Since 1997, The Gables at Chadds Ford, has received rave reviews from food critics ranging from the Philadelphia Inquirer to Main Line Today to zagats and for good reason. The elegant setting , a converted 1800s barn with contemporary decor, couldn't be more convenient if you are making the holiday rounds to area cultural attractions like Longwood Gardens or the Brandywine River Mueu. The eclectic American menu incorporates French and ASian influences. You can enjoy live jaz on the weekend evenings in the bar area, which also is a great spot for lunch and just to watch the world whizz by on Route 1. http://www.thegablesatchaddsford.com Owner Jack McFadden is a well-known restauranteur in the area so when in West chester, check out the Turk's Head Inn.

If you're looking for an off-the beaten path fun getaway this holiday season, maybe lunch or a cup of tea, remember Simon Pearce on The Brandywine at the crossroads of  Rtes 52 and 100 (a.k.a. Creek Rd) Here's phenomenal views of the river through enormous windows, a comfortable bar with mid-afternoon menu, and glass-blowing downstairs. Yes, glass blowing - with a gorgeous shop upstairs in case you've forgotten someone on your gift list. Truly unique housewares and other hand-crafted goodies. I've been here for elegant dinners and special events and the food never disappoints. True to its New England roots (there is another facility in Vermont, and they have a catalogue) the cheddar soup is outstanding  as were their crabcakes.  Sunday Brunch is a real  treat . 610-793-0948. Or go to ht...

This continues my report of how Michelle and I are doing generating leads in our local Genuardi's grocery store in front of my long-time bank Wilmington Savings Fund Society (WSFS). It has been a spectacular way to reconnect with our sphere and meet new people. Here's the Best Buy list - page 2 (continued from an earlier post) for the Unionville-Chadds Ford School district. Would love to hear what others are doing that's off the beaten track. Please email me your ideas or give me a call at 610-764-3062. Also, note that our best buys are not JUST KW listings, we are encouraging other realtors to contact us with listings they consider best buys.

Explaining to buyers moving to  the Chadds Ford area, renowned for its superior school system,  that it is more a state of mind than a  geographic location  is a challenge that I cherish. Chadds Ford is a small historic crossroads memorialized by popular Hank's Diner, which if you are lucky you will enjoy some of the best moussaka ever,  and it also is a township in Delaware Count 40 minutes outside Philadelphia.  But, Chester County, right next door, also shares in thebounty of art, history and natural beauty.  Perhaps it's better offer a regional definition extending into northern Delaware - the BRANDYWINE VALLEY. It simply is a great place to live. Our home values have not changed dramatically, knock on wood. Our quality of life is superb. Every September, the Battle of the Brandywin...
