"I want to look at foreclosures"I often get asked by current clients and prospective clients about foreclosures, short sales, REO's, Fannie Mae's, Freddie Macs, HUD's, and every other type of distress sale.   It seems in the mind of the general public that buying a foreclosure automatically makes it a good deal.  However, this is not always the case.  In fact, there are lots of ways to find good deals. "What I really mean is I want to find a good deal"Whenever I hear someone say they want to look at foreclosures, I ask them are they looking for a foreclosure specifically or a good deal in general?  Almost every single time they say they are looking for a good deal.  The truth is, there are tons of good deals out there, we just need to go make one.  In our local Edmond and Oklahoma City ...

I just read Peggy Chirico's post "I Don't Take Referrals!" and I must say, I'm amazed at how quickly many of the commenters there have jumped on an agent who chose not to accept a referral, calling him names without knowing his circumstances, all while claiming "I never turn down a referral!" Is it possible that the agent in question has a business plan that he's committed to, that works for him, that doesn't include paying out referral fees? Maybe he's got enough business that he's happy, and he's not interested in growing anymore? I can tell you that personally I do take referrals, but I'm choosy. I only take the ones that actually stand to compensate me for my time and experience. I will not take referrals that end up draining my resources (time & money). I've had agents call me to ...

Earlier this week I wrote a post about the many similarities between Wichita, Kansas and Oklahoma City (Edmond).  As you have probably heard by now Boeing will be relocating many of their engineers to Oklahoma City from their Wichita plant in a year or so.  Since then I've had the chance to visit with a friend of mine who is from Derby, Kansas.  I wanted to know more than just the demographics and census data I found.  She explained to me that Derby is just outside of Wichita and was actually pretty similar to Edmond in a lot of ways.  Like Edmond, Derby has had explosive growth during the last 10-15 years.  She told me it's hard to tell where Wichita ends and Derby begins.  Sounds a lot like Edmond and Oklahoma City.  I had to check it out Here's what I learned

You'll have to excuse me as I enjoy my five minutes of fame!  Okay, it might not be Lady Gaga fame but it's a sliver of notoriety in my world.   We were thrilled when Dena Edwards with Edmond Outlook recently interviewed us about the Estate Sale Services we provide.  We were even more excited to see that her article is in the January issue which hit mailboxes last week.  When we visited with Dena, we shared information about the estate sale process and our goal of becoming a single source for folks needing to liquidate both personal property and real estate in Edmond and the Oklahoma City metro.  Here's an excerpt from the article;  An antique armoire. A half-empty bottle of glass cleaner. A worn pair of blue jeans. Cans of green beans. An old collection of dolls. Oriental rugs. Rolls o...

Sometimes it just feels good to get back to doing what you do well.  After spending the better part of a week being home sick with the blechy blech, today was my first day feeling normal again.  My back to normal day came with new relocation clients and gorgeous weather to show them around town in.  One of my favorite things about Oklahoma is that you can find yourself driving with the sun roof open on a random December day!  Granted, Oklahoma weather also means it could snow on that same December day but we won't go there!  Today's tour took us to see new construction in several neighborhoods in Edmond.  We stopped by to see a Taber Home in Robin Ridge, a few of the Ideal Homes in Valencia, the always popular Highland Trails and finally the new Highland Farms both by 4Corners.  My clie...

O This time of year our to do lists runneth over!  Am I right?  There's the shopping, the baking and don't forget the decorating.  Then somewhere in between you want to squeeze in a fun holiday activity or two with the kiddos.  There are plenty of fun Downtown in December events to choose from.  But honestly, driving to downtown Oklahoma City can be a bit of a hassle when you're pressed for time.  Luckily there are three fun events this weekend right here in Edmond to choose from!  The first two are short and sweet.  Super easy to squeeze in between runs to the post office and Hob Lob! North Pole Holiday Adventure is on Saturday, December 10 from 2-4 inside the MAC building at Mitch Park.  Kiddos will get to visit Santa's sweet shop to decorate cookies and gingerbread houses.  They have...

I've always worked with the public.  I've helped folks with their basic needs; food, clothing, and shelter.  Over the years I've worked in food service, retail, and now real estate.  Those three industries may seem pretty different on the surface.  But they actually have one strong common thread; customer service.  To be successful in any of the three, a company really needs to have strong customer service skills.  To me, excellent customer service is much more than a good return policy or a few smiling faces.  It's an overall experience as soon as I walk in the door.  When I find a business doing this well, I'm hooked!  I'm willing to pay a bit more and will be a raving fan. Today I found a new business in Edmond doing this incredibly well.  I finally stopped by the Meat House.  If you...

What images come to mind when you think about bringing home a Christmas tree?  I always picture a large tree tied atop a small car driving down the road.  Or a family walking through the woods to select just the perfect one.  You know, something right out of a holiday movie or a Hallmark card. Did you know that you can give your family that idyllic Hallmark card experience when you get your tree this year?  Instead of grabbing a tree at the local hardware store, why not head over to the Sorghum Mill Christmas Tree Farm in Edmond to pick the perfect tree.  The Sorghum Mill Tree Farm is over at 7121 Midwest Lane in Edmond.  It's pretty easy to find; just a bit northeast of I-35 and Covell.  They have plenty of directional signs to help guide you there.   When you arrive you will find they...

I have a soft spot in my heart for store window displays.  I remember being a little girl and going to downtown Chicago to see the window displays at stores like Marshall Fields and Carson Pirie Scott during the holidays.  It was always so magical when the intricate displays were finally unveiled.  Before getting into real estate, I worked as a visual merchandiser and had the opportunity to create my own window displays.  While they were never as elaborate as the displays in downtown Chicago, they were my own mini works of art! This weekend the owners of the shoppes in downtown Edmond will have their chance to show off their own window display works of art during the "Downtown Edmond Shop Crawl."  Merchants will be competing in a Window Display Competition.  Shoppers will get to vote fo...

My daughter is home from OSU for Thanksgiving this week.  Today while the rest of us are busy working she is at the house taking it easy after a crazy month of studying.  I'm pretty sure I can expect that she's going to hang out on the couch with the dog, watch movies and nap.  Then she'll repeat the entire process.  Maybe she'll throw a load of her laundry in if she's feeling particularly industrious.  Maybe. As a parent, that's a pretty reasonable expectation of a college student home on break.  It's based on historical fact.  After all, I've known her for 18 years.  I know her patterns.  To expect that she would be home cleaning every surface while preparing a four course meal for the family to enjoy tonight would be pretty unrealistic.  Don't get me wrong, it would be freaking fanta...

In the past CENTURY 21 Goodyear Green has given back to families in need during the holidays in a variety of ways.  As a company, we have collected food, wrapped presents and even made monetary donations to families and or charities in the area. This year, we want to continue that tradition but with a twist.  This year we are asking for your help deciding who to help.  It might be your neighbor or co-worker.  It could be a family from your son's school.  It could even be a family you have never met but heard about at church or on the news.  Anyone who has touched your heart and is having a tough time right now.  From now until Thanksgiving we will be accepting your nominations for a family or individual that might need a boost this holiday season.  All we ask is that you complete a quic...

I originally wrote this post last November.  In celebration of Halloween tomorrow, I thought it was worthy of a replay.  Happy Halloween!  I first heard about the "Haunted Circus" in Edmond about a year ago.  My daughter was heading out there with a group of friends.  They claimed there were empty cages, trailers and more.  Honestly, at the time I didn't really think it existed.  I thought it was probably a teenage legend of sorts.  After all, if there was an abandoned circus in Edmond, I would have heard about it before them!  I figured they would have a great adventure and forgot all about it.Until this week that is when the topic came up again, twice!  The first time was at lunch with some co-workers.  Somehow the lunch conversation topic steered toward circuses (what, you don't talk...

Fall just wouldn't be the same without a visit to the local pumpkin patch!  For my family that means one place, Shelden's Pumpkin Corner in Edmond over at 5th and Broadway.  That's just where we went last night. Shelden's Pumpkin Corner in Edmond has a wide variety of pumpkins to choose from.  Of course they have traditional Jack's in all sizes for carving for just about $6 a piece.  They also have more fanciful varieties like fairy tales and Cinderellas for just a wee bit more.  There are the popular white pumpkins and even giants.  Inside the tent you will find painted OU and OSU pumpkins.  But it's not just pumpkins.  While there you can also get corn stalks, mums and gourds.  Definitely something for everyone and every autumn display. As you can see, last night we left with our hand...

This afternoon I stopped by Downtown Edmond to check out the 1st Annual Art Crawl with my daughter.  There were art demonstrations and shops to visit.  We were told that someone was blowing glass and Cassady wanted to see that for sure.  As we walked and talked along Broadway we saw a sign leading us into a restaurant to see samples of blown glass.  We thought that maybe we would find the glass blower inside, so we went on in.  Right away we were greeted and offered a tour by the owner.  The restaurant was Italian Jim's.  We were told that the blown glass on display is from the neighboring Bella Forte Glass Studio.  Both are owned by the same family. I have to say it's a fascinating concept.  While dining on pizza and pasta, you can admire incredible pieces of glass art, all of which ar...

Today I had the opportunity to hear Edmond Police Chief, Bob Ricks, give a presentation on the proposed new combined Police and 911 Safety Center for Edmond.  Voters will be deciding on the issue on October 11.  Chief Ricks gave the attendees of the Edmond Board of REALTORS luncheon a brief history of the current police facility in Edmond.  We learned that the original building was built in the 1960's and was designed to service a population of 34,000 with 49 sworn officers.  Along the way the facility was adjusted to meet the needs of a growing community.  They added a second story and jail in 1980.  In 1995 it was remodeled adding some square footage but losing some parking.  Our 911 Dispatch is located in a separate location in a basement down the street.  Today the facility serves a...
