When I am a passenger in a car I love to have my camera to capture those scenes I miss when I am the driver.  As a passenger you have a different view, you notice things you normally would ignore as a driver, since you are keeping your eyes on the road. This was one such scene, the stoplight at dusk on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie.

Exploring the Hudson Valley with Miss Feng Shui-Hot Air Balloon Festival This Sunday was the Hudson river Balloon Festival near Poughkeepsie NY.  The Balloons took off from Marist college. it was some seen from the kayak point of view. Some kayaks got so close the balloons would gently float arms length over head. It was fun to wacth and just observe.  At some points, you would see a balloon land in the Hudson river and an abundance of kayaks would paddle frivolously in its direction. This was worth the 2am wake up call to launch by 5am.  Dutchess county Balloon festival

This is a photo from 2007 in my Flickr account, it was hidden among the thousands of photos I am yet to share. The photo taken from the campus of Marist College in Poughkeepsie NY shows an old railroad bridge which has since been converted into The Walkway Over the Hudson, a big tourist draw to the area. The view is spectacular especially during the Fall Foliage.

City of Poughkeepsie home sale for the first two quarters of 2013 In the City of Poughkeepsie during the first two quarters 50 single family detached homes sold.  The properties sold included properties which were considered uninhabitable and sold as is for cash since financing would be almost impossible.  There were also short sales and bank owned properties.   How did the City of Poughkeepsie first quarter home sale compare to the second quarter? In the first quarter 19 single family detached homes sold, however there was a big increase in the second quarter when 31 homes sold. The homes sold in the first quarter ranged in price from $34,000-$290,000.  In the second quarter the range was 15,000 - 345,000 When you look at the average sale price the second quarter came in lower than the...

Walkway over the Hudson underbelly from Route 9 The Walkway Over the Hudson is a population destination for many.  The old rail road bridge was converted to a pedestrian park almost  four years ago, and since then visitors came from near and far to walk high above the Hudson River. I can understand the fascination with this because the walkway offers  magnificent views of the river. It stands at 212 feet high and is 1.28 miles long; and stretches from Poughkeepsie  to Highland in Ulster County.  This pedestrian park is operated by the NYS Park System. Did you know it is the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world?               Walkway over the Hudson underbelly What can you do atop the Walkway Over the Hudson? There are so many activities you can engage in.  I personally would ...

What happens when the parking lot is a downhill? This was the situation I found myself in recently.  Attending an early morning meeting at Marist College this was unexpected, so I huffed and puffed my way uphill. Marist College has a lovely campus with spectacular views of the  Hudson River, I am sure such  scenes enhances creativity.

Poughkeepsie Metro-North Hudson Line The Poughkeepsie train station is the most northern Metro-North Hudson Line station; or you could say the end of the line in Dutchess County. It is an important transportation hub in the Mid-Hudson Valley region. The Hudson line offers scenic views of the Hudson River and Mountains. History of Poughkeepsie Station The present station was opened for business in 1918. It was modeled in some ways after Grand Central Station and is listed on the Registry of Historic Places.             Who uses the Poughkeepsie Stations Since there are stations to the south of Poughkeepsie, and to the east (the Harlem Valley Line), this station is used by residents of Poughkeepsie ,and those living to the north, who might find the Amtrak service in Rhinebeck too expensiv...

Many... hmmm some... people believe according to the Mayan Calendar December 21st will be the end of the world. Here's my belief, after forecasting 5,125 years into the future, the Mayan in charge of creating the calendar either past away of extreme bordom or very old age. Perhaps he just quit! Either way, just in case the world doesn't come to an end, here are a few ideas to keep the family busy before the holidays:   #3 - Kevin McCurdy's Holiday Spirit Festival: Great one of a kind, family holiday event. Celebrating its 8th anniversary. >Relive the joy of Christmas past during Locust Grove’s Decorated Holiday Tours.  #1 - My favorite, drive through the many neighborhoods of Poughkeepsie and look at all the Christmas Lights. Best part... it's Free!

- Hudson Pointe is a luxury waterfront townhouse community in Poughkeepsie NY with stunning views of the Catskill Mountains, Hudson River and magnificent sunsets.    These townhouses are located between Route 9 and the Hudson River.  Sitting high on a bluff Hudson Pointe enjoys a front row view of the Hudson River and the Mid-Hudson Bridge.  It is a great location since you are within walking distance to the  PoughKeepsie Metro-North train station, Vassar Hospital and Shadows on the Hudson the waterfront restaurant, all visible from the complex.  There is also a waterfront park to be developed just below the townhouses.   The Developer Ginsburg Development Companies (GDC) is known for building many communities in the Hudson Valley, several with waterfront views of the Hudson River.  Som...

Selling your Poughkeepsie home in a today's market With a mild winter it is a good time to list your Poughkeepsie home.  Sellers we are still dealing with a buyer's market. What is a buyers market? this typically occurs when there is high inventory and it takes more than a 8 plus months to clear. Seller I am going to be blunt, to get your home sold you will have to do much more than when sellers were in the driver's seat. Because of limited funds you might not want to fix certain problems before listing; that would be a mistake. It is my view, fixing problems prior to listing will result in a higher return. Pay attention to Poughkeepsie market data this does give you a feel for what is happening in the market. In this market you really need the assistance of a real estate agent. And whe...

Maple Leaf   I was at a home inspection Saturday evening in Poughkeepsie NY and the homeowner was outside raking.  I went outside to ask a question and suddenly noticed how beautiful the leaves were.  The Maple leaves were the largest I have seen so I picked up a few.  In the frame above is a Maple Leaf I gathered. If you read my blog you know that I find delight in the small things.  Yes, even the leaves are wonderfully made and this Maple Leaf is no exception. copyright © by Jennifer Fivelsdal, all rights reserved-Maple Leaf|Speechless Sunday

Janet's Jerk Stop is the place to go for Jamaica food in Poughkeepsie.   I have known Janet for years I first met her at the culinary at an event we both participated in. A few years ago she had to relocate from s Academy Street and I did not see her as much. This Tuesday I was at a closing on Mill Street and I asked the attorney's for direction to the closest Jamaican restaurant and they mentioned Janet's on Academy Street, I thought they must have been talking about a few years ago but no! Janet had return 3 weeks ago at a location across from the old location. I knew my clients would love the Janet treatment so off we went.  She was delighted to see us and even though what we wanted was not on the day's menu she said "No Problem" and set about cooking us Ackee and Salt fish.  Okay if...
