I now live in Charleston, South Carolina and my friends in New York are calling me how am I faring with Irene.  I told them I’m fine.  Luckily we missed the whole thing.  We have some rain for maybe 10 minutes and some wind strong enough but not too strong to make you panic.  When hurricane strikes, high wind can cause downed power lines which disrupt communication for days.  Supplies may take several days to come by because road can be impassable.  So preparations are very important.  For New Yorkers, you don’t have much time so get going.  Before The Hurricane - Assemble a Disaster Kit which includes the following:   Important family documents kept in a waterproof portable condition - Home Ownerhip Deeds, Insurance policies, insurance cards, wills, tax returns, birth and marriage ce...

When buying a home, you have a choice:  your agent can work for the Seller or your agent can work for you.  A buyer's agent is an agent who is engaged by a buyer to represent the buyer's best interests, not the seller's.  A buyer's agent works exclusively on behalf of the buyer-client in any given real estate transaction.  Only a buyer's agent can represent and work 100% for the interest of the buyer and yet most buyers refuse to sign a buyer's agent agreement.  Being represented by a buyer's agent won't cost you more in commission fees and it could actually save you time, money and aggravation.  A buyer-client usually pays no more for the services of a buyer-agent than he/she would if using a traditional real estate agent.  Typically a buyer's agent receives compensation from the s...

A 16 oz. bottle of water can cost as much as $1.50 whereas a 16 oz. glass of tap water can cost less than 1/10 of 1 cent.  Tap water undergoes more vigorous testing than bottled water.  Tap water is monitored in accordance with the quality standards of the United States Environmental Protection Agency.  Bottled water is regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration. Who is John Barry?  Have you seen any of the James Bond movies?  Few days ago, on Jan. 31 at 8:23 PM to be exact, I got an email from the Executive Director of Oyster Bay Historical Society of which I was the Past Treasurer and currently serving on its Board.  The email was addressed to OBHS Staff and Trustees.  The email stated that Composer John Barry of Centre Island, NY died Sunday.   I kept wondering what had John Barry got to do with the Oyster Bay Historical Society.  I never knew the guy and I don't remember him being a part of the Oyster Bay Historical Society.  Then the next day, the New York Times ran a two-column obituary of John Barry. Apparently he was very famous.  I never knew it.  Three local papers carried the big news.  Then today, my husband said there was an old int...
