Last weekend, we went to Devils Fork State Park Campground for a camping trip.  On Saturday we also went on a short hike to Station Cove Falls.. It was a great trip and I caught some shots of great sunrises and sunsets... This is just a short video of the trip.. hope you enjoy it. The campground sits on Lake Jocassee, a mountain spring-fed lake that is 7500 acres in size. Devils Fork State Park is in northwestern South Carolina on the eastern edge of the Sumter National Forest. It is located three miles off of SC 11, the Cherokee Scenic Highway, near tiny Salem, South Carolina.     Devils Fork State Park Campground Trip 2014

Are you one of those people that appreciates the beauty of nature? Do you enjoy looking out your window and seeing the mountains? Does the thought of cool mountain breezes sound food to you? Then maybe you may want to look at homes for sale in Salem South Carolina. Nestled in the mountains of Upstate South Carolina in Oconee County, Salem is a wonderful are that has homes for every budget. However, there is a problem with looking for homes online. Most people don't want to be hounded by an agent after registering on some website. We understand that and don't blame people for feeling this way. I realize that you may be in the information gathering stage, and may not be ready to “open up” about who you are, or what your needs are at this time. This is perfectly okay and understandable. Ev...

When it comes time to list your home for sale, it may be difficult to choose which local agent to represent you.  Some people pick the agent with the most for sale signs in their community.  Some sellers go with the company with the most pages of advertising in the real estate magazines.  Some list with a friend or relative.  Some people prefer to work with strangers because they don't want to mix family or friendships with business.  And some list with a discount broker in the hopes of saving money on the commission.  Any of these choices might be the right one for you, if you get lucky.  However, there are some important things you should look for before you make that decision. 1.  Does the agent you are considering have a strong online presence?  The following are statistics from the...

When a person starts thinking about buying a house, they often start looking at copies of local real estate magazines, calling on For Sale by Owner (FSBO) properties, and calling the listing agents on houses that they drive by.  Potential buyers often don't know how the buying process works but they also don't want to commit to more than a ten second conversation on the phone to find out because they are "just looking".  This Blog will explain what you should be looking for before you start looking for a house - A Good Buyer's Representative. In South Carolina, a buyer has a right to his/her own representation in the purchase of a home.  This means that the buyer has someone working for them.  It requires a signed contract (yikes!) which forms a commitment (yikes!) between the buyer and...

The mountains in Upstate South Carolina are a beautiful area of peaceful forests, scenic lakes, rushing whitewater rapids and cascading waterfalls and friendly people. And nestled in the mountains of SC is the wonderful town of Salem, with views such as this picture I took below. Salem is a town located in Oconee County in Upstate South Carolina. Salem has existed as a community since before 1900, but was officially incorporated as a town in 1951. The population was 126 at the 2000 census and in 2007 was 131. It is pretty small since it covers only 0.8 square miles but actually refers to a larger area. It is a beautiful area that should never become crowded since so much of Oconee County is in the Sumter National Forest. But since Salem is only 2 hours from Atlanta and a short drive to ...

Whitewater Falls drops from North Carolina into South Carolina. This is the highest waterfalls in our area.  The tumbling and churning of the water helps to produce some of the cheapest electricity in the south east.  The falls tumble into the Jocassee Hydro station which is owned by Duke Energy.  Once the water leaves the hydro station it  flows into Lake Jocassee and then to Lake Keowee and on to Lake Hartwell, part of the Savannah River system.  Whitewater Falls one of 80 waterfalls in Oconee County. Most are on National Forest or state lands so they have good trails.  Whitewater falls has a paved trail that is accessible by wheel chair or scooter to the top of the falls.  The observation deck is about 200 feet below and then the trail the lower falls is another 45 minute hike.  So ...

It is a beautiful area that will never become too crowded since so much of Oconee County is in the Sumter National Forest. But since Salem is only 2 hours from Atlanta and a short drive to Greenville, it could be the perfect place to live. And Salem has a pleasant 4 season climate with mild summers and winters. Salem features mountain living in a quiet relaxed atmosphere, friendly neighbors PLUS property prices and taxes that remain lower than other similar areas in the more well known area of neighboring North Carolina and NE Georgia. If living in the mountains of Upstate SC sounds good to you, then ...
