Monday night is a great time to enjoy the great bar-b-que and terrific sound of blue grass at J.Codys on Old College Road.  This has become a favorite of many in the Brazos Valley and several locals businessmen and women have teamed up to form a great little blue grass group.  The food at J.Codys is great and if you don't like bar-b-que, they offer some great fish selections and hamburgers.Monday proves to be a good time to take in a movie.  For some reason, the first part of the week is not a time that most people choose to go to the show.  As a result, you don't have to wait in line, and can find great seats.

Howdy Folks! I am kind of new to blogging, but I thought I would give it a whirl...later tonight I am going to be playing my guitar at a wedding rehearsal.  Because tomorrow I am playing Pachelbel's canon in D for a wedding which is at St. Mary's in College Station...should be fun!  For those of you who know what classical style guitar sounds like, you can imagine the beautiful, lush tones that will tickle people's ears tomorrow!  Classical guitar is such a passion for me! Regards,Jonathan Cook"The Classical Realtor"

Antiques?  yes.  Restaurants?  yes.  Historic buildings?  yes.  BUT, offices with fingerprint analysis?  static proof raised flooring?  fiber trunk running down the middle of downtown Bryan?  These are exciting times in downtown Bryan, Texas.  Bryan is experiencing a revival similar to the likes of Cotton Mather and Jonathan Edwards in early Puritan America.  The only difference is the resourceful minds of Managed Network Solutions are using electronic data, bandwidth, world wide web and a computer server.  Mather and Edwards utilized the Bible.  As enthusiasm spreads, new businesses evolve into more family friendly areas like those around Heritage Park.  Families gather on Sunday afternoons to enjoy sunshine and each other.  Children of all ages gather to celebrate life.  There's fun t...

It's always been a question of mine as to why pools haven't taken off here at the same rate that they did when I lived in Houston.  I've been here nine years now and, I believe, I've answered my question.  Our typical ages for homeownership are very different than the rest of the United States are.  We, basically, have three groups.  We have the folks coming back here for retirement.  Mostly they don't want pools.  For them it's a liability. We have the college crowd. (whether graduate student, professor, associate professor, etc..)  These folks have a wealth of opportunity at their fingertips.  Want a great pool?  The rec center isn't too far away.  Many of these people also take the opportunity to travel during the summer as well.  The maintenance issue would come into play heavily.Brya...

Bryan City Engineers recently revamped outdated floodplain maps.  FEMA requires flood maps to be revised periodically.  Approximately 10% of Bryan (around 2700 acres) now lies in floodplain.  180 homeowners were notified that their homes lie within the 100 year floodplain, the area that has a 1% or better chance of being flooded each year. Help is on the way for residents newly identified as living in the floodplain as Bryan is part of a FEMA incentive program that will give 5% discounts for flood insurance.Though I don't know of anyone happy about being identified as in the floodplain, these residents can sleep a  bit better at night knowing that they are protected in case of flooding.  Property values could be affected moderately, but a house that lies in the floodplain that never has...

The city of Bryan was recognized in 2001 for having the top parks and recreation system in Texas compared with citys of it's size (50K to 100K).  Not content to leave this as the status quo Bryan went further and invested another 3.5 million in it's beautiful Henderson Park in 2004.  This added 30 acres of beautiful family oriented entertainment to Bryan including five soccer fields, a covered pavilion, sand volleyball, 10 picnic pads, a skateboard park, walking trail, swimming pool and four baseball fields.  The pool alone is a work of art.  Milam Elementary jumpstarted a special project with each student designing a mosaic tile  to add to the building.  Creating a sense of community is where it's at and Bryan certainly recognizes that!Bryan now sports 43 parks with a total of 750 acre...

Downtown Bryan, once just a shell of it's former self with decrepit buildings and deserted streets, is becoming a hot spot once again!  More than twenty buildings have now been renovated with many more in the works.  Currently we have ten restaurants in downtown Bryan offering anything from gourmet food (Madden's Casual Gourmet) to Mr. G's Pizzeria and the trendy Revolution Cafe and Bar.  Some shops never left including the longstanding Bryan tradition Parker-Astin Hardware, established in 1911 and the Medical Center Pharmacy with it's fifty plus years of serving the Bryan market. The La Salle hotel has been restored to it's former glory with 55 beautiful rooms, many sporting jacuzzi tubs and a sense of style unmatched in todays more generic inns.  The La Salle reopened six years ago aft...

The last performance of Fiddler on the Roof is taking place March 29th at 2 pm.  This long standing favorite is being played by everyones favorite, The Theatre Company.  The theatre is located at the newly remodeled Tejas Center off Villa Maria. The Theatre Company is always a hit around here!  Past favorites of mine have been Jesus Christ Superstar, Annie Get Your Gun, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Aida.  Tickets are $7.50 and should be bought in advance as this is an extremely popular attraction.  Sweet Charity is the next production starting June 1st.
