The county seat of McCurtain County is Idabel.  It  is the largest city / town in the extreme southeast corner of Oklahoma with a population of about 7000. Idabel is only about 20 miles from Texas and about 20 miles from Arkansas,  just a couple of hours from the Dallas – Fort Worth, Texas area and about 3 to 3 ½ hours from the Oklahoma City area or from Tulsa, Oklahoma according to Internet travel sites. It's been such a busy summer!  AND it's fall already or soon will be.  The autumnal equinox is at 11:44 am Eastern Daylight Time, on September 22nd this year.  The fourth of July came and went, school has started back and there's just a hint of fall in the air. July 4th at Lake Raymond Gary was awesome.  We had our grandchildren up there at our place for the celebration and thoroughly enjoyed the entire day.  The fireworks this year were the best ever...which is what I say every year.   Doaksville,named for Josiah Doak, was founded between 1824- 1831. Doak had been co-owner of the Mississippi trading post where a Choctaw removal treaty was negotiated in 1820. He and his brother preceded the Choctaws to what is now SE Oklahoma. Doaksville was the Choctaw Indian Nation Capital from 1850 until 1863.
