I've spent the last two weeks on tour with the Cleveland Orchestra and have really enjoyed the last few days in Merano, Italy (ritzy spa town) and Lucerne, Switzerland.  Yesterday I took my mom up Mt. Pilatus and we had a fantastic ride on a cog railway up the mountain.  The view of the Alps from up there was truly magnificent and we were lucky to have fantastic weather!   Here are a few pictures from Merano & Mt. Pilatus.

The 2010 Cain Park Artis Festival in Cleveland Height is this weekend.  Stop by and enjoy the works of artists, entertainment and food. Past events have drawn 60,000 visitors. I sold a home last year at 14464 Superior Road right across the street from Cain Park and the owners commented on how wonderful it was having this local treasure -- tennis courts, sledding hill, outdoor theaters, etc., practically right at their doorstep. The Cleveland Heights office of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services smashed the monthly record of unit sales with 103 homes sold in the month of April! That far exceeded the previous record of 86 homes sold in May of 2005. How's real estate these days? Unbelievable!

Many people are probably not aware that the $8000 tax credit for first-time home buyers and the $6500 tax credit for move-up buyers is extended for active members of the military, foreign services, and the intelligence community for one year. After months of driving through the minefield known as Monticello Boulevard, the city will begin a re-paving project on Monday that will last through the end of September, according to the Sun Press.   One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained, so watch for the signs.  Phase One, that part of Monticello between Noble and Taylor, will be re-paved first, since it is the worst section.  Phase Two involves Monticello between Noble  to the city line at Belvoir Blvd.  Phase Three is between Mayfield and Taylor.  According to the Sun Press article funding will come from a combination of sources--  The Ohio Public Works Commission, the City of Cleveland Heights, and the Cuyahoga County Engineer's Office.   It is estimated that the whole project will cost $3.4 million.  As much as...

After a very difficult period in the Cleveland Heights real estate market I see encouraging signs. According to Trendgraphix, which collates and measures MLS data, the following encouraging signs have been seen in the Heights market in the price range of $80,000 or higher. I have excluded less expensive home because these tend to be distressed home that distort the market picture. For the period February 2009-2010:The number of homes for sale declined 8.1%, the sold price per square foot increased 11.7%, the average sold price increased 42%, and the months of inventory (meaning how many months would it take to sell everything on the market at the present rate of sales) dropped 40.9%. The Cleveland Orchestra musicians went on a short strike last Monday that was resolved Tuesday and today we begin our 9-day residency in Miami.  Most of the concerts will take place at the Knight Concert Hall, part of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.  We will also perform at the Hialeah-Miami Lakes High School in Hialeah.  I'm really enjoying the break from the Cleveland weather!  Composers to be performed include Beethoven, Brahms, Verdi, Ades, Strauss, and Bernstein.  If you are going to Miami in the next few days here is a link for tickets http://www.arshtcenter.org/tickets/calendar.aspx.
