  The Parkdale Volunteer Fire Department Presents "Casino Night"!   In small towns, volunteer fire departments are the backbone of the community. The Parkdale Volunteer Fire Department in Parkdale, Oregon is made up of 33 volunteer members and two paid personnel, providing fire protection to over 5,200 citizens. These volunteers are guys from all walks of life, in other careers, who are constantly on call to put their lives on the line at a moment's notice. It takes a lot to run a volunteer department, too.   Youth league basketball started last week in the Columbia River Gorge. Our son plays for the Parkdale, third and fourth grade team, practicing twice a week, then with games beginning at the end of January. We're amazed at how much the boys grow through the season as they learn the game better and get in better condition. We love all the friends we've made by attending practices and games. There's a true sense of community.
