Infocision Stadium- Summa Field The University of Akron entered a new era in Akron football on September 12, 2009 when they hosted Morgan State in their home opener in a new stadium.  The new stadium is an "on-campus" facility and a vast improvement over the historic Rubber Bowl which was located some distance away from campus.  The new "on-campus" stadium ought to attract thousands of university students who live in university dorms and off-campus housing giving the football program an opportunity to increase game attendance. The University of Akron has a long football history dating back over 130 years.  In 1968 the "Zips" played in the Grantland Rice Bowl but had the misfortune of running into a relatively unknown quarterback by the name of Terry Bradshaw.  They lost to Louisiana Tec...

On this Labor Day Weekend remember to fly your American Flag!! Show your patriotism to our work force, business owners hire someone, let's jumpstart the economy one employee at a time..... The country will come back, it may be a slow process, but I have confidence in this great country that we will be better than before. Put aside your political beliefs and just be one nation! God Bless America!

Boldly going where I have never gone before, I am hosting a "tweetup" this evening at 7 p.m. at 746 Hickory St., Akron, OH 44301. Beverages and snacks will be served and we may have a bonfire, weather permitting! Boldly going where you (may) never have gone before, will you join me? What's a "tweetup"? It's a chance to meet and chat in person all those fun people you have been talking to online. Most of my twitter friends are also on facebook, so I invited them...so this might be a "Facebook/tweetup" after all. Why would I go to such a thing? Meet new friends, get to know people better, have a drink, do some networking, have fun, etc. Who will be there? Now that's the question...I wanted to get an exact count, and I can't! This has been shared with a loooong list of people, by retweeti...

Kevin O'Bryans Irish Pub in Firestone Park Ohio is related, literally, to the earlier review I posted of the Ido Bar & Grill in Firestone Park Ohio. You may read that HERE!  This fun place is also conceived, owned and built by Steve and Marcy Baker.    With the success of the Ido Bar and Grill, Steve and Marcy Baker did our neighborhood of Firestone Park another huge favor. They bought and redecorated a very old bar that was in dire need of either being torn down or revived. And revived they did! It is now, in my opinion, the best Irish Pub in Akron Ohio, Kevin O'Bryans. As awesome family people, the Pub is named after two of their sons, Kevin and Bryan. Their daughter Missy is the very capable manager. The menu and more information on Kevin O'Bryan's can be found= here.    While the I...

An Ohio favorite Pat Dailey performed on Sunday at the Upper Deck in Portage Lakes, Ohio! This entertainer is known for his bawdy folklore songs about the Lake Erie Islands, particularly Put-In-Bay! He drinks Guiness throughout his performance and gets a little bawdier as the evening goes on!! Portage Lakes loved him and he gave his all in the stifling humidity and heat! He played for over 2 hours to the beer swilling crowd on the decks and the lawn and even in the boats parked at the docks behind him, who he heckled for not paying to come onto the property. Pat is well known for his song titled Nymphmaniac. No explanation needed. This is an annual event here at the Upper Deck in Portage Lakes, Ohio. The grill was cranking our great food and a fun time was had by all as evidenced by th...

All right, how many of you are old enough to remember the '60's and early '70's? Can you believe it's been 40 years since Woodstock? Those were great times for many of us and some great memories!     In a field near Yasgur's Farm in Bethel, New York on August 15th, 1969 the three day concert known as "Woodstock" began. Remember the song Joni Mitchell wrote and was performed by Crosby, Stills and Nash, not long after? The first notes of music rang out at 5:07pm and continued until mid-morning of August 18th.      Jimi Hendrix was the last to play and he performed "the Star Spangled Banner" like no one before or after. The concert featured 24 bands and more than a half million young people were in attendance. This concert came to symbolize the counter-culture movement of the 60's. I d...

Eagle Auto and Tire in Firestone Park Ohio is one of those necessary business's that become all important when you need them. You know, the car is making funny sounds, the air is not working, the tires are going bump, bump, bump. Isn't this one of those things that go super critical when they happen? I know, for me, nothing grinds to a halt faster than when the car goes nuclear. "Ohhhh Noooo! What am I gonna do now? This is going to cost me a fortune, I'm a Realtor between closings! Life sucks!"    Well, we all know how critical it can be on who to trust with one of our most important possessions. THE CAR! Lucklily for us, we have Eagle Auto and Tire in Firestone Park Ohio. This family owned business has been in Firestone Park forever, it seems. The owners have been great neighbor...

I know, every small town has a fabulous ice cream stand. We have Strickland's Ice Cream in Akron Ohio. People cannot wait for spring and summer to flock to and enjoy Strickland's Ice Cream in Akron Ohio's famous vanilla, chocolate and the flavor of the day. My wife has Strickland's website on her desktop, ready and willing to fly off at a moments notice when her favorite flavors flash on her screen. Luckily, it's only 5 minutes from our Firestone Park home. I just had coconut in a waffle cone, today actually, with my photo excursion above. It was awesome too! Nothing like fresh ice cream to fix what ails you.    Strickland's Frozen Custard was founded in 1936 by Bill and Florence Strickland. During his years as an Akron Pure Milk employee, Bill developed his own rich recipe of ...

The sleepy Portage Lakes wakes up to the swimming geese at sunrise, this morning was particulary beautiful because of the reflection on Long Lake and the geese posing for this photo! It is always a vacationin Portage Lakes, Ohio. There is always something to do here, with our series of  lakes on and off  the "main chain".  Portage Lakes, Ohiohas 3 levels of  lakes and the "main chain" is the highest level,  HowerLake and North Reservoir are lower, and Long Lake is the lowest lake.Because of the different levels of the lakes the early residents, the nativeAmerican Indians had to portage their canoes from level to level,  hensethe name Portage Lakes!!
