Tonight, I sang with the choir at the Tenebrae service at St. Dominic Church in Oyster Bay.  What is a Tenebrae Service?  It is a Service of the Shadows.  Tenebrae is a latin word for shadow.  It is the most moving service of the Holy Week.  The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to recreate the passion story. The story is left unfinished because it is not over till Easter Day. The first time I joined the choir and we sang at the Tenebrae service, I found it so emotional.  It is my favorite service.  It is also a very short service.  It starts with seven candles on the altar.  The first reader reads the assigned reading  which is "The Betrayal", then extinguishes the candle on the extreme right of the candelabra.  At the same time, the lights on one section of the church are turned of...

Oyster Bay is a small picturesque town on a peninsula on the North Shore of Long Island with Victorian homes from bygone era on a tree-lined street.  Oyster Bay has a lot to offer the residents and visitors alike.  Besides the beautiful beaches, Oyster Bay has magnificent parks, arboretum, and museums.  It is one of the most attractive places to live, work and play in Long Island, New York. Oyster Bay is rich in culture and history.  The town of Oyster Bay is Teddy Roosevelt town.  Everywhere you look, there is a footprint of Teddy Roosevelt.  There is a park called Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and the elementary school is named Roosevelt Elementary School.  Teddy Roosevelt had his summer white house here at Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay Cove from 1902 to 1908.  He worshiped at Chri...

Oyster Bay Long Island New York--No More Feng Shui? There is always so much to see and do in the lovely town of Oyster Bay Long Island and I spend a great deal of time there.  I often write about it and show pictures of my favorite places. That ended today.  Despite the cold temperatures, Laura and I decided to stop for a breath of fresh air on our way back from a Feng Shui Consultation.  One of our favorite places is The Planting Fields, a historic site in Oyster Bay New York. In New York if you want to visit many places, you must pay an Entrance Fee.  Seems fair and we're used to them rising every year.  If you want to visit Jones Beach in Wantagh Long Island, you pay a fee.  Most parks are like that as well and we both purchase passes each year so we don't have to pay every time we'd...

A Feng Shui Consultant in Oyster Bay Long Island Sometimes I believe Long Island has Feng Shuied itself.  Just a tiny glimpse of the wonderful Spring that we've all been waiting for came on a day that was predicted to break a record and hit 60 degrees.  The weather men were off a bit.  Long Island hit 70! I don't believe ANYONE stayed home.  Laura and I decided to head up North to the lovely town of Oyster Bay.  It was time to reconnect with Nature, spend time OUTSIDE after a very long winter.  As you can see in the photos, the snow hadn't even melted yet after a whopping 14" had hit our area. If you wander just beyond Oyster Bay, you will end up in a beautiful place called Oyster Bay Cove.  We are doing a Feng Shui Consultation in Oyster Bay next week...and doubt we'll have the weather...

Oyster Bay is a quaint little town loaded with history where residents enjoy a tree lined residential streets, historic landmarks and beautiful waterfront area. The downtown area called the Hamlet has small shops, restaurants, hair salons, hardware stores, few banks, houses of worship of different denominations, museums and within walking distance to the Long Island Railroad station, the town park and the beach.  If you love the water, there is the Waterfront Center where you can stroll and enjoy the new landscaping, park, a gazebo, boardwalk  and walkways with benches along the way where you can just sit and relax and watch the boats go by. The town park has tennis courts, beach area, and picnic areas for everyone to enjoy.  A new railroad museum just opened this week near the Post O...

At this time of the year, we are all getting tired of winter and starting to think of spring.  It is the best time to contemplate on what roses to plant and where to get them.  I always buy my roses from mail order suppliers.  They have more varieties to choose from.  I'm putting a list below of mail order suppliers and they are all excellent sources.  For the benefit of novice rose gardeners who for the most part believe that only Jackson & Perkins sells good roses, there are other mail order suppliers that's are as excellent if not better.  Ashdown roses, P.O.     As we celebrate Valentine's Day, legend has it that Cupid gave red rose to Harpocrates, the god of silence to bribe him to secrecy over the dalliances of Venus and so the red rose become the symbol of discretion, love, passion and romance.  Roses were henceforth painted on the ceilings of banquet halls to remind all gathered there that whatever was said there, should not be repeated which became the expression sub rosa (under the rose).  Another legend says that while Aphrodite was running to the dying Adonis, she was scratched by a rose bush and her blood falling on the roses turn it into red.  Other account says that Adonis turned his blood into red roses. Whatever legend strikes your fancy, there is nothing in our garden at this time of the year but the florist and even the super...
