Zoning rules will change on side streets  The Department of City Planning on Monday kicked off the months-long process to change zoning rules in the Garment District. The agency certified a text amendment that will lift a 1987 zoning restriction in certain parts of the neighborhood. This marks the first step in the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP), which will take several months and culminate in a vote by the City Council.Earlier this month, the city revealed revised plans to rezone the district after temporarily tabling a previous proposal. The latest plan allows owners of buildings on certain side streets in the district to convert their spaces to office use without having to preserve manufacturing space, as was required under the 1987 zoning rule. Under current zoning, owner...

Tonight NYC weather is mild in the 70s with cool breeze after all the thunderstorm weather report and somewhat cloudy day. We went out for a walk to enjoy the breeze and were able to captured the night scene of Empire State building.  It does not matter how many times we have seen this iconic building, we always love it when we get a glimpse of it between all the sky scrappers.

Few days ago, a friend and I had decided to visit a photo exhibition about a married couple that were arrested and sentenced to one year in jail for violating the state's Racial Integrity Act 1958 in Virginia. This is all simply because they are not the same race. The husband, Richard Loving, was a white man ; the wife, Mildred Jeter, was African American and Native American. During the trial, the Virginia judge suspended the Lovings' sentence for a period of 25 years on the condition that they leave the State and not return to Virginia together for 25 years. Because of this, they moved away from their family and friends in Virginia, together with their children to Washington DC where interracial marriage was legal. While they were in Washington DC, they had gain a help of an attorney t...

New York Knicks welcomes Jeremy Lin - Taiwanese American descent basketball player from California. Even though it is Superbowl Sunday, I could not resist to write a blog post about a New York Knicks basketball player that is Taiwanese American descent as myself. In end of 2011, Jeremy Lin joined New York Knicks from San Francisco Golden State Warriors, making him the fourth ASIAN AMERICAN and FIRST American born Taiwanese-Chinese basketball player to join NBA.
