The clear beaches in South Carolina are caused by a combination of factors, including calm weather, below-average rainfall, and the absence of major storms. Calm weather: When the weather is calm, there is less wave action, which means that less dirt, sand, and sediment are stirred up from the bottom of the ocean. This makes the water appear clearer. Below-average rainfall: Rainwater can also cloud the water, so below-average rainfall helps to keep the water clear. Absence of major storms: Major storms can churn up the water and stir up sediment, making the water cloudy. The absence of major storms in South Carolina in recent months has helped to keep the water clear. In addition to these factors, the geography of South Carolina's beaches also contributes to their clarity. The beaches a...

The Earth's warmest day on record was July 3, 2023. The average global temperature on that day was 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 degrees Fahrenheit). This broke the previous record of 16.92 degrees Celsius (62.44 degrees Fahrenheit), which was set on July 24, 2022, and August 14, 2016.The record-breaking temperatures were caused by a combination of factors, including a strong El Niño event, which is a climate pattern that causes warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. The Continental Congress actually voted for independence on July 2, 1776, but the Declaration of Independence wasn't actually signed until two days later, on July 4. The first fireworks display in celebration of Independence Day took place in Philadelphia in 1777. The Liberty Bell is tapped 13 times every July 4th in honor of the original 13 colonies. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two of the Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence, both died on July 4, 1826, on the 50th anniversary of the document's signing. Calvin Coolidge is the only U.S. president who was born on July 4th. Americans spend an estimated $1 billion on fireworks every year for the Fourth of July. The most popular food eaten on Independence Day is hot dogs. In fact, Americans eat an estimated 150 m...

I have been a real estate agent in Myrtle Beach for about 18 years. This week my wife and I were having a date day (lunch and movie). We were driving down a wide paved road and noticed a survey truck about 75 feet off the road in the grass. Both my wife and I saw the survey person fall to the ground. I turned the car around at the next intersection and I drove over to the parked truck and approached the person on the ground and ask if they were ok. This young man was covered in muck and was confused. My wife called 911 and after talking with this young man he shared that he was bitten by a Water Moccasin. I was able to secure his survey equipment that was laying by a ditch. It appeared he fell into a 5-6 ft ditch filled with water and was able to crawl up the ditch closer to his parked ...

A rip current is a strong, narrow current of water that flows away from the shore, perpendicular to the coastline. Rip currents are often mistaken for undertow, but they are not the same thing. Undertow is a downward current that can occur at any time, but it is not as strong as a rip current.Rip currents are caused by the interaction of waves and the seafloor. When waves break near the shore, they push water toward the land. This water then flows back out to sea through the weakest point in the sandbar, which is often a break in the sandbar or near a pier or jetty.Rip currents can be very dangerous, as they can sweep even the strongest swimmer out to sea. If you are caught in a rip current, do not panic. Instead, swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the current, then swim ba...
