ColoVista is a development just outside of Bastrop is one of the best kept secrets in Texas I think.  Once a private estate, the original Texas ranch house is now a drop dead gorgeous club house with an infinity pool and there is a beautiful golf course that wanders thru the original estate.  Beautiful custom homes line the roads and the golf course in the pines and down into the prairie by the Colorado River.  I live within 2 miles of Colo Vista, one of the reasons we bought our ranch!  If you are looking for a Realtor to help you with real estate in Colo Vista and neighboring Pine Forest please give me a call.

Tahitian Village is a development just outside of Bastrop on Highway 71.  The entry in to Tahitian Village is right at the Loop/95/21 light and is pretty well marked - Tahitian Drive.  There are light restrictions in the subdivision and no mfg. homes are allowed.  Most of the roads are paved and most of the lots have electric, water, sewer, and phone service to the lot lines.  But some do not and most recently there have been some restrictions placed on the necessary size of lots to be developed with septic systems.  If you would like more information on Tahitian Village homes or land for sale please contact me.

There s a really lovely river walk in Bastrop TX that meanders along the bank of the Colorado  river on the east side between the Highway 71 bridge Ferry Park -  and the Loop 230 bridge and Fisherman's Park in to town.  You can park and access the river walk either down behind the Wells Fargo Bank, or at either Park entry.  During the Christmas Holiday season there is a Light Parade that is fun to enjoy at night.  Click on this link if you would like more information on Bastrop TX real estate.

Every day I drive by some of the most beautiful old oak trees that have been growing along side Alum Creek  TX for more years than I have been on this planet!  These trees are so stately looking from the road I have to suppress the urge to stop the car, hop the fence, and to get a closer look.  One of the trees has what we used to  called a hobbit hole when I was a child. Looking at this particular oak I realize that my imagination is still alive and kicking and given time could be as vivid as it was back then.    Texas has some magnificent and very historic oak trees through out the state.  They say the best way for a big tree to survive in Texas is to have something important happen within close proximity to it.  There are a few large oaks that are "in the road" trees that have been s...

Update - Scooters has closed.  Bastrop does have a number of other wonderful spots to grab a cup of coffee like Maxine's on Main Street, and Coffee Dog and Starbucks up near Hwy 71.   If you are in Bastrop Texas for any reason you and you are looking for a place to grab a cup of coffee and check your email then you should stop by Scooters on Chestnut Street.  A hub of community activity as well as a free wifi spot, Scooters makes one of the best Iced Latta Breves, in my estimation  which is my drink of choice when I am there working on my laptop, or if I am  running to an appt. and using the convenient drive thru.  They also have wonderful breakfast items such as the "Scrambler" and bakery items like scones, cookies, croissants, and.....oh my goodness....absolutely awesome brownies!  If...

My entry for the wildflower contest - Beautiful blooms along the highway in Bastrop County, Texas, THEY ARE WILD NOW!   Driving down Hwy 71 towards Smithville inBastrop CountyI had to pull over to share this with you all. Of course with spring here, the blue bonnets are out, but this is something that we have not seen in a few years. These loblolly pines are approx. forty to sixty feet tall. These vines have spread back into the trees off the highway and it encompasses about a half acre. It is amazing to stand in the trees and look up at all these flowers. They look very hearty but the flowers themselves are very delicate and they are very aromatic! They wont be out long so if you are in the area, which is just past the 95/Loop 150/Tahitian Drive and Hwy 71 corner, put on your flashers,...

Beautiful palomino horse eats his hay like I eat my Oreos, the middle first! This pictrure was taken in the Alum Creek area of Bastrop County Texas.  This is a Walking Horse one of many at The Pecan Grove.    I was driving by the Pecan Grove in Bastrop when I spotted this and it tickled me so much I had to make a U turn and go back for a picture to share with you all. The Pecan Grove is a fairly large pecan plantation that grows a number of different types of pecans annually sold in bulk and thru their small retail outlet on the plantation.  They also have some very nice minature horses and onkeys, and walking horses.

Riverside Grove Home Sales, Bastrop, TexasDespite the scares on TV, the market is holding strong in Riverside Grove.  Nearly one out of ten houses in the neighborhood sold in 2007.  The number of homes sold stayed the same from 2006 to 2007.  A total of 42 homes sold in the subdivision in 2007.  The average length of time on the market decreased for the entire neighborhood by four days from 2006 down to 2007.  Average sales price for the neighborhood increased by $2,068 from 2006 to 2007. There were only eight foreclosure properties in the neighborhood for 2007.To break this down even more, 10 of these homes were located in the Enclave part of the subdivision with four of these homes being 2-story and six were 1-story homes.  The homes in the Enclave had an average sales price of $151,7...

I woke up yesterday morning here in Bastrop County Texas  to see that spring sprang while I was sleeping!  Most all of my trees are budding!  Of course this morning those new buds will have a rude awakening as it is near freezing.  Central Texas in the spring time,  if you don't like the weather wait a few minutes, and keep your closet fully integrated with winter/spring/summer clothes! This is what my trees did while I was getting my snore on......... my red bud tree,   mesquite tree, oak tree, pear tree,   and few other trees I know nothing about other than they are gorgeous when they are in full foliage.  I can't wait! HAPPY SPRING TO ALL!

I stopped in my local feed store to purchase some bagged pelleted feed for my horses this week and was shocked that  the per bag price had increased by almost 1.00 per bag, across the board, not just one mfg.  When I asked the store manager he told me that feed prices to him were increasing at least .40 per bag per month.  Of course this is a small mom and pop store vs a large feed store chain ,so I get why the increase is passed on.  He told me that there is a shortage of corn due to the big ethanol push with vehicles, and a soy bean shortage.   I was shocked as I had not head anything about this on the news.  Has any body else heard or experienced feed prices going up?  Or was he just handing me a bag of what my horses produce after eating his feed?     My personal rain cloud: Laughte...

Located on Hwy 95 North just outside of downtown Bastrop, this vet's office is conveniently located.  They have provided our family with both small animal (our three dogs) and equine ( you don't want to know how many horses we have!!!) veterinary services.   The vets are: Jeff Schroeder, DVM, Darren Weiss, DVM, Sierra Guynn, DVM    The staff has been extremely helpful every time we have been in.  The lobby is clean and bright and they have a small retail area where you can find dog and cat food and other supplies as well as some small equine items (like wormer and granulex, etc.)   Their parking lot is large with plenty of parking for cars and truck/trailers.    They have a nice set up for horses with a large airy barn with a big breezeway, a big exam room, xray room, and other necessary...

About a week ago one of my mares found something sharp in our pasture at my paint horse ranch in Bastrop Texas.  It seems no matter how hard we work to horse proof the place they always find something to get in to.  The mare came up for feeding from the back 20 with a gaping would on her butt.   Large flap of skin and a hole.  It looked like she had caught herself on a t post ( we scoured the pasture and never found any indication of a tussle with the fence-line).  The wound looked to be a number of hours old.  By the time we got her to the vet the flap of skin had no blood flow to it and it would never reattach so the vet removed it.  The mare was given antibiotics, the wound was cleansed, and she was sent home to recover.  Care instructions were SMZ's "a broad spectrum antibiotic used...

This is my dog Duke.  He was a rescue in Colorado.  Starving and with the worst case of worms that the vets had ever seen.  My husband said no, absolutely not, we are not keeping him.  Guess what folks, not only has he been with us thru two moves now, he sleeps on our bed inbetween us!  One of the best dogs we have ever had the pleasure of living with!  If I go outside he goes outside, if I go upstairs he goes upstairs, if I go take a hot tub he goes and watches me, if I go ride one of my horses he comes along.  I kid my husband that I have had a surgical procedure....I have had an ADD A DUKE TO ME....get it???  Love ya DUKE!

There is a lot of activity in Bastrop these days.  Not only did we get a new RSC location but work has started on the new Burleson Crossing and a new apartment complex - Walnut Creek.  The contractor is still in the dirt moving stage of the new apartment complex but they are moving right along.  It has been a bit muddy these last few days with the much needed rain we have gotten.  Will keep you "posted" on how construction is proceeding.
