Well, it's that fun time of year again - Amity Township Community Days! This year, I'm having 2 booths - the ever popular Tic-Tac-Toe booth where kids try to throw 3 balls into holes in a straight line to win Tic-Tac-Toe for a prize of their choice. Since it's free, they just keep trying until they win. No, it doesn't teach them any life long lesson, but it's just fun. My second booth is for the Great American Bake Sale. Baked goods are sold and all the proceeds to go feeding the hungry - locally. I'm going to have some "penny candy" that kids can buy so they can help to feed the hungry, too. This will teach children that every little bit helps and they can help out some other family that is less fortunate than them.  It is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday - Sept 10 (from 6 to 10), Sept...

Anyone who has passed through Douglassville, Pennsylvania, probably on the much traveled Route 422, will recognize the landmark on the corner of Rt.422 & Rt. 662...Michael's Restaurant...   The famous landmark, formerly known as Michael's Diner, is currently undergoing a massive facelift, which will render the popular eating establishment even more recognizable and impressive than the 'old Michael's'...   Well, we had a 'family after church breakfast' there last Sunday...   And the food is as good as its ever been...!!!   Breakfast is outstanding, open 24 hours, excellent dinner entrees including soup and salad bar, and courteous service are all hallmarks of Michael's...     Next time, don't only say 'Make a right at Michael's'...stop and go in and enjoy a scrumptious meal...!!!     Mi...

Most of my neighbors in Amity Township spent the weekend cleaning up the damage caused by an intense storm which swept through our area on Friday evening around the dinner hour...   According to the weather 'experts' no tornado was seen to touch down by local radar...   Except Amity is literally within a valley surrounded on all sides by substantial hills...in fact, I'm always kidding my children by saying we live in a former volcano or a large meteorite-caused crater... and lest I'm mistaken, radar, is only able to detect line of sight occurrences, and the damage to our area was focused mainly on low lying areas, particularly those in heavily clustered treed areas and densely wooded areas along creeks and gullies...   Hence the term 'flying under the radar' typically applies to this o...

It was about a 40 minute drive from our home to the recreational area in Leesport, Pa., where Schuyllkill Valley Girls Softball Association would host a 10U (age 10 and under) girls softball tournament...!!!   It was a double elimination tournament beginning at 9 AM, and so you lose two games, and you're out...!!!   And so, the discussion in the car between my 8 year old daughter Emily and me on the way to this early morning sporting event revolved around self confidence, having fun, playing hard, and reminders that there are probably plenty of teams worse than ours, who, up until this point, hadn't won a game yet...   Heck, regardless, it would be a great Daddy/Daughter bonding event, and we'd probably be back home by 1 or 2 PM...   In true form, our team (The Thunder), lost the first...

Philadelphia Eagles Vs Daniel Boone Blazers Alumni & Faculty...2009...!!!   Every year for the past few years the Blazers Booster Club has sponsored this basketball game event as a fund raiser and a special event enjoyable by residents of all ages...!!!   It seems that each year the attendance increases to set new records for a sporting or amusement event...   I hope this year is no exception and the Boosters enjoy a successful fund raiser...!!!   My wife has used this occasion to set up a 'boys night out' for the males in our family, and an opportunity for the gentler gender to also take advantage of a 'girls only' night at some other local gathering place... This year...Monkey Joes...!!!   I hope this day turns out well for all concerned...!!!

Before you read too much into that title, let me assure you I am not a workaholic...well at least, NOT EXACTLY...   Yesterday was a snow day, not so much that we got a large accumulation of the white stuff (we only got about 6 inches total), but the roads were treacherous, the temperature was single digits real feel, and the winds were blustery and gusting...all in all, a good day, if any, to call it quits when it comes to making it in to work...   Now the good news about staying home in this age of technology and easily available information is that through e-mail, cell phone, broadband internet access, etc., you can literally get a lot accomplished from your favorite seat at home...   Which I attempted to do yesterday...   However, at about 3 PM, I began to feel like I needed to get s...
