Creating Our Own Backyard Farm ~ Phase Two Canby, Oregon is a great place to have a garden, a farm in your backyard if you wish.  The soil in this area is great for raising all kinds of crops, including vegetables, fruits, trees, flowers, shrubs, landscape plants and grasses.  It is a rich countryside filled with the wonders of what is grown and sent all the United States.  We are fortunate to live in a small town where everyone knows the history and most of their neighbors at least enough to say hello and mean it.  It is called the Garden Spot for good reason. We moved to Canby a year ago and have been recreating our backyard to fit our life style.  It is not large but actually lives large providing us with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.  A work in progress and this year an exper...

"This Is My Wish For You" By Rascal Flatts A song that says so much and reminds me of family             Sometimes a day may pass, we are busy, time flies, our thoughts are focused on what we are busy with and we forget to remember how much there is to be thankful for just even in that moment.  I read a post I did way back when and felt like I needed to pass this on once more.  I sent it along to a Grandson that I am sure needs this "right now" who also loves country music.  Listening to the words of Rascal Flatts singing this beautiful and meaningful song also made me think of so many other  things.I dedicate this song to my children and grandchildren, Rascal Flatts sings it in a way I may not be able to express, and music is part of the soul's expression.   I am a fortunate soul havin...

It's almost that time again!   What do you get when you mix a cold fall morning, the crack of dawn and 4,000 people pushing their way through for the best deals on new and used horse tack in Oregon?  That's right, the Canby Tack Sale!   The sale is probably the largest fund raising event for 4H, so when individuals and local retailers purchase a booth, it's for a great cause.  The demand for booths is high, I called two weeks ago to get a booth, and it was too late.  They weren't even taking names for a waiting list.   So, Saturday, October 20th at 8am, be there!  Clackamas County Fairgrounds in Canby, Oregon.

It's Canby's 28th Annual Spring Garden Fair Time! May 5th & 6th, 2012 It's that time again to set aside a few hours this weekend to head down to the Canby 28thAnnual Spring Garden Fair at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds.  I can easily spend 3 or more hours here walking up and down perusing all the 200 plus vendors with booths full of every kind of plant imaginable. Not only will you find some great plants, you can get many of them straight from the grower. I've found varieties of flowers and plants that you can't find in the garden centers. Oh..and garden art? I'm a sucker for garden art. I just love it! There are many classes planned through out both days and master gardeners on hand to answer your questions. They even have lots of volunteers that will pull a wagon for you to retrieve...

Mill Street Park in Canby, Oregon is a great family park located in the heart of Canby. This park is a rather large park with lots of things to do for the whole family. My son really liked the tractor arm toy, where he could dig and move dirt. But, we also could have played baseball, basketball or even played tennis. This park is a wonderful thing for the residence of Canby and if you live in Canby, you should check out this great city resource they have built for you. If you are interested in living in Canby, give Todd Clark and the Friendly Home Team a call as we would love to help you find your dream home. Oh my gosh, I can't believe how much fun I have had at the fair yesterday.  I went to the fair and saw the 4H kids with their bunnies doing the agility track.  I don't know how this got started but it was great.  There were things to jump over and and tunnels to go through and most of the bunnies did pretty good.

My haul from the Canby Spring Garden Fair...twas a good day!   What a great day to be out strolling along the over 200 booths at the annual Master Gardener Spring Garden Fair in Canby. With the temperature reaching 71 degrees and the sun shining away, I could literally feel my pupils widening, my body taking in that blessed warmth as I meadered through rows of annuals, perrenials, veggies, conifers and trees. Interspersed in between all these were garden art, furniture, bird feeders, as well as some antique yard items. Breathing in all the scents of the flowers, the soil, just put me in a great frame of mind. After going through and picking out my choices and paying, I went to the cart area where many kids hoping to earn some tips for various things where a young woman named Kelly follo...

Ok, so the story can be told in the numbers This is just for Canby Oregon Canby Homes on the market - 133, Pending 16, Sold in the past month 13 Canby Short Sales on the market  32, Pending 0, Sold in the past month 2 Canby Bank owned properties on the market 10, Pending 5, Sold in the past month 6 So 25% of our market is Short Sales, and less than 10% is bank owned, but 50% of sales are with the bank owned.  I guess the good news here is that homes are selling.

Do you live in the Canby or Portland area?  Do you like to sing?  Now is the time to go check out a Sweet Adelines chorus for women or a Barbershop chorus for men.   Christmas time is a great time to try out a chorus to see if its what you want to do.  We just started practicing our Christmas Music last night.  Cascade Harmony Chorus meets every Monday night at 7pm in Canby.  We do lots of performing at Christmas Time.  We sing at Nursing Homes, Christmas Parties, and well for whomever will hire us.  It is very rewarding to sing at Nursing Homes as they are so excited to have company and to hear live carols.  Now for the men in Canby there is the Pitch Pipers and they meet on Thursdays.  Here is the link to Cascade Harmony in case you need more information or have a friend who would lov...

Last weekend started the huge Swan Island Dahlia festival in Canby, Oregon.  The Dahlias looked great and the weather was in the low eighties so it was perfect.  The festival continues through next weekend.  Its FREE.  Of course there is stuff to buy though.  You can see what all the dahlias look like in their displays before you order them, which is great so you know how big they are going to get.  For those of you who haven't seen many dahlias, they vary in size from about an inch across to about 16 inches across.  The big ones are sometimes called dinner plate dahlias.  There are just fields full of different colors of dahlias, rows and rows.

There are many times when stagers must work with specific items in a home .  Our Portland staging company recently staged this Canby home that was custom built in the 90's. This lovely home had been freshly painted, had a great layout and was vacant. Almost vacant... The owners of this home requested that the custom window treatments stay.  As a result we had to ensure that the furnishings in the home tied in well with the treatments yet modernized and minimized them as much as possible. Here are some pictures of the home after it was staged.                      Have you done projects where you had to work with items of a specific taste? ========================================================================================= This vacant single family  home was professionally staged by...

I sing with Cascade Harmony Chorus, a Sweet Adeline Chorus in region 24.  We just got back from competition and what a great time we had.  It seems like only yesterday when we dreaded going to competition.  About 5 years ago we got a new director, and she had us start doing things like actually standing on the risers the whole practice and gave us practice tapes so we could practice during the week.  Five years ago our goal was "not to suck" at comp.  (sorry for the foul language)  This year we came in 2nd in our division and 3rd overall, which is great.   Our goal now is to always "medal".  We are singing better than ever and it is very very fun. If any of you are out there reading this, well women specifically, and you like to sing, go to http://www.sweetadelineintl.org/  and find a c...

So in the past couple of days I have talked to a couple of past clients that have flipped houses and they are ready to start doing it again.  There are a number of bank owned homes that are priced low and need fixing.  So I stocked up on handy-wipes in my purse again and am back on the hunt for yucky houses. I am sure there are other parts of the country that this has been happening and some that this still have yet to happen.  I just know its a good sign.

Short sale facts - True or False ??? A Short Sale is where you sell you home the bank agrees to take less for it than you owe - (the bank is getting shorted!) •1.       Almost all homes for sale today are short sales. False  Canby there are  174  homes for sale, 29 are short sales (16%)           Molalla there are  143  homes for sale,  32 are short sales (23%)         Woodburn there are   223  homes for sale, 23 are short sales (10%)        Aurora there are 51  homes for sale,  5 are short sales (10%) •2.       Short sales are fast sales. False - short sales usually take anywhere from 3 months to 12.  So there are good deals they just can take awhile.  So patience patience patience. •3.        Banks, not home owners, pay realtor fees to sell the home. True- Realtor fees come out of the...

A person called our office, sobbing, barely able to speak. I asked what I could do to help…they, then described a horrific experience with Hope for Homes (Free HUD counseling) which led to them being 3 days from the auction date of their home. The reason the tears…they were packing all their worldly possessions up in boxes. I was able to get enough information to realize they qualified for the “Making Homes Affordable” government modification plan. I had them authorize me to speak with their lender (Wells Fargo), which doesn’t want another home. Our office called and stopped the foreclosure! The person is now on the road to modifying their Mortgage and looks like will end up cutting their mortgage payment by over 40%. If we can, and if you qualify, we can do the same for you. We are co...
