Free Trees for Residents in Springfield, Delaware County, PA To Help Meet Township CodeAs a homeowner in Springfield Delaware County PA, it is required under the Township Zoning Code that residents have a tree in their front yard.  To help meet this requirement the township will be distributing free trees in November of this year and in the Spring of next year 2011.  The trees are first being offered to residents who do not have a tree at this time, and then if any are left over the remaining will be given to other residents.  Up to 240 trees will be given out in total.  This is all made possible thanks to a PECO Green Regional Program Grant of $5,000 that was recently awarded to Springfield Township to purchase native trees.  If you or someone you know may benefit from this grant pleas...

Springfield Township PA street trees and residents to benefit from PECO Green Region Grant. In May, PECO awarded $150,000 in PECO Green Region grants to 20 municipalities in the greater Philadelphia area.  These grants have been awarded yearly since 2004 to provide for projects for open space preservation, conservation, and improvements.  PECO works with its parent, Exelon Corp, the Natural Lands Trust, and conservation organizations to review applications and decide grant recipients. This year five of those recipients were located in Delaware County.  Thornbury, Folcroft, Haverford, Concord, and Springfield each received grants this year.  The grants varied between $5,000 and $10,000 per municipality and will cover an array of projects. This is the time of year I try to remind family , friends and clients to do    a little house keeping on their own plumbing system to help maintain that things are in working order and no surprises can catch them when they have   trouble with there plumbing. 1) One thing no one thinks of is the valves in there home until they need to shut down the domestic water due to a leak or a minor repair. Valves need to be exercised a few times ayear. Just like our own bodies if we don't exercise we get tight and stiff and don't work as well.   So a few times a year slowly open and close the valve just to keep it loose and free of debris.
