There is a W.O.O.F. meeting at the Old Library today....March 30, 2009 at 7 to 8:30 PM*. W.O.O.F. is Worthington Organized Off-Leash Friends... this is W.O.O.F's first meeting about the status of an off-leash park project in Worthington. W.O.O.F. has more info on the Sustainable Worthington website. This morning I was looking for something I wrote about Walkable Worthington on one of my blogs a year or so ago...  sadly sometimes it is faster for me to leave the blogs and search the whole web to find my stuff... and I found W.O.O.F.  and the whole Sustainable Worthington Website... The Sustainable Worthington site is interesting. Walking, biking, buses,  gardening, rain, the Olde Worthington Farmers Market.... and more. The dog (mine) is used for illustration only. He's not off-leash ma...

The News. Now. I sorta wanted to do something like: This Week in Worthington  Doesn't that sound catchy?  ...of course that is the name of the newspaper... isn't it?  What's Happening in Real Estate in Worthington? No, that sounds too 1970's... The News about Worthington real estate? How about Last Week in Worthington? Looking in the rear view mirror at the week in real estate or the data that was reported... anyway. Worthington This is about homes in the City of Worthington (and the Village of Riverlea because Riverlea is lumped into the MLS area (the Columbus Board of Realtors multiple listing service.) Residential properties, single family homes and condominiums. Sold There was a "Sold" in  Colonial Hills... another sold  home shows up as sold in the Columbus Board of Realtor's  Mult...

The Ohio Historical Marker for St. John's Church in Worthington just east of the Village Green describes the historic church as "Saint John's Church of  Worthington and Parts Adjacent."   Of course in 1803  "Parts Adjacent"  to the Village of Worthington would have been even closer in than the "Parts Adjacent"  to the City of Worthington now.    I may start referring to the Worthington area as "Parts Adjacent." The Village of Worthington streched from Morning to Evening Streets and from North Street to South Street. What areas are Worthington area or "parts adjacent" today? Neighborhoods in the City of Columbus which are in the Worthington School District, their mailing address may or may not be the 43085 ZIP code.  Neighborhoods in Sharon Township that are in the Worthington School D...

When Dawn in Hudson Ohio (NE Ohio) wrote of her "Urgent! Your Input Needed!":  "I have a lovely family that needs to move into a larger home. They would like a property where they can raise chickens!   I thought the problem was the chickens. I remember seeing chickens on a street corner on the west side of Columbus a couple of years ago. I have chickens on the brain. There was a chicken incident in a Worthington Ohio neighborhood recently.   I am just barely aware of the chicken incident.  A Worthington resident has pet chickens?  A neighbor's dog attacked a pet chicken?  There is a sentence in a recent article in the Worthington version of ThisWeek Worthington, it is at the end of an important article about the rezoning of the Kilbourne Building on the Village Green in Worthington. The ...

Green like lush green... Not like green like ecological.  The warm summer weather in the next eight to ten weeks will change the brown grass we have now into lush green grass... and the trees will sprout leaves... magically. The 2007 Worthington Memorial Day Parade.  This slideshow is actually in Riverlea on High Street not in Worthington... or is the street still Worthington? Thinking about it we were on the front lawn in Riverlea and the parade was in Worthington?   Music alert. Turn the music down on the far right button on the bottom of the slideshow if necessary. It is hard to believe how green it will be in a few months. Someone was looking at this video today... and I am recycling it.     The 2009 Worthington Memorial Day Parade will be on Memorial Day. I can't wait.     More ab...

The Worthington City Council approved new zoning for the Kilbourne Building. The Kilbourne Building is the building facing the northeast quadrant of the Village Green.  The Kilbourne Building  is the building with the star.  The image is from the Franklin County Auditors site. According to the article in the ThisWeek Community Newspapers Worthington edition the building is also known as the 752 Building.  I think of it as the old administrative office for the Worthington City Schools.  I had a client who worked there years ago pre email?  Pre everything being online anyway, so I used to drop things off there to her. The This Week Worthington article by staff writer Candy Brooks says the building has been vacant for 7 years.  I was thinking the administrative offices had moved to E. Wils...

By wee folk I am not talking children. It's beginning to look a lot like St. Patrick's Day in Central Ohio. Some communities more than others.  The Dublin Ohio St. Patrick's Day celebrations are on Saturday March 14,2009. If Irish is an attitude, Dublin does it well Columbus - downtown  Celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Central Ohio  The traditional Columbus celebrations including the St. Patrick's Day Parade and the Irish Family Reunion are on St. Patrick's Day, Tuesday March 17, 2009, of course. Worthington Wee Folk have their own door in Old Worthington. The Leprechaun Entrance shown here is right next to the door for the rest of us at  PK O'Ryans Irish Pub in Worthington    The Leprechaun entrance is at the Irish Pub in Worthington year round.   Compliments of Maureen McCabe - Re...

The Crosswoods area in Columbus is just north of 270 in the Worthington area.  Last Sunday I tweeted (texted from my phone to Twitter): The Quizno's at Crosswoods is gone.. Closed.. 4:23 PM Mar 1st from mobile web Two people from Columbus responded: OHTom@MoInColumbusOH Lots of empty restaurants at Crosswoods these days!4:57 PM Mar 1st from web in reply to MoInColumbusOH  solesearching@MoInColumbusOH I'm surprised that Quiznos lasted as long as it did. That whole area is dying a slow painful death... 5:51 PM Mar 1st from Tweetie in reply to MoInColumbusOH Is Crosswoods dying?  hmmm  I know restaurants open and close there with great regularity... but that's been going on or years.  Who knows maybe the Quiznos has been gone since last summer... Coming soon Or coming back? Chutnys, an Indian restautant in the Crosswoods area of Columbus opened and closed very quickly. I think.   I swear I read in one of the papers that Chutnys opened.  As I recall it said the restaurant was able to come right in because the previous Indian Restaurant in that location, the equipment was still there.   I can not find the article though.  Searching I just find a lot of recipes for different chutnys. The Crosswoods area in Columbus is north of the city of Worthington and south of Polaris.   It's just north of 270... Crosswoods is all hotels and restaurants and a movie theater..  and a lot of  empty space... kind of a tough area to compete, it seems. A sign in the window says Chutnys is coming soon and will have new management.    The signs at the ...

Would you paint your brick fireplace?  Rachel Backus a  home stager in Hudson Ohio recommended painting oak cabinets from the 1970's, 1980's  speaking to the real estate community and other stagers Rachael asked WOOD you tell a homeowner to paint the cabinets? "WOOD you tell a homeowner  to paint brick?"  or  "Wood you tell a homeowner to paint the fireplace?   just doesn't have the same ring to it as Rachel's title, does it? Have you ever painted brick?  Were you happy with the results? This is painted brick... Too bad I don't have a before photo.  This is the brick on fireplace in a Bob Webb patio home at the Sanctuary in the Worthington area. The patio homes are from the late 1980's so it is not like they are ancient.  Or that Bobb Webb built houses with ugly fireplaces. This particu...

The foreclosure on the Worthington Square Mall was in December 2008 I believe.  I visited the mall once at Christmas time, the first time I had gone over since August 2008. The Victoria Secret Store and The Bath and Body Works store were noticeably gone since I visited the mall in late summer. An article in Business First Columbus last Friday said 19 of the 43 mall spots are filled, about 50 percent. .. reading about the Worthington Square Mall a couple of weeks ago in another local publication I remarked that 50 percent seemed high to me, it seemed like about a third of the mall is occupied to me. Of course the locations on the back of the Worthington Square Mall are included in that number, Amano's, China Way....  and walking around inside the mall I did not see those.   The shopping ...

"what to wear at the columbus fish market" was a search that ended up on my ColumbusBestBlog recently but I am going to answer it here. Columbus is casual...  We could NOT get into Columbus Fish Market (Music alert!!!) on Valentines Day this year... either location. We could NOT get into Mortons Columbus on Valentines Day this year... ( I tried to win a Valentines Day dinner...) Not because we were not dressed right.  We just waited too late to get reservations at lots of great restaurants in Central Ohio. We do most years, we ate at Hoggy's at Polaris a couple of years ago. No tie required.   We eat at the Columbus Fish Market quite a bit really.  Usually the one at Crosswoods but for more special occasions the one on Olentangy River Road.  I am not sure why driving about 12 minutes mo...

Winter Wickedness at the Worthinton Holiday Inn runs through tonight but I believe it is sold out already... if you are so inclined. Dean Narciso wrote about "the festival" for the Columbus Dispatch:  Columbus Dispatch:  Winter Wickedness Perversion Fest draws heat I first  saw something about it on the news last night on Channel 10...  I must not have been paying much attention... maybe half asleep?  I thought "Is that Worthington?" When I heard Worthington I tried to tell myself it was at a Holiday Inn in the Crosswoods area (City of Columbus), not the Holiday Inn in Worthington. Channel 10 News: Churches Protest Sexual Festival At Hotel says: "Paper and trash bags covered the doors and windows of the hotel during the event" Wonder how the church groups even knew about the event?  Won...

I rang a bell at a Salvation Army kettle in Worthington on Thursday.  The kettle at the Worthington Kroger is sponsored by Worthington Industries. Thanks to Linda Tacosik in the Worthington Real Living HER office for organizing, scheduling and reminding us.  We worked a one hour slot, two of us ringing bells, dueling bells.  My bell kept falling out of my mittened hand.  You can text in a donation to the Salvation Army in Columbus to 90999.  Text the word -  Kettle.  I did.  It texted me  back to confirm the $5 donation.  My phone company put the donation on my next bill.  I believe it works with all of the cell phone services. According to the Salvation Army's Columbus site "serving those in need in Central Ohio since 1885."  That's a tradition! Speaking of charity... today is the Cha...
