Homes for Sale in the Tanglewood Neighborhood, Houston TX   Why Do People Live Here? William Giddings Farrington developed Tanglewood beginning in the 1930s. Tanglewood opened in 1949. Initially,  Tanglewood started out with just 32 lots on this coastal prairie literally with no trees.  The developer insured the neighborhood would be full of trees and the prairie would be no more. Tanglewood - One of Houston's most prestigious neighborhoods, Tanglewood is Located just outside the 610 Loop about 8 miles from Downtown Houston. Tanglewood opened in the summer of 1949 and was named for the book Tanglewood Tales, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The developer came from a part of the country with hills, so he curved the streets and landscaped to create interest. Big lots, typically 1/4-acre to 3/4-acre, are in keeping with his plan for an upscale community. Residents often stroll along the trail at the Tanglewood Boulevard median, which is lined with live oaks and crape myrtles. Tanglewood has always been an extremely popular area because of its location in the heart of Galleria area, close to downtown and surrounded in part by Houston Country Club.
