Picture this:  Friday afternoon I was getting ready to leave the house and realized I had missed THREE phone calls while packing the car... from my broker.  OH NO!  I was so concerned... what does he need?  What's wrong?  Why would he have called me 3 times in a row and not left a message?  I quickly dialed his number, not quite sure what the fire was (but assuming it was a "fire").  The conversation was fantastic! So I'm a music fan.  I love most types of music (although Country is low on the list).  I heard on the news tonight that Gerry Rafferty passed away.  He wrote the famous "Baker Street".   I recently read that you should blog about more than just work... that you should blog about yourself so that your readers can get to know you better.  I'm not sure if I agree or not.  As a matter of fact, I haven't followed any of my friend's blogs because I always thought they were boring and pointless (blush!).  However, I'll blog about my love for music. Farming.... I've heard really good things about it.  In my most recent GRI (Graduate Realtor Institute) I had an instructor suggest the following method: Farm your neighbordhood only. Start with your street - do mailers every three weeks. After 3 mailers - door knock.  REPEAT After 6 months you've successfully established relationships with that street as the "neighborhood expert",  move to the street behind you and start the process over.   I think it's a pretty good plan.  Here's the problem:  I live in the country on 63 acres.  The neighbor to the left is a good friend and knows I'm the neighborhood expert.  (As Bugs Bunny said:  Ha ha... it is to laugh).  The neighbors to the right are, shall we say, quiet?  (County cemetary).  So how do I farm the area around me (now is the appropr... 12/30/2010

If you haven't heard, the South Texas Commercial Association of Realtors is a new "overlay" Board of Realtors that is coming in January 2011. If you're wondering how this can benefit you, stick with me for a minute... I work for a Broker who has an office in Bexar County (San Antonio), but also have the luxury of working wherever I want.  I live in Medina County (Hondo, Castroville, Lytle, Devine) and hope to expand my business there.  However, if you work in the County, then you know that not all of the agents in the "outskirts" subscribe to the local Board of Realtors. Recently I was taking GRI-Finance and the instructor was telling us that, as Realtors, "we're all on the same side".  Her point was to emphasize that we should stick together... don't talk negatively about your fellow Realtor! I have to admit, I've been tempted a few times... there are things that other Realtors do that I question (like all those blanks you left in the contract!).  But then, it occurred to me:  I bet there are some things that I'm doing that is making them crazy too.  And as I begin this journey into blogging and social-networking, I'm reminded that you all really ARE on my side.  I read your blogs and am continually impressed with your professionalism and willingness to help your fellow Realtors.  And my great hope is that when I become a "seasoned" agent I, too, can r... 12/09/2010
