Let's Walk Down a Country Road Let's take a walk down a country road.  What might we see today?  Deer, turkey, chipmunks, bees, hawk and bluebirds.  What's in bloom at this time of year?  Lots and lots of Queen Anne's Lace, probably not its scientific name, but that's the name I remember.  Looks great in wild flower bouquets, too. Let's Walk Down a Country Road And here is my favorite tree...   Just a short walk    Thanks for walking with me . . . down a country road.

Social Media:  Stop Whining   Stop Whining.  Who's whining?  Not me!  I am just posting on FaceBook(and ActiveRain) (and sometimes onLinkedIn and Twitter and Pinterest and Google+).   Whining defined:  crying or talking or posting in a complaining, nagging way. What about online whining.  Not me!   Recent FB posting was just a little humor, right? And, I received sympathetic comments from my FB friends, too.           Do you remember when I posted this photo?  This is my front yard.  I will spare you the whining, but Erie's winter is just four months away. (Ugh!  Erie has had snow as early as late October.)   Seriously, an occasional complaint about weeds or the weather adds a little levity and gets us a little sympathy, too, as people can relate.  BUT, no one wants to read fifteen p...

Social Media:  Did I Un-friend You? Oops!  What happened?  Did I un-friend You? or Did you un-friend me? Are we really friends or just names on the Social Roster?  Let's be honest with each other.  Why do we participate on Social Media?  Are we really interested in being friends?  How can I be friends with 500+ people?  Do I have time to be social with 500+ people?  If so, what is the quality of our interaction? As a newbie to Social Media a few years ago I got caught up in the frenzy of 'collecting' friends for my Social Roster.  Now a little wiser I am starting to sort through my Social Roster and decide who I really enjoy interacting with and who reciprocates.  Be positive:  My mother used to say, "If you can't be positive, be quiet."  In return I find that I do not appreciate listen...

Time-eating Craving for Social Media ActiveRain, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest and _________ and _________ and ___________________. Is Social Media just my Time Eater Fix that gobbles up a lot of my time or do I need to FIX my Time-eating Craving for Social Media?   Okay, how do I get my craving for all things Social Media under control?  Well, perhaps the study tip I share with my students in the Pre-license Real Estate clases will work with Social Media. How does one squeeze in all the 'To-do's' and still have time to study? Simple:  Adult education requires a 50-minute hour of instruction, meaning I teach for 50 minutes, then give students 10 minute break.  When studying I recommend that the students review & study the material for fifty minutes followed by ten minu...

Whine NOT . . . Wine Instead Who whines the best?  Kids? Teens? Adults?   No! (crying, screaming, kicking . . .) No, I don't want to go.  No, you can't touch my truck.    I want this (candy bar at store).   Whining kids.  If you are a parent or grandparent you have dealt with whining children.       Whining defined:  crying or talking or posting in a complaining, nagging way. Wine defined:  the fermented juice of grapes +   =  _______       Teens are expert 'Whiners'  Just look at their Facebook               And yes, adults do their share of whining, too.   How many comments have you heard about the weather so far today?     What about work related whines?    Who doesn't moan about Monday morning or celebrate TGIF? Erie, PA Real Estate Classes:  Legal Description of Land     Pennsylvania uses two methods for the legal description of land. Metes and Bounds (used in the thirteen original colonies until cities were laid out.  Many country properties in eastern US use the metes & bounds system.)   Lot & Block also known as Recorded Plat or Plat Map (uses lot and block numbers referred to in a plat map recorded at court house.  This system is used for subdivisions and newer urban areas.) Other states use the Rectangular Survey System sometimes called the Government Survey System established in 1785 after the American Revolution.  This system, based on longitude & latitude, is not used in Pennsylvania, however, you may see it on the PA test as a distractor.       Metes & Bounds--used by thirteen origina...

How Many Hot Dogs Did You Eat on July 4th? Did you beat Joey Chestnut's 69 hot dogs at Coney Island on July 4th?  Best I could do was two hot dogs with mustard, ketchup and onions.  At Coney Island the Hot Dog Contest is sponsored by Nathan's Hot Dogs.  Here in Erie, PA and much of western PA Smith's Hot Dogs are the preferred dogs.    Via Silvia Dukes' post I learned that Americans eat about 150 million hot dogs on July 4th.  Makes me wonder how many we eat in one year.  And how we prepare hot dogs?  On the barbecue grill of course! From Kathy Stoltman's post I learned that the term barbecue originated in the Caribbean.       Barbecue Facts by Kathy Stoltman Some Fun Facts by Silvia Dukes Now, tonight I think I am hungry for ribs on the barbecue grill. Just made potato salad and Mother...
