Town of Ramapo Residents - Do You Know How Tax Assessments Work and How to Grieve Them?  Property values in Rockland County have been going down, but property taxes in most cases, have been going up.  The tax structure is based on the assessed value of your home and for those that feel that they are being over assessed there is a grievance process via which you can fight your assessment.  The deadline for filing grievances, is the fourth Tuesday in the month of May.  This year that's May 22 and it's quickly approaching.    If you feel you are being taxed unfairly you can check out the Town of Ramapo's grievance process at their on-line site by visiting  www.ramapo.org and checking  under "property owners toolkit".  Here you can compare the town's assessed value of your home with nearby ...
