Vaughan, ON Real Estate News

It might have not been a good idea to go out the night before a 7K run... Not Alina Spektor's wisest decision... However, after a fresh cup of coffee, bright and early in the morning, I made it to "Doctor McLean Park" in Woodbridge, and I was on time!!!   I met up with 2 Realtors from my office in Vaughan, Re/Max Premier, we threw on our shirts and we were on our way through the streets of Woodbridge. Did I mention it was raining???  No... Noah's Arc raining!!! I actually had to bring my umbrella!!! That was quite the site jogging down Islington.  If a big wind had come up I would've been off like Mary Poppins and finished the race in first place!!! All I kept thinking was it was for such a great cause, raising funds for prostate cancer research for Sunnybrook Hospital. The event was ve...

It's been an exciting few months. Six months to be exact. Planning and organizing my Walk n' Run event (Sergio's "No Speed Limit" 7K Walk n' Run), for the cancer research and care facility that's been helping me through this cancer thing. Finally, the shirts have been delivered and we're just days away from the fundraiser.  Last week it was TV news, tomorrow the local paper, and Sunday other media people will allow me and my participants to share the story. It's really going to happen. From an idea that was conceived while still having a catheter in me, to booking the park for the BBQ, to gathering corporate sponsors, the letter writing campaign and phone work, to designing the shirts, it's all coming down this Sunday. This event is not about me, and never was intended to be. From the v...

Hello to all the Active Rain Groups that talk about food and cooking.... I love you guys.... I just wanted to introduce myself to these groups and personally thank you all for this wonderful forum to share the love of Cooking and all things food. I've seen many of you have the same food related addiction as I do. It's nice to know that a twelve step program isn't available yet for compulsive cooking. I do a lot of cooking and love to share it with my friends and family, and clients.... For my birthday, people who know me well avoid getting me pens, ties and office goodies, I get knives, chef coats, cutting board (Michigan Maple), aprons, dish towels, and cookbooks. I've been a passionate cook and food talker, cookie baker (in a big way- producing 3500 sweet treats for my clients and fri...

I had a dream that I was working for a small company in some capacity...no idea what they or I did, or in what industry I was involved. The dream was about me being been fired from my position; unfairly, I might add. In the dream, I was confused and momentarily concerned about my future and how I was going to make a living. I've been self employed since the age 25, I don't have a resume, or CV (still don't get that), and have no desire to become an employee. This is so weird.... Once awakened enough to contemplate a second espresso, I took the time to reflect on the possible meaning of this dream; the significance, if any. I sat at my desk (home offices are sweet), and evaluated my surrounding a bit. My wall filled with accomplishments, awards, photos of clients and testimonials, my 2 w...

Who the heck are you? In 1997, I received a letter informing me that my family Insurance agent had retired, and my account was given to a stranger.  I was turned off by the fact his office didn't know my family name when I called. I had to spell my name a few times before they found me on the system. ‘The system? ' I was now on a system! Remember it was 1997, and this statement was as impersonal a comment that anyone could utter, still is. Since my family had been dealing with the same agent since 1965, had built a level of trust with him, I felt uncomfortable with being  flipped over to an unfamiliar person. Knock at the door! It was a very hot summer's day when Sandra Behlok; State Farm Agent, and I met while she was canvassing my street looking to establish her new office (yes! She ...

There's much written in Real Estate on business development and little on personal growth, at least not outside of nutrition, physical exercise and time management; self grooming on an exterior plain, and little about real inner improvement. Times are changing, or at least rolling back to simpler ideals, with humility and modesty replacing self importance and bigshotism. How did I get on track? What keeps me grounded in the midst of the competitive, hard driving, money oriented, award crazed real estate culture I entered over 25 years ago? The answer was to give back quietly. I started by learning to invest an hour a day. It was that simple but not easy at first. I compare it to attending church as a child. That hour was brutal, it was an eternity for a 9 year old, but with time it had ...

If anyone is even remotely interested in buying a home, please read this. Due to inflation pressure, Bank of Canada might raise the prime rate sooner than originally expected. I have seen bond yield rates go up sharply. This means fixed rates might go up very soon. So please do yourself a favor and lock in for 120 days. Please take advantage of record low interest rates. Great rate offered for pre-approval: 3.69% for 5 year fixed. Once the application is sent in, the rate will be guaranteed for 120 days. For clients who want to take advantage of lower variable rates, P-0.5% (1.75%) is still available. Once a listing client sees first hand what a professional stager can accomplish in one or two days marketing their home for sale, it often leads to staging their new home for living. I had the opportunity to stage a property for a busy professional couple with 3 year old twins. Once they had seen the positive change in their present property, they understood that it is the details that bring a design together to create a finished, polished look. My brief was simple. Stage the five principal rooms on their move in day. Sofas, drapery, artwork, bedding, lighting, area rugs and accessories were purchased over a three day period.  As the couple were busy packing and moving from an hour away, I was at the new home receiving new furniture deliveries, hanging drapery rods and drapery and stagi...

Come experience the magic of Christmas in Kleinburg Ontario Canada.  This old town that was developed back in 1848 by John Kline will fill you with the spirit of Christmas fast. Even faster if it was covered in a blanket of snow, picture the roadways in the movies 'Scrooge' or 'It's a Wonderful Life, but forget the snow, we always like the slow, scenic route and we've asked Santa for a mild winter anyway!   Kleinburg is a quaint town with one little business street, don't blink you truly will have gone through it.  But as they say the best things come in small packages and don't underestimate the powerful punch of small town Kleinburg, it is renown for the famous McMichael's Art Gallery, The Doctor's House for a fine culinary experience, which also features a small white chapel very pop...

Advantage Staging has the unique opportunity to stage the lobby of the Remax Premier office at the centrally situated Vaughan Mills location with a new look every quarter. You may remember when I arrived at Remax it started out looking like this....definitely could use a little more warmth to welcome clients. I knew I could create a warm, welcoming look very easily by adding furniture with the right texture fabric and colour. The first staging looked like this....                       And now the lobby looks like this......                       Subtle changes were made that effect the mood of the space, creating a welcome feel. Clients and visitors comment every day how comfortable the furniture is. They feel right at home and don't want to get up as they feel so good sitting there. N...

Wow, great news The Bank Of Canada is committed to leaving the record low interest rate bench mark at .25% through to about June of 2010. Bank of Canada is optimistic, saying they see strong household spending. Expert policy makers say that Canada's GDP would come down 2.3 per cent in 2009, compared with predictions earlier this year that the economy would fall 3 per cent. Gross National Product will improve 3 per cent 2010, compared with an earlier policy makers predictions, that our economy's engines would increase by 2.5 per cent in 2010. Hello everyone, my name is Giovanni Rossi. Everyone calls me John.  So what right. I agree.  You're here because we both share the same sediments.  We love Vaughan.  As far as I'm concerned we live or would like to live in one of the most desirable areas anywhere.  Here is a little information of the world's best past to live, in my opinion.    There are five communities that make up the city of Vaughan. Woodbridge, Ontario, North to South - Teston to Steeles, East/West - Hwy 400 to Hwy 50 Maple, Ontario, North to South - King Vaughan Line to Rutherford, East to West - Bathurst to Hwy 400 Thornhill, Ontario, North to South - Rutherford to Steeles, East to West - Yonge to Dufferin Concord, Ontario, North to South - Rutherford to Steeles, East to West - Dufferin to Hwy 400 Kleinburg, Onta...

What an exciting night it was, meeting Wendel Clark from the Maple Leafs after he had his number raised to the rafters in the ACC in honour of his amazing career with the team.  Some day I hope to Stage Wendel's place. Something tells me there is going to be a HUGE collection that I am going to have to store away until moving day.

Placing Two Pictures in a Large Space When placing two pictures that are not the same size, the rule of thumb is to place the centre of each picture at the same height.                           RECAP The rule of thumb is to measure 56 inches from the centre of the piece to the floor.   For example, if the painting is 24 inches tall, you divide 24 by two and get 12.  Then add 56 inches to 12, so your artwork should be hung at 68 inches from the floor.  This is only a guideline. Remember, rules are made to be broken! There are so many variables to factor in when hanging artwork in a home such as, sofas, windows, doorways, door frames and ceiling heights.  Also, do not hang pictures directly in the centre of an open space on the wall.  Artwork always looks and feels visually better when t...

Grouping Pictures If you are hanging a picture or a grouping over your sofa, there should be enough room between the sofa and the artwork, so when seated, a person doesn't hit their head on the artwork.  Then again, pictures should not be hung too high over a sofa.                                            Leave an equal amount of space between pictures when grouping them. Placing them too close to one another will create a cluttered look.  This doesn't apply when you are hanging a large grouping of let's say 6 or more pictures stacked 2 to 3 rows high.  They often look better placed about 2-3 inches apart from each other in both directions.  On the other hand, placing artwork too far apart from each other will make them appear separate and unrelated, unless you are going for the ‘gall...
