The Iron Horse Grill in Pleasantville NY is one of our family's favorite restaurants.  It's housed in the historic 1904 former Pleasantville Train Station building.  The 2011 Zagat Survey has described the food as "extraordinary to perfection". They call it a "class act" that "stands out" for it's "superb seasonal cuisine", "dedicated staff" and "quaint setting..  It's an intimate setting and only seats 60 (so make your reservations...it's well worth it).   We have been to the Iron Horse Grill the last 2 years in a row for my dad's birthday.  He goes there often...and they all know his name. My dad even ran into someone he knew, so it made the evening extra nice. Phil McGrath is the owner and chef and gives the restaurant a real personal touch.  He even recognzes my dad and knows what k...

I have often said that nearby Pleasantville is aptly named. It borders Briarcliff Manor to the east and is idyllic: a picturesque, charming little village on the Harlem line of Metro North with shops, eateries, and culture. The latest feather in the village's cap is that GQ magazine voted it the second best smelling city in the world.  Good for them. I'm no expert on aroma but I can tell you that living in Pleasantville would never stink. My first job ever, which paid for my junior prom in 1984, was washing dishes at Pace University. When I took a year sabbatical from life in 2000 before I got married I tended bar at Mediterraneo. As a matter of fact, I proposed to Ann over a nice meal from Mediterraneo, but it was takeout. They still get credit. I meet every other Friday at Jean Jacque...

It's a great time to buy flooring for your home in Westchester County...Let me count the ways. Thankfully, we have been super busy, and many customers have been coming out of the woodworks lately.  We've gotten many calls from customers from 1- 2 yrs ago and yes, they are finally ready to buy their floors. It's very exciting. Some of them have needed time to save up the money; others have recently refinanced and now have some extra money on hand to do the much needed and desired improvements to their homes. It's a wonderful time to improve your Westchester Home. First, prices are incredibly reasonable right now.  Because the demand has been a bit more limited these last few years and because homeowners are getting multiple bids, most prices are competitive in the market place - both on ...

Some of you may recall a post I wrote last month I went to the chiropractor today - unplanned.  In this, I explained how it seemed like fate with this customer...that through a seires of accidents, we were meant to help each other.  Well, here is the outcome. 1.  We are going to redo her floors - about 1,000 sf 2.  I'm going to become a client of hers...her adjustment from last time has already improved my health.  And, my insurance will cover most of it...so in about 2 weeks I'll be seeing her again. 3.  She is going to put my cards out in her office (along w/ coupons) for her clients to see 4.  She is going to attend my BNI as it might help her grow her business. 5.  I'm going to blog about her soon...and hoping to get some good ranking for her for google. $568,000 buys a nice pre-war colonial with a big yard. This particular home dates to 1919 and has 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a formal dining room, and both a rear and side porch. The character of the period has been preserved very well over the decades.  Inside it has beautiful hardwoods, lots of period woodwork and crown molding, plenty of windows (bay windows in both the living and dining room) and a great fireplace mantle in the living room.  Overall it is about 2000 square feet and has a yard of over half an acre. We just had a client close on it a few days ago, and we wish Jim every happiness in his new home. Since Pleasantville is close, we are also happy to welcome a new neighbor.  If you'd like to find a nice home like this in Pleasantville or any other town in Westchester, get y...

One of my favorite places to go in Pleasantville  is Prospero Winery. Located a short walk from the Pleasantville stop on Metro-North at 134 Marble Avenue, Prospero is a small family owned winery, store and tasting room.  After having been to the North Fork of Long Island's wine country and the famed Napa Valley, Prospero is still one of my favorite tasting rooms. The staff is always friendly and knowledgable. In 1973, the Prospero family from L'Aquila, Italy opened a fruit and vegetable stand in Pleasantville and began selling fruit, vegetables and California wine grapes. The grapes were a big hit among home wine makers and they began selling home wine making equipment. In 1999 a winery and tasting room was opened on the original site of the fruit and vegetable stand. The tasting room...
