I did a little bit of community service today, but it really didn't feel like work at all. I took off my Realtor hat for a few hours to serve as a judge in the journalism contest at Manvel High School's UIL academic meet. I was a journalism teacher for many years, and spent more than my fair share of weekends hauling kids around the state to academic competitions, serving as a judge when needed, and coordinating UIL events for Alvin ISD. So I was definitely in familiar territory today.  The student entries were really good! It was hard to pick a winner in many instances, and I could tell that the teachers had done an awesome job teaching their students about news writing, feature writing, editorial writing and headline writing.
