All my life, one of my favorite activities has been long walks in the park. My Mom and Dad took us every Sunday winter,spring, summer, and fall and I have really fond memories of those times. When I met my husband I found it was something he enjoyed as well and now we drag treat our daughter to it too! Below are pictures of the park off Riverview Rd. This little creek is where my Dad taught my daughter how to skip stones and though she is 14 and he 85, they still enjoy doing that here. There are picnic tables and benches when you need a rest or a snack!     Here are a couple of pictures of the Oak Grove picnic area. Absorption Rates and Months Housing Supply These two terms are one piece of the puzzle to help real estate agents, appraisers, home sellers and buyers alike make sense out of the real estate market. This is a little-known, but effective tool, if used in proper context, to help a home seller or buyer understand the market conditions for the home they wish to sell or buy. The easiest way to define these two terms is with an example: Absorption Rates (AR)- The rate at which homes are selling (ie. absorbed), over a specific time period, typically 12 months.  This is beneficial in determining supply and demand trends for the local market. I took a hike yesterday with a friend of mine, Glen, in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (see my sledding post here) and at times, in the Brecksville Reservation (see the trail map). Best of all, we could walk from our own homes into the park.  I took my black labrador retriever, and the three of us had a very relaxing two hour hike. While I didn't take my camera, I plan to take photos when we go out again.  We saw two waterfalls, one small, and one about 20' high.  Shale bed creeks, and compressed rock formations that look as if they were pushed up by a south moving from the glacier age, to an abundance of deer, owls and even coyotes all exist.  There are formal hiking trails as well as the ability to wander up and down hills, ravines and valleys with various streams makes for a very ...

As I write this post, I am sitting in the beautiful gymnasium at the Brecksville Rec Center (officially known as the Brecksville Community Center.)  It is a Saturday afternoon and my almost 8-year old son is a big basketball guy.  He has played basketball in various camps and sessions around the area over the last few years, including the Brecksville league which starts in 2 weeks.  There are at least 5-6 different sets of people shooting hoops—from a group of 7-8 year olds (my son included) to older adults, with groups of middle and high school boys thrown in.It is a full gym and everyone is having a great time.  The really cool thing is that everyone knows their space and plays well with others!  I haven’t heard any bad language nor seen any impolite behavior.  It reminds me of when I...

Every year there is an Easter Egg Hunt in our neighborhood, Echo Hills.  Because we have such a wonderful playground area and picnic area, it is easy to gather tons of kids and their families to hunt for Easter eggs.   The way it works is that the hunt is divided by age groups, so the very youngest have their small area, the not too young have their larger area, and the somewhat older are more spread out.  It works just great.  There are lots of refreshments and the adults get to stand around, drink coffee, eat all the doughnuts they want, and catch up on all the happenings over the last 2 months-you know, the cold, snowy months when there is limited interaction because the days are short and the nights are freezing.
