Beachside Village Galveston is a great new Galveston community focused on the pedestrian. It boasts walking trails, community area, close by shopping, and many dune walkovers to the beach. The architecture is riminiscent of Florida's pastel colored beach homes. All the homes have metal roofs and custom features. Prices range from the 500's to 1 million+, and square footages run from 2000 to 4000+ sqft. This is going to be a great place to enjoy Galveston's long summers and endless beaches! Don't miss out! galveston Real Estate

I have been posting about Galveston real estate news for quite a while but I have not promoted it too much. So I wanted to change that... I have a monthly news letter that talks about real estate in general but also goes into detail about Galveston. It is a little Galveston real estate update. It also shows a few market reports for the areas around Galveston. Check it out!

Ryson said "thanks" with a fun client appreciation party celebrating out clients and a great 2007. Even though it was cold and raining we had a good turn out and our staff got to put some faces with names. We celebrated with good food, some fun drinks, and a few small tokens of appreciation. With the office decorated and the mood celebratory we raised a toast to the new year!

On your next vacation or trip to Galveston Island, you should make it a point to visit the Galveston Island State Park. With activities like fishing, nature walks, swimming, camping and boating there is sure to be something you will enjoy about the park. You could take a hike and visit the interpretive center, or spend a day on the beach fishing in the surf or swimming. The park itself is around 4000 acres mostly beach front or wetland, which makes this a prime location for many of the species of wild animal that are still on the island. Webb and Yankee Had Different Solutions to the Bank's MoveBy Dallas Realtor Bill CherryIt may be common place today, but 40 years ago when Galveston, Texas' Moody National Bank wanted to move into a modern facility, it was considered almost an act of heresy to leave the building where a bank had been founded for new quarters.Something about the bank not looking stable to the customers. So trying to find executives and labor and law enforcement who had ever moved a bank wasn't an easy task, even if the move was to be no more than a block away.  This one was to take place on a Friday night after the bank closed, president Carey Mayfield reasoning that the bank in its new facilities could certainly be up and running by the following Monday morning."Good lord, we're only moving around the co...

I was working with my clients today hoping to seal the deal on a beachfront house when they brought up a great source of pride for me. They said "Galveston has a lot to offer!", and they are right. This couple is from Atlanta and formerly owned in Hilton Head beach. So, for them to say Galveston is wonderful and the beaches are clean was amazing to me. Prices, they said, in Hilton head were in the $2-$3 million range for beachfront. Here however the most expensive home they looked at was under $700,000 and that was for a new 4 bedroom beachfront home. The part I was most excited about was the way they loved the things to do in Galveston. They had visited Moody Gardens for 2 days; they were headed to the Schlitterbahn water park, and had shopped the strand.  And they loved the beach... T...

Every year Galveston draws millions of visitors to many different events. One of the largest gatherings occurs every year in late January to early February, Mardi Gras. People from all over come to participate in the festivities Mardi Gras has to offer. The festivities go on for eleven days, ending on “Fat Tuesday.” Though it may seem like a long time there is more than enough to stay busy. Festivities range from bands, to parties, and of course, the parades. Every night there is a Galveston Mardi Gras parade hosted by a different Krewe. For those concerned with bringing small children to the nightly activities, day time activities are a great way to keep them involved. This year’s activities will begin on January 25, 2008 and continue through February 5, 2008. Make sure to book early i...

Ducky Wucky Was Santa to Crazy Frank, Pee Wee, Dirty Gertie and the Rest By Dallas Realtor Bill CherryI may have told you this story before.  It's one that Christie "The Beachcomber" Mitchell told me long ago. It happened one Christmas Eve about 10 years after the war.<==Big Band Leader Buddy Kirk with The BeachcomberThere was a fellow from a good Catholic family who had two talents. One was shoplifting and the other was picking pockets. The downtown merchants referred to him as Gonif, a Yiddish word that means "thief." The night people called him as Ducky Wucky. Now I can't exactly lay my hands on one distinguishing feature that made him resemble a duck, but there was no doubt. The guy looked like a duck.A lot of people made their living off the streets back then. People like dirty lit...

Summer in Texas is almost year round, which makes it easy to book vacations at almost any time. One of the vacation hot-spots in Texas is Galveston Island. Many folks come here to enjoy the beach, the fishing, or the local attractions like Schlitterbahn, Moody Gardens, and The Strand. With all thers is to do, there is very little time to be bored. Many people choose to book condo's or beach houses on the island, which makes for an even better time.     With a beach house or a condo, not only is there more room to spread out, but there are also kitchens. A feature that many hotels and motels do not offer. The kitchens are more convenient because many people like to get together and make a nice family meal. Because, lets face it, it gets expensive to eat out every night.      Beach houses...

SLICK THE SHOESHINE MAN, MR. SAM AND CHRISTMAS EVEN 1949By Dallas Realtor Bill CherryNormally Slick the shoeshine man carried 78 RPM records of black artists, the ones that Mrs. Evelyn Stein at the Melody Record Shop around the corner didn't.But for some reason it was Christmas, and he was pushing a new song written and sung by a white cowboy film star, Gene Autry.  It was "Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer." And it was the Christmas season of 1949, and that song was on its way to becoming the first tune to ever reach the platinum benchmark in sales, even bigger than Bing Crosby's "White Christmas."The tiny shoeshine parlor was just behind Galveston's Interurban Queen Newsstand at the corner of 21st and Market Street, and it had been in business since the war years.  I have no idea how many...

This is the closest neighborhood to Galveston that has true beach homes on the sand. Sunny beach is a nice older neighborhood with some new homes and a few lots available. Over all it is about 25% full time owners, and 75% second home owners. The main road to sunny beach is also a beach access point and so the vacation rentals in this area get great exposure. The most notable feature of sunny beach is the horse rides that originate at a stable on the beach. Lots in this area start from about $50,000 and a small home can be purchased for under $150,000 Visit our website to learn more about galveston vacation rentals Sunny Beach Galveston Real Estate

Dallas Newspaperman McCoy Farqua Saw Safety Santa Claus Do His Best Work By Bill Cherry, Dallas RealtorAfter the Second World War, people started venturing away from home. That's when McCoy Farqua decided he'd take his first trip to Galveston. From all he'd heard, the island was far more laid back and less urban than Dallas where he lived. When the train got to the island's depot, McCoy rented a room at the Panama Hotel across the street, then went searching for the Galveston Daily News building. McCoy wanted to see and fix in his mind the place where Texas' oldest newspaper was published. After all, McCoy was in the newspaper business himself. He was with Dallas' afternoon paper, the "Times-Herald."Next door to the paper was one of Galveston's famous restaurants, Perusina's. He went ins...

Even though I'm a Dallas resident and business man now, most of my life was spent living in the Galveston-Houston area.  My real estate company had two offices in Galveston and one in the museum district of Houston. And from the age of fourteen, my avocation has been performing on radio and television.  I still do.  I found this script of a piece I did on TV's News-24 Houston on June 21, 2003, and I thought you would find it interesting. Bill Cherry's Memories -Sinatra Visits GalvestonPeople past 60 who lived or came to this island in the old days, love to tell the tales of when big-time stars headlined in Galveston. Night clubs like the Sui Jin and the Hollywood Dinner Club and the Balinese Room and the Studio Lounge booked entertainers like Fred Astaire and big bands like Harry James.M...

Enochenza and Margaratte Venza, came over from Gibellina, Sicily about 1900, and they opened a small grocery store in Beaumont where they also had a butcher shop. About 1905, Sam and Frances Tramonte and their son, Jasper Tramonte left Gibellina, came to America, and Sam and Jasper went to work for their friends from the Old Country, the Venzas. After they learned the butcher trade from the Venzas and enough English to get by, the Tramontes moved to Galveston, opened a butcher shop, and with the help of the black market, stevedores, and the business from loads of small Italian corner groceries that were sprinkled throughout the city and the county, they built a multi-million dollar meat processing business, High Grade Packing Co. With his new wealth, Sam sold out his interest in the busi...

THE TURF GRILL'S FAMOUS TURKEY MORNAY(Serves 4)Dallas Realtor Bill Cherrywww.billcherrybroker.com214 503-8563                                              THE STORYFor years and years, after I left Galveston for college, I frequently thought about the Turf Grill's Turkey Mornay. It cost about seventy-five cents back in 1958, as I was boarding the ferry for my trip to New Orleans and its Tulane University. Let me tell you, after a movie at the State or Martini, taking your date for the first time to the Turf for Turkey Mornay was the sure si...
