The employees of the Lexington TN City Water & Gas Departments are pretty amazing folks.  Why?? Because they constantly help those in need.  One example.  Instead of allowing the City to spend money for door prizes given away at their annual Christmas Party, they decided to donate the money to two local charities.  What an unselfish act!!!    We could all learn a lesson here. Think about the upcoming Inauguration.  What if the President-Elect made a decision.  Yes, a stand not to allow the spending of millions of dollars on this big party.  Why if he lead the change to donate the funds allocated to this function to a worthwhile charity or event.  Wouldn't that be a wonderful gesture to all of the Country. May your 2009 be filled with good health, wealth, and many, many blessings! Linda ...

For many weeks, most people have been taking a ‘wait and see' approach to life. We have waited to see what the economy is going to do~ paused to wait to see what the bailout package was going to be~ took a break to wait on Wall Street's recovery ~suspended all plans until the election was over~ Basically we've been on a hiatus from living our lives. Well Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time we got back to our regularly scheduled programs! No more ‘wait and see' it's time to get back in the game! If you pulled out your winter clothes and last year's pants are just a little too tight, then by all means go buy some new clothes. There are some great sales out there~ 30%, 40%, 50% off sales in many stores already and it's not even Christmas yet! If your car is falling apart, shop around for a new...

A couple of Fridays ago, my 18 year old daughter came home from college with one task in mind....VOTING!  When she got to the city limits sign, she called and said "Where do I go?" I told her I would meet her at the Henderson County Election Office on Natchez Trace and we would vote together.  As we entered we both took out our voter's registration cards and our ID's.  (Yes in Tennessee you DO have to legally exist and prove it in order to vote).    They gave her a demonstration on the voting machine and she was ready to go vote.  I had already cast my ballot and stood behind her while she voted (Ok yea I was trying to peek to see who she was voting for) and she promptly told me I was violating her voting rights LOL.  Then when the screen said she had completed casting her ballot, she t...

Many of us watch the news at night and here these tragic stories of abused and neglected children being taken from their home because  of something their parents did. We hear about kids in foster care being drag in and out of court and foster care only to be subjected to more abuse. We watch and it all tugs at our heart strings and wish their is something we could do to help these kids.....  You don't have to be a lawyer or a case worker or a judge.... You can Be a CASA volunteer.  First you call and do a basic application, a background check, and some references are checked. It take three weeks of training 3 nights a week... you learn the basics  how to write a court report how to interact with these kids, parents. Class starts at 5:00-8:00 and supper is there for you when you get ther...

ACTIVE RAIN! So tonight I will be discussing my no politics,no religion blog with Frank.  Wish me luck! All the Best! Kathy

Pricing.  How important it is!  Price it right and it will sell.  Well, good luck with that.  Depends on who you ask, right? Seller wants to put home on market at $350,000.  Two appraisals.  $75,000 difference.  So, the sellers ask for a third.  Would you believe, it's smack dab in the middle of the other two!!! Three different values, three different appraisers, and sellers who really want to sell their home. So if three licensed professionals can't get close to the same value,  what's a seller to do? Well, they call the local Realtor for a "Market Analysis".  With this information, the sellers now have four opinions to the value of their home.  With this example, it is sure easy to understand why we make so many pricing errors.   In today's market, pricing adjustments must be make tim...

Fair week comes to an end. What a great week!!! The weather was hot and humid. Thousands attended the fair this week and with just a few minor glitches, all was well. Food was great....thanks to the Resue Squad, VFW, Fire Department, Altruistic Club, and all the other great cooks for causes.  As far as business exhibits, Green Thumb Nursery was my favorite.  Such talent. Lexington Christian Church wins the prize for entertainment.  Andy Avery is an awesome singer and musician.  Enjoyed Wednesday night youth group. RE/MAX wins the team award.    Jamie Perkins, Kathy Fisher, Janice Johnson, Monica Downs, and Nick Mays donated a whole bunch of time and energy to make sure that every child had a balloon and every adult had a chance to win the 32" Flat Screen TV.  Congratulations to Steve Rh...

Most rural counties in West Tennessee still have a good old fashioned fair.  The whole bit...rides, ribbons for the best pies, cakes, jams, biscuits, and even the best looking cow or hog.  In the exhibit building at the fair, most businesses will have a booth with giveaways and contests. You must register to win and on the final night of the fair, all the winners are announced.  It's loads of fun and you see folks that only come out during fair week. My question to you.....we are looking for a great idea for our fair booth.....a game to play, or anything new or creative to make our booth stand out in a midst of hundreds.  Let's hear them!!!! Please join us in Lexington, TN. for the Henderson County Free Fair.  Lots of good food, fun, and prizes. Hope to see you there!!!!  Opening Night,...

Received a call from the local newspaper "Congratulating" me on my new listing, the Henderson County Courthouse.  How funny!! Sorry, folks but the sign thief was on the prowl and moved several signs around.  The only sign recovered was the one on the courthouse lawn.  Guess I should be thankful for that.  But I am very upset.  This has been going on for months now and I have spent thousands of dollars in replacement signs.  What a senseless waste of hard earned money.  But, you know, the sign thief has made a terrible mistake.  The courthouse has cameras.  Reminds me of those stupid thieves who perform unlawful acts knowing the surveillance cameras are running.  How ignorant.  With the help of the Police Department, sure hope to put an end to this little pranksters late night sign runs....

This week has been a week of some reflection for me.  You see, my youngest has started back to school, he's a high school sophomore and my oldest is preparing to go off to college next Wednesday.  I have been scurrying around for a couple of weeks getting things in order for everybody.  With most of the prep work now completed, I am faced with an emptying nest...  When I went back to work, I chose a career as a Realtor because I thought it would be "flexible".  What I quickly learned is that it's flexible all right...I get to work around everyone else's schedule.  Every buyer, every seller and there is little 'down' time.  I have said to my family many times, "Now ya'll know I have to work when the work is there".  And then I have discovered I work even harder when it's slow than I do w...

If you have read any of my previous posts you probably know that the Everett Horn Library here in Lexington is one of my favorite places.  It's an EXCELLENT library especially for a small town like Lexington.  BUT it just keeps getting better...today I passed by and the sign reads... "Congratulations on your Masters Dinah!"  WOW!  We have a librarian with a master's degree!  She could move on and do a great job with a larger, more prestigious library but she has chosen to stay right here and grow her local library.  I am SO grateful she does.  So a big thanks and CONGRATULATIONS to Dinah!  Check her out on the library's new website!
