So . . . a good 8 hours later, I am finally recovering from the food coma that was my lunch at Husk Restaurant on Queen Street in downtown Charleston.   It makes me realize just how much I love living in a town with such great food!  Husk is a new addition to our bountiful food scene in Charleston.  The chef, Shawn Brock, is a recent James Beard award winner, but a fairly long-term member of the cooking elite of Charleston as the head chef of McCrady's.  Husk is his newest venture and has a really cool concept - farm to table; featuring food from throughout the southeast with a focus on the freshest, most local and sustainable foods (they actually post a board announcing the origin of everything from the olive oil to the mushrooms).  Not only is the end result amazing - I had the duo of...

Mud at Low Tide in Charleston, SC Often in real estate, you hear the term "mud at low".  What the heck does "mud at low" mean ?  Usually, "mud at low" is referring to mud at low tide.  Low tide may be a good thing for someone fishing or casting for shrimp.  But for someone buying property, it is a important factor for to consider, especially if the property comes with a dock.  For obvious reasons, the level of water at low tide can mean everything in relation to property value.  Just something to consider. Pictured above is the historic Ashley River in Charleston, SC, at low tide. Oh by the way, I can help you with Charleston Real Estate. Mud at Low Tide in Charleston, SC

This is just too fun not to share (even if it was a week ago, it is totally appropriate for the week before Christmas) . . . the is the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus doing a “Flash Mob” of the Hallelujah Chorus on King Street in downtown Charleston during December’s Second Sunday event. Second Sunday’s are a relatively new treat in downtown Charleston. King Street from Broad to Calhoun is closed to vehicular traffic allowing pedestrians to walk leisurely down the road. Restaurants are pulling out tables to serve street side and shops are pulling their goodies out to the street. In an area with such a temperate climate, it is great to take advantage of all that natural light for shopping, people watching and snacks! However, back to the Hallelujah Chorus – what a fun way to usher ...

Charleston Green - what is that ? Another one of these things about living in Charleston.  Everyone talks about "Charleston Green".  But what is it ?  It's  NOT a restaurant a community a drink a lifestyle design style a park a golf course Guess what? of all things, Charleston green is a paint color.  As history goes, Charleston green is the result of some very creative folks from the reconstruction period of Charleston history.  As Charleston was rebuilding the community after the Civil War era, the North sent black paint down to the Southerners.  The Southerners decided to brighten things up a bit by adding a splash of yellow into the black paint, thus resulting in Charleston Green.  Only a trained eye with bright light can distinguish the difference between the color black and the c...

French Huguenot Church - Charleston, SC - Speechless Sunday The first group of French Huguenot's arrived in Charleston around 1681 and organized the first French Huguenot congregation.  The first French Huguenot Church was constructed around 1687.  The present day French Huguenot is of Gothic Revival style and was built in 1845.  In the early days of Charleston history, church services were scheduled around the tide.  The "planters", who lived up river on the Ashley River or the Cooper River, would arrive on ebb tide and return on flood tide.  Image that.
