Back in December of 2006, Harris county released new flood plain maps.  Many properties in the Houston real estate market that weren't in a flood plain were now classified to be in a flood plain, therefor making it mandatory that the homeowners carry flood insurance. When the maps were released, new homeowners in the new flood plain boundaries were allowed 6 months to obtain flood insurance at non-flood plain rates. The current deadline is June 18, 2008. Here were are in May, 2007, and this deadline is quickly approaching! If your home is located within the new flood plain boundaries, be sure to take advantage of the cheaper flood insurance offered by the National Flood Insurance Program.   My friend Paula Metzler from Tomball TX and her 15 year old son Billy recently finished the Houston to Austin BP MS 150.  It is a two day cycling ride from Houston to Austin that raises funds to help people living with MS.  This years event was held from April 21-22 2007.  Approximately 13,000 riders rode in this 180 mile 2 day event.  They rode 100 miles the first day and 80 miles the second.  Paula told me that she starts preparing for the ride in October.  The first day they rode 6 to 8 hours and the second day around 6 hours. What an achievement! The goal this year is to raise 12 million dollars and that is from this event only.  With the money that has already been turned in they are at 9 million or 75% of their goal and they have until September for all the pledges to be turned ...

2007 has already been an amazing year in making strides on Environmental Issues.  Environmental Conservation and Awareness is becoming Top Of Mind even to people who have rejected the ideas in the past.I read an article this morning that really gives great insight as to what our future, not so distant, holds for us. I must say, if I had to hand out an award, it would be to this guy!  I will highlight the main points and share the article at the end.The first line says "Could pond scum solve the world's energy and warming crises?" It discusses how Professor Fu with the University of Hawaii has developed strains of Cyanobacteria (found in pond scum) that grow on carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.  The KICKER-it produces ETHANOL as a waste product!
