Cooper Spur is the Highest Maintained Trail on hood  When smoke from forest fires makes hiking in Central Oregon unsafe, one option can be to go north towards Mt Hood.  There are times in which air quality is hazardous in Central Oregon and the air is clear in the north part of the state. This was the situation on July 27th. It is a bit of a drive from Bend to Mt Hood (plan on 2.5 hours), but the air was clear mid morning in the Mt. Hood National Forest.Cooper Spur is located on the northeast flank of Mt. Hood and has multiple ways to hike to it. The hike from the Cooper Spur Trailhead is one of the shorter ways, but it does gain almost 2700 feet of elevation in roughly 3 miles so it is considered a more challenging hike. To access the this trailhead, hikers drive on close to 9 miles o...

Mt. Hood Town Hall Revival The town hall in the small town of Mt. Hood, Oregon (15 minutes south of Hood River) has been standing for almost 100 years, built in 1914. The building has been through several revivals, first serving as a school, then a church and finally a community center for "Upper Valley" residents. Through decades of dedication, the center has been maintained and improved by residents of the valley. In 1987 the Town Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Now, here's your chance to help. Join your neighbors at the Mt. Hood Town Hall on Saturday, April 9th, for the "Enchanted Evening", 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. The evening will inlcude live music by Lolo Mo, a silent auction, dinner with desserts, and local wine and beer. The fundraiser is part of a huge eff...

I had a chance to take a "ski day" yesterday at Timberline in Mt. Hood. It was a beautiful day with blue skies and temps in the low 40's. One of the nice things about living in Vancouver Washington is that we have close access to so many beautiful places like this. I snapped this shot at the end of the day just before driving home.Photo Journal - Vancouver Washington Real Estate is a side project for me. Real Estate can be a bit tedious and I will occasionally post interesting pictures of the non real estate world as I see it. I am not sure where this will take me but I know that it will be a fun ride.Follow this link to see the rest of Photo Journal - Vancouver Washington Real Estate   When you choose Elite Realty NW to handle your Vancouver Washington real estate transactionss, you c...

Photo Journal - Vancouver Washington Real EstateMy original plan with the Vancouver Washington Real Estate Photo Journal was occasionally post a photo of something interesting that I ran across during my day. Little did I know that the idea would snowball like it has. It seems that I find several photo worthy items every day!Today, Janice and I took the day off to go skiing at Mt. Hood. One of the things that I love about living in Vancouver Washington is that there is so much to do during every season. Right now it is ski season and we couldn't be luckier than to live less than 2 hours from Timberline at Mt. Hood! Of course, every good ski lodge has a good bar. Timberline is no exception! Photo Journal - Vancouver Washington Real Estate is a new side project for me and I will occasion...

PhoTabulous Friday Fotos - Winter WonderlandSki time in the Pacific Northwest is finally here! We bought our season passes last week, tuned the skis, and hit the slopes. It is still early in the season and Mt. Hood - Timberline already has a 68" base. Daytime temps are hanging in  the low teens so the crowds are thin and the snow is staying cold and fresh.Don't forget snow chains or studded tires as they are required for the road from the fire dept. up to the lodge. Have fun!

Looking for tracksI snapped this pic yesterday from the Rams Head Bar and Grill in the Timberline Lodge in Mt. Hood Oregon. We had lunch near a window that looked out to the upper slopes of Timberline. The lifts to the top aren't yet opened so these slopes remain pristine and trackless. They almost look lonely. How would you like to be the first one for the season?
