  As a followup to my last blog about Hilton Head Airpot, one of our best community assets. I read an interesting article recenly in the Island Packet,  www.islandpacket.com/  that related some positive stats for this past summer.  The airport experiences the businest summer since 1999 this year with over 93,000 passengers flying into and out of our airpot between April and August, our peak summer season.  Last yearthe amount of flyers stood at 61,643.  This years increase is due to Delta Air Lines providing non stop service from Atlanta.  Originally Delta had planned this to be a summer season only option but they now have decided to provide year round service, a decision that is sure to please many who commute from Atlanta to the island. One of my favorite stories recently appeared in our local newspaper, the Island Packet.  Seems like we have a wonderous  Golden Retriever 9 month old puppy named Keiki Makai (short for "child by the ocean" in Hawaiian language.  This very special little guy is the latest addition to the Hilton Head Island Sea Turtle Protection Project.  Yes, this is one of those heart-warming stories that we all love!   According to the Island Packet, Makai has made 10 early morning trips and successfully  found every nest within a foot of their actual location---a huge help to the Island volunteers who work tirelessly to protect the turtle nests each year.  And best of all, Makai gets a little treat every time he scores.  The photo below is reprinted from the Island Packet website.  Next time you are o...

  I thought it would be timely to provide an update on mortgage issues here in the Lowcountry areas of Hilton Head and Bluffton, SC.  The good news is that the tightening caused by the sub-prime mortgage loans really hasn't been felt that much in our local Hilton Head and Bluffton real estate market.  Typically, our buyers in this area are rock solid and not affected by the current mortage issues.  At this time mortgage money is plentiful for creditworthy buyers.  What "HAS " changed is the likelihood of anyone getting a high risk loan. As an example, that would include anyone with poor credit history, low credit scores or lack of employment.  For now, those days are gone as lenders are tightening standards (and for good cause.)   Most mortgages that are processed here are not the type ...

Three major insurance carriers have decided to enter South Carolinas coastal market. Ann Roberson of the S.C. Department of Insurance says that these companies are entering our market because they see a national interest in our coastal area.The three companies are Ironshore Insurance Ltd, Universal North America and Companion Property & Casualty Group. They will be working to provide insurance coverage to homeowners, commercial business owners and condominium coverage.Scott Richardson, South Carolina's insurance director was instrumental in getting these companies to our area. Over time, we could see our rates drop with increased competition.

David Cutcliffe, quarterbacks coach for the Tennessee Volunteers recently spoke at the Crowne Plaza Resort on Hilton Head Island. About 625 people packed a ballroom Wednesday for the Week of Champions sports banquet.The Week of Champions is a Christian-based non-profit organization that provides free sports clinics to children in the Lowcountry every summer. The clinics boast nearly 70 professional and collegiate athletes and are on hand to help instruct children at this year's clinics.Cutcliffe apologized for not being able to stick around after the banquet as he was headed back to Knoxville because the Vols are in the midst of training camp.
