessed week coming up!

Yep that is what my buyer had to walk across the street and say to his new neighbor. Hi I'm your new neighbor and I haven't even moved into my new house across from you yet. But guess what my lovely wife did. Yep that right she ran over your mailbox with our truck. Yep knocked it right over cleaner than a whistle. Yep that's it over there lying on the ground. Aren't you glad I moved in across the street from you? Yes it is a true story. My buyer, one hour in the house, crash goes the neighbor's mail box. I love this business!! Oh by the way there is nothing and I mean nothing within 400 yards of the mailbox. Rural acreage setting. Have a great day!! Ron www.lakeconroegroup.com www.ronwickes.com

If you have not treated yourself to a visit to Marvelous Montgomery Texas, this weekend would be a great time to correct that deficiency!   This place will make you feel that the Victorian era has come back for a visit.  In addition to a parade and walking tour of Victorian homes, there will be a series of events you can participate in.     Be assured that the merchants will give you a warm welcome, and it should be a fun day of filling all the gift needs on your list.  From hand made gifts to a variety of tasty treats, Montgomery is a wonderland.   Montgomery is a blend of charm and history that will thrill your senses all day long.  Plan to come early and stay to see the beautifully decorated homes in the Historical District.

Have you ever noticed how fast paced our work is? Hours, days and weeks speed by.   Deadlines and pressures all around do not mean that we cannot treat ourselves to some regular decompression.   It is not laziness to program your life with some moments devoted to leisure.  It is in fact a prudent habit.   I believe that learning to slow down, may be one of the best things we can do for our overall health.  Time management is a genuine art form!   Today we took a day off for the first time this year.  We drove for a couple of hours to visit a friend.   Finding time to spend with those you love is a great treat.   On the way back home we stopped at a favorite lakefront coffee shop.  Watching the boats on the now mostly refilled lake was relaxing.   After seeing this same spot nearly dry ...

One of the crown jewels of the Northwest areas around Houston.   Lake Conroe was originally created as a thousands of acre feet of water source for the ever expanding Houston metropolis.   It then exploded exponentially as various neighborhoods evolved .  There are choices from mobiles to mansions on minuscule to magnificent land masses.   Wildlife here isn't limited to birds and fish, there are deer and various assorted land creatures that frequent the vast waters.   Over the years since its creation Lake Conroe has evolved.  It has so many Ammenities on so many levels.   The developments include fine dining, casual dining, shopping of all kinds and a diverse array of housing.   Forested areas still contain the native wildlife and of course the birds and fish congregate in and around t...

As we drove around Montgomery Texas a couple of days ago we happened upon a piece of local history.   This statue and placard are about a well loved goat!  Goat?  Doesn't everyone love them?   Having attempted to own two in the past, I am well aware that most are extremely hard headed, destructive and smelly!   None of those facts seemed to deter the citizens of Montgomery from taking this goat to raise.   There is lots of local color in this small town.  The parks and the antique district are worthy of lots of time.  That alone gives credence to the idea that long ago the residents would spend time caring for a homeless goat.   The originator of the Texas Flag was also a resident of Montgomery.  From this short study of the history of this tenured Texas town one could draw the conclus...

Last year we had an extreme drought in the Spring-Tomball-Magnolia area which also of course affected Lake Conroe.  We keep our sailboat at Lake Conroe which is about a 35 minute drive for us.  We have a Catalina 22 with a retractable keel so keep it on dry land on the trailer.   As you can see from the pictures those people who were not so lucky to be able to trailer their boats had them sitting on dry land for most of the winter.  Water was being taken out of Lake Conroe to flow in to Lake Houston and at one point the lake was 8 foot down.  As sad as our lake looked it was built as a back up water supply for the city of Houston.  Thank goodness the water was there for them. These drought pictures were taken at what was supposed to be our last regatta for the season, Toys for Tots whic...

Is a Realtors'® profession Real Estate or Education? The answer is BOTH. Part, a large part, is the educational process of the customers and clients. To define the positions of Realtors®, and the insignia ®, one of the main duties would be to educate and watch the backs of the buyers. When a Realtor® receives a phone call or email contact from a person looking for a property, what should they do? Should they help the potential client learn about the business? Are Realtors® teaching them what they need to know?Should the agent say, "sure, I'll show you" or should you say, "May we discuss what it takes to purchase a home?"Which statement is the right way to go? There is no need to answer. Great agents know the answer. They could run and show the home to whomever chooses to want to see it ...

Just imagine the thought process of the average water bird when confronted with the reality that the water in the lake is going away at astounding speed!  For us as humans it is an inconvenience at this point.  To sit and watch the ripples and rapids is no longer entertaining since the water is so low at this point. For the birds it means that a source of food as well as a place to swim or fly to  has been removed.Today we watched a couple offing legged water dwellers as they made do with what they have.  A duck bravely swims at the base of a boat slip.  One has to wonder if he is stubbing his webs on the bottom. The Lake continues to recede. We are told that it is 13 feet shallower than it was about a year ago.Nothing should ever be taken for granted!

In this challenging economy with its ever shrinking job availability,  we are constantly amused at the ever present creativity shown by business owners.Along hwy 105 between Montgomery and Conroe stands this  brave advertising icon. There is a Marble Slab Ice cream establishment in the strip center behind this display.  We are guessing that one probably relates to another. We could not help but chuckle at the sight of the animated ice cream cone cavorting on the roadside.  It did not however inspire us to go order an ice cream.  Perhaps it was simply due to the cold wind or the less than ice cream like temperatures.Wonder if they are doing market studies to track the effectiveness of the advertising?  Wonder how we can do something similar to boost our visibility!

ActiveRain you make me laugh! Your Google Juice Tickles Me!It's been a very long week...month...and so on! This last week though has been a bear. I have been missing my blogging and my friends and my contests and my points and of course, last but not least, MY GOOGLE JUICE! Today I was dealing with yet another hitch in my "getalong" and I received a phone call. The lady on the other end of the line asked the question, "Are we having the Montgomery Trade Days" tomorrow? ( I AM LAUGHING TO MYSELF) as it clicked right away why she was calling! My immediate question to her was, "did you find me on Google?" and her answer was "yes!"  You see, I had written Localism Posts during the September Challenge each and every day. Deborah Byron had a contest for Localism Postings for the month of Septe...

The pictures above were taken Labor Day weekend. I was going to post them right away but then the wild fires started and after that the lake issue seemed trivial. Now that the fires are over I am back to posting about Lake Conroe. Lake Conroe is a back up water supply for Houston and with the severe drought we have been in they have had to start taking water out of Lake Conroe. It is so sad to see the lake being depleted but at the same time I understand why it has to be done. If you have followed my blog you know that we are in two active sail boat clubs on the lake. We were out at the lake Labor day weekend and it looked like a ghost lake. Typically you would see several sailboats and a lot of motorboats out on the water. We saw maybe three motorboats, a couple of jet skis and NO sai...
