The Blue Dome Arts Festival in downtown Tulsa through May 16, 2010 Hard to say why the local Tulsans tend to support the Blue Dome Arts festival over Mayfest. I can remember visiting local artists at Mayfest when I moved to Tulsa in the early 80s. Now you'll find only a few participating. The gentleman from our parish, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, use to sell Greek food at Mayfest until the fees escalated to a point that they could no longer make a profit. So, now at Tulsa's Mayfest, you'll find fair food and out-of-town "international" artists - few locals. What about the Tulsa artists who started Mayfest? Good eats.  Late nights.  Fun times.  That pretty much sums up the Blue Dome District of downtown Tulsa.  Right in the heart of it all, the Blue Dome District is where downtown life began.  The district gets its name from the actual blue dome at the corner of 2nd & Elgin on top of what used to be a Gulf service station.  In a few short years this area has become home to some of Tulsa's trendiest restaurants, bars, galleries, shops, and of course the Blue Dome Arts Festival.  Day or night you can eat (or drink) at the Blue Dome Diner, Tsunami Sushi Bar, or one of Elliot Nelson's hot spots such as El Guapo's or the Continental.  You can also find some of the best home decor and gift ideas at my favorite downtown store, Dwelling Spaces, where diva & proprietor Mary Beth Babcock shows her w... 01/09/2008
