Sacred Heart Church, located in Galveston Texas is just breathtaking.  As a Galvestonian I have admired the beauty of this religious sanctuary all of my life.  The photo of this church speaks for itself.  Little else in needed when it comes to describing just how magnificent this landmark truly is.  Sacred Heart is a Catholic Parish.  The church was established on June 21, 1884 by Rt. Rev. Bishop Nicholas A. Gallagher.  He decided the East End of Galveston would become the Society of Jesus.  Reverend John F. O'Connor was given the task starting this parish.  With the help of Father Slevin Sacred Heart had its first mass the Sunday after July 15, 1884 (Father Slevin arrived on the Island July 15, 1984).  The land which would become Sacred Heart was donated by Michael B Menard.  The Menar...

The announcement came in last week's mail.  It was from the South Texas College of Law in Houston. On March 14, 2008, my life long friend, E. Douglas McLeod, was named the college's Dean for the Day.  That's quite an honor, but it's very definitely one that's properly placed and noted.<<=== E. DOUGLAS MC LEODI've written before about Doug along with my friends Victor, J.E. and Ward.  We've been a support team for a long time.  Far more than fifty years.  Here's that story. In real life Doug is the Director of Development for the billion dollar Moody (Charitable) Foundation.  And he's an officer and director of many of the insurance companies that are owned one way or the other by the Moody Family, all descendants of William L. Moody, Jr., who built a fortune in cotton, insurance, banking,...

Casa Del Mar condos have been a staple diet for Galveston visitors and buyers alike for over 20 years. The adored condo complex sits right on the beach at 61st and Seawall. The old cedar siding has been recently replaced with new siding and all of the balconies have been replaced. This was all courtesy of a 20,000 per unit assessment which has just been paid in full for most all owners. The units have dipped in price from a high of about 70k-130k to 50k-120k. The price depends on the floor and proximity to the beach. These low prices will land you a unit that can rent for between 6,000/yr and 12,000/yr. Ryson Real Estate currently has 4 units at casa del mar and all units have rented well. Next time your in town don't miss Casa Del Mar condos Galveston!

I just blogged about how wonderful the Centex owned Pointe West community is for Galveston, Texas.  It makes me a bit sad to report this but as a home builder I understand why Centex is in negotiations to sell part of their holdings.  The specific communities have not been named, yet The Galveston County Daily News is reporting that Pointe West is included.  We received this news via our live real estate news feed courtesy of Yahoo.  You can explore all your daily real estate needs by visiting our home page to view the live feed.  Thanks to www.Yahoo.com for their help informing our real estate community about what matters. Please view the article here.I have talked about the effects of our current recession before.  What is sad is how much this is effecting the work force in the New Ho...

I have to say that Pointe West is one of my favorite new communities in the Galveston, Texas real estate market. I say this as a person who has lived in Galveston since birth.  We have never had a development quite like this.  This is what makes Galveston, Texas the up and coming island to explore.  My family has had the privilege to fish and explore some of the best beaches in America.  My husband was active in the Southern Kingfish association which allowed him to explore the entire Gulf Coast.  We have built homes all over the West Coast, spending time in Venice, Huntington, and San Diego.  Galveston is FIANALLY starting to understand that we can strive to be what the above cities got right years ago.  Pointe West has helped us make a huge push towards becoming on of the best beach a...

Pointe West Galveston stretches across more than a thousand acres on the western tip of Galveston Island. It is the Islands only resort style community on such a grand scale. Pointe West features a Private Beach Club and a multitude of destination resort amenities. Pointe West's offerings include; custom homesites, elegant villas (condos), and charming beach cottages. You choose your locale, on the Gulf side for oceanfront fun or on the bay for a serene natural setting. Galveston has taken resort style living to a whole new level. There are more than 3 miles of bay front and beaches. This community was most certainly built with active lifestyles in mind. There are lagoons for kayaking and canoeing, several parks, a bayside pool club, and a marina, which keeps natural habitats intact, is...

I really enjoy getting to know Galveston and one of my personal favorites is Playa San Luis. The neighborhood has a lot to offer and is tucked away on Galveston's west beach. The neighborhood offers a pool, walk under from the pool side of FM 3005 to the beach side, and multiple dune walkovers. The beaches are patrolled by Galveston county sheriffs and vehicles are not allowed. The sands are expansive along with the dunes. In current reports Playa San Luis beaches are accreting rather then eroding. The layout of the neighborhood is ingenious allowing every home to have a beach view.

Spring is a huge time of year for Galveston, Texas.  This marks the beginning of life on the island as business owners know it.  Our community starts to buzz with new visitors as the beach becomes more and more welcoming.  Mood Gardens sees the parking lot fill with excited newcomers who want to lean more about marine life and rain forests.  The Strand gets more and more shoppers as the cruise lines get even busier. The real estate market is very seasonal in Galveston.  Property owners wait till Spring/ Summer to list their homes.  Buyers start to look once the sun warms the horizon past 75 degrees.  It is just no fun to shop for beautiful beach property in the dead of winter.  Mush better when the sun is shining and the gulf breeze is blowing.  If you are interested in listing your prop...
