Remember these? Go on, click on over, refresh your memory. I'll wait. Can I just say that this is officially the year of cookie hell.  Teensy little confession: when I wrote that last post, I was complaining about the whole thing but I was actually kinda proud of my little sweets. So what if it took a full 48 hours to achieve a not-so-dazzling array of 24 cookies? I thought these really were charming in their whimsy. That was the night before.         THIS was the morning after, worse than any hangover: Cracked foundation, door falling off it's hinges, peeling paint - not to mention the roof! No inspector is his right mind would let anyone buy eat these houses. Did I mention that I. Don't. Bake? But just to prove that there really is a silver lining to every cloud...I now get to eat all...

The number of foreclosures for sale increased by nearly three dozen.  While foreclosures under contract also declined significantly. Again this can probably be traced to the fast approaching holiday. There's nothing worse than some ActiveRain goddess telling us what we all should be doing. Ppppffftttt. Last time I jump on some bandwagon. I've been baking. 'Nuff said. I'm not a baker. I like to cook. But a confectioner, I. Am. Not. Ever watch Top Chef and hear them whine and moan about how they aren't pastry chefs? That was kinda me the last couple of days. I made the mistake of reading a real estate blog where said blogger talked about how she used to bake a gingerbread house for each of her past clients. It eventually got to be too much and so she started making gingerbread cookies in the shape of houses.   I thought "Wow! What a great idea!" Mere moments later I was softening butter for Easy Cutout Sugar Cookies (a misnomer of a title designed to draw you in and later spit you out...

This is an excerpt from an actual published article from our local online news: Nick McCay reported the theft of his father's car - an expensive silver BMWZ3 roadster - from downtown. He said he had parked it at the 800 block of Cherry Street and it was no longer there.Officers soon spotted it at the 400 block of Walnut Street.Mr. McCay said he "must have had a bit more to drink" than he thought he had and he said he "was a moron for not checking and for freaking out and calling police."An officer said he agreed he was a moron and advised him to "have a dd (designated driver) next time rather than losing a $50,000 piece of equipment." Original post available here. What lessons can we take away from Mr. McCay's experience? A. Remember where you park B. Especially if it's your father's car...

Forbes.com has finally come the realization that I've been screaming talking about for a long time. Chattanooga is a great value for the money. Because of everything from real estate taxes, to commuting times, to housing values, Chattanooga is a lovely little town to hang your hat whether you're retired or gainfully employed. Forbes has named Chattanooga as 8th "Best Bang for your Buck" out of the top 100 metro areas in the US. So why am I mad at Forbes? I was digging it until I got to this travesty of reportage: "Cities from McAllen, Texas (No. 7), to Greenville, S.C (No. 20), and Chattanooga, Tenn. (No. 8), that have faced a host of economic problems, are now seeing a silver lining: Housing speculation stayed in check in these areas because there was little to draw buyers in the first...

Translation? This is good for sellers (less competition), but not as good for buyers (l...

The gourd looks pretty good too. Nothing like carving a pumpkin with a kid who has no idea why you are doing it Ignore the facial expression, there's no way that you could avoid enjoying something like carving punkins! I think he was just disappointed that it wasn't going to turn into pumpkin bread. His grandmother has spoiled him that way.

The Chattanooga Renaissance Oktoberfest was held this past weekend.Despite the threat of rain and the cool weather the turnout was good. Music, food, activities and fun times highlighted the event.
