After the Blizzard, the world looks exquisite! This photo was taken the morning after at the Warwick Neck Lighthouse! I have always thought that I was a prepared person. After all, I was a girl scout years ago and I am definitely a planner. So when the news announced that we would be getting a major blizzard, I thought back to the Blizzard of '78. I remember seeing on the news, cars and trucks stranded on Route 95 and I remember we could not drive for a week. All the roads were impassable except for the major roads...even after the actual Blizzard. We had to walk everywhere. What I remember most was the kindness and friendliness of people! Fast forward to 2013. We lost our power, but we have a generator that powers most of the house so we still had heat and light. Our Cable company had...

Are you thinking of living in Warwick Neck, Rhode Island? Warwick, Rhode Island was settled in 1642. It was considered the first white settlement (meaning other than Indians) on the western side of the Narragansett Bay. Originally it was named Shawomet which means a spring, but then it was changed to Warwick, in honor of the Earl of Warwick.  Now, Warwick consists of many villages, one of which has an area called Shawomet, in Conimicut. As you may have guessed, most of Rhode Island names were originally Indian! The main tribe was the Cowesetts who were a part of the Narragansetts. Warwick Neck is yet another village of Warwick, Rhode Island.  It looks like a very wide peninsula, surrounded on three sides by Narragansett Bay. On one side of the neck is home to Warwick Cove which consi...

Warwick Neck The website for Warwick Neck says ‘Where It’s All About The Quality Of Life.’  And that pretty much sums up the world of Warwick Neck.  Central to the area is it’s Lighthouse, down at the bottom of the Neck, which has safeguarded seafarers since 1826.  Currently the Coast Guard maintains this green flashing beacon which earns the distinction of being the last traditional lighthouse built in Rhode Island. There are many historical aspects to this close-knit community but it is best represented by the Aldrich Mansion, Warwick Neck, reclining on a glorious, seventy-five acre estate overlooking that most scenic of Rhode Island waters, Narragansett Bay.  Today it is open for those wanting that perfect setting of beauty and elegance for a wedding or an impressive, well-run facili...

There are many marinas located in Warwick Cove in Warwick Rhode Island, but Harbor Lights Marina, in my opinion is one of the best. Besides being located on a back street off Warwick Neck Avenue, Harbor Lights Marina has a clear view down Narragansett Bay. Sitting on the dock and watching the boats brings just as much enjoyment as having a boat in a slip. Harbor Lights Marina, boasts double fingers. (for those who do not know what double fingers are, its a dock on both sides of your boat) Most of the marinas in Warwick do not have double fingers. Having a dock on either side makes it so much easier for the Captain to get the boat in the dock with a minimum of fuss. It also lets the First Mate take their time jumping off the boat to tie up the lines. A Dock has a perfect view of not only...

If you live in the Warwick Neck Area, you may have already heard of or been into the Lil Warwick Neck Store. Located on Warwick Neck Avenue, just before the turn off to the boat yards, it has reopened in the past year as a neighborhood deli with cozy little tables and chairs to sit and eat. You can pick up your staples, like milk, bread and water. (Every New Englanders snowstorm package). Or, you can grab a quick bite to eat. They have homemade dinners and lunches, a small deli counter, soda, candy, etc. This little store has the ambiance of an old country store. If you are a boater, the Lil Warwick Neck Store would be the perfect place to pick up your snacks, lunches and dinners. They have just about everything you will need for a day on the water! The menu is usually different when I...
