How to track itWeb searches on "track hurricane alex" and "tropical storm tracker" are both through the roof. The best way to follow Alex is by checking in with the National Hurricane Center.                                                              We have all seen what a storm or hurricane can do. Wind and water coming on shore can be quite damaging. We saw this evening where folks down along South Padre are getting ready for the first storm soon to be hurricane that is approaching. It has not yet been a designated hurricane. Here in the Texas Hill Country we will probably get some rains, which we got a little last night and a cell this afternoon. Drive safely and don't take chances where there are known high water crossings. Just like New Braunfels TX experienced two weeks ago whe...

I don't ever go by a Garage Sale sign without stopping; just something about the hunt for a good bargain. A couple weeks ago I found two items I brought home, the little table in the back seat and the chair in the trunk of my taurus. Of course I could not put the truck lid down so I used a rope I carry just in case...... you get the idea. I'll make it fit. Here is the before and after. The little table cost me #1.00 and the chair $2.50. Of course I had the perfect place; the little table for my printer with two extra shelves and the chair well for pretty in my office. Please notice everyone talks about going green so I followed the green thing. Carl wasn't happy had first, wanted to know why I hauled that junk home. However, he is trying to talk me out of the little table that I have my...

www.poolsafety.gov IMPORTANT! I'll repeat.....IMPORTANT   Swimming Pool and Spa Safety Starts with You! Residential swimming pools and spas is a favorite activity for children and adults all over the country. Whether enjoying pool time with family and friends, exercising, playing water sports, or learning to swim, everyone needs to be mindful of the potential for incidents and drownings in pools and spas. Few people think of the hidden dangers from drain or suction entrapments. Drains with broken, missing, or faulty covers can entrap hair, the body, limbs, jewelry and clothing, or cause disembowelment/evisceration. Safety TipsSupervise children at all times around pools and spas. Adults should keep a constant eye on all kids in the water. Emphasize the need for constant supervision to b...

Do you know where the electrical box is located? Do you know how to find the furnace reset button? Do you know where the main water cut-off value is located? Do you know where the septic is located? Do you know and have you planned a fire escape route? Do you have appropriate and important phone numbers posted for every family member to loca...

On Saturday, May 8, 2010Feeding AmericaThis year Stamp Out Hunger, the nation's largest single-day food drive, will look to surpass one billion pounds of food collected since its inception in 1993.  Last year, letter carriers across the country collected a record total of more than 73.4 million pounds of food. But with hunger impacting 49.1 million Americans, including 16.7 million children, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's annual study measuring food security in the United States; help is needed now more than ever before. In these difficult times it's important for Americans to rally behind causes like the Letter Carriers Food Drive to help their neighbors struggling with hunger. Do you care enough to attend the home inspection? Thought Provoker by Carl Winters - Localism Blog May 1, 2010, New Braunfels and Canyon Lake Texas Why attend the home inspection? Simple and Sweet...There is no substitute to actually being present at the inspection.  If you can possibly attend the inspection the inspector can verbally point out certain things that you may miss on the written report. Also, if you have questions he is there to answer these questions. When you attend the inspection, you can ask questions, and become more familiar with the home. You will be able to gain greater confidence in your buying decision. This home is where you will live, eat, sleep, watch television, listen to music, spend family time for a very long time. It is well worth taking time to spend with...

Quandary: When was the last time you heard this word? When you think about it, this is a very powerful word. Why? I think this is how some folks are feeling when it comes to making a decision.  Should I sell? Should I buy? Should I build? Should I take that new job? Should I quit my job? Should I buy that new car? Should I plan a family vacation.   Quandary: How can you make decision when you are not sure what is going to happen in the future. Or you know nothing about investing in home ownership. Sitting in a restaurant over the weekend we could hear a couple behind us having a discussion regarding the economy. They were definitely in a Quandary. From what we could gather (even though we tried to tune them out) they were trying to decide if they wanted to sell and move into a larger ho...
